WSCI is the 2026 World Star Challengers Invitational, an international Tier 2 League of Legends tournament created through a collaboration between Riot Games and TJ Sports. It brings together 16 teams for a best-of-one group stage, followed by a best-of-five single-elimination playoff.
What WSCI is
The full name is the 2026 World Star Challengers Invitational. Riot Games describes the event as a global stage for Tier 2 League of Legends teams and a pilot for international Tier 2 competition. Riot says the event is intended to create cross-regional competition and support development in the Tier 2 pipeline; those are the stated goals, not measured outcomes. The official LoL Esports announcement was published September 3, 2026.

How the tournament format works
Group stage: September 20–25, 2026
The 16 teams are split into four groups of four. Each group plays a double round-robin, so every pair of teams meets twice. All group-stage matches are best-of-one: a team needs one game win to take a match. The schedule is 48 matches across six match days, with eight matches each day.
Advancement to playoffs
The top two teams in each group advance. That leaves eight teams in the championship bracket. The announcement does not provide group-stage tiebreaker rules, so it does not establish how a tie in group standings is resolved.

Playoffs: September 27–October 2, 2026
The eight-team bracket is single-elimination: a team that loses a series is out. The bracket has four quarterfinals, two semifinals and one final, for seven series total. Every playoff series is best-of-five, meaning the first team to win three games takes the series. Riot schedules the final for October 2, 2026.
