If you want better noise cancelling and more comfortable long listening than the Marshall Major V, start with the Sony WH-CH720N: What Hi-Fi? describes it as comfortable and effective at reducing commute noise, at an affordable level. For stronger cancellation, compare the Sony WH-1000XM6 and Bose QuietComfort Ultra Headphones (2nd Gen). If you want to keep Marshall’s on-ear design, consider the Milton ANC. Fit is personal, so try a pair or check the return policy if you can.

Which Marshall Major V alternative should you choose?

Model Best suited to What reviews report Trade-offs
Sony WH-CH720N Everyday ANC on a tighter budget What Hi-Fi? found it surprisingly comfortable and effective at damping commute noise. Its 2026 guide lists 192 g and 35 hours of battery life with ANC on. ANC is less effective than the pricier Sony and Bose options below. It does not fold and comes without a carry case.
Sony WH-1000XM6 Stronger premium ANC What Hi-Fi? rates its noise cancellation above the WH-CH720N; Tom’s Guide also calls it an excellent noise-cancelling headphone. What Hi-Fi?’s 2026 guide lists 254 g and 30 hours with ANC on. It sits in the premium tier. Check fit and current local price before choosing.
Bose QuietComfort Ultra Headphones (2nd Gen) Top-tier ANC shortlist What Hi-Fi? reports stronger ANC than the WH-CH720N, and Tom’s Guide names it its top current ANC pick. What Hi-Fi?’s 2026 guide lists 250 g and 30 hours with ANC on. Premium tier; comfort varies by wearer, and rankings can change.
Marshall Milton ANC Keeping an on-ear Marshall design TechRadar’s 2026 review describes its plush cups and low clamp as comfortable for extended listening. It has adaptive ANC, weighs 200 g, and is listed at 50 hours with ANC on. The comfort assessment is subjective, not a guarantee of fit for every head or ear.
JBL Tune 770NC A lower-cost model to compare RTINGS notes softer padding and longer battery life than the WH-CH720N. RTINGS says its ear cups are small and may be uncomfortable for extended wear; its comparison also reports weaker isolation than the Sony.
JBL Live 770NC A JBL option with better fit than the Tune 770NC RTINGS reports that it fits better than the Tune 770NC and has more effective noise isolation. The reviewed sources do not establish a current price or universal comfort ranking.
Anker Soundcore Space One Feature and battery comparisons RTINGS reports longer continuous battery life, comparable noise isolation, and more EQ options than the WH-CH720N. RTINGS says the Sony is slightly lighter and has a much better microphone.
Sennheiser ACCENTUM Wireless A mid-range option with different wired-use trade-offs RTINGS reports better battery life, slightly better build, aptX HD, and better noise isolation than the WH-CH720N. It lacks a standard headphone jack; RTINGS says the Sony is lighter and has the better microphone.

Why the WH-CH720N is the value-led pick

The Major V is an on-ear headphone, while the WH-CH720N is an over-ear alternative. That change in fit may matter as much as the ANC: over-ear cups sit around the ears rather than pressing directly on them. What Hi-Fi? describes the Sony as surprisingly comfortable and says it reliably dampens background noise during commutes. Its cancellation is not as effective as that of the premium XM6 and Bose models, but it offers a practical balance for everyday travel.

What Hi-Fi?’s 2026 guide lists the WH-CH720N at 192 g, with 35 hours of battery life when ANC is on and 50 hours when it is off. Those are specifications reported in that guide, not independent measurements. The practical compromises are that the headphones do not fold and are supplied without a carry case.

When stronger ANC is worth the premium

Sony WH-1000XM6

Choose the WH-1000XM6 if cancellation is a higher priority than keeping the price down. What Hi-Fi? reports more effective ANC than the WH-CH720N, and Tom’s Guide describes it as an excellent noise-cancelling headphone. What Hi-Fi?’s 2026 guide lists 30 hours with ANC on and 40 hours with ANC off. Compare the fit and current price where you live; the source coverage places it in the premium tier.

Bose QuietComfort Ultra Headphones (2nd Gen)

The Bose is another premium choice when maximum noise reduction is the priority. What Hi-Fi? says its ANC is more effective than the WH-CH720N, while Tom’s Guide ranks it as its top current ANC option. What Hi-Fi?’s 2026 guide lists 30 hours with ANC on and 45 hours with ANC off. The ranking reflects the publications’ evaluations, not a promise that the Bose will feel best on every wearer.

If you want to stay with Marshall’s on-ear format

The Marshall Milton ANC keeps the on-ear approach while adding adaptive noise cancellation. TechRadar’s 2026 review describes its cups as plush and its clamp as low, and considers it comfortable for extended listening. The same review lists a weight of 200 g, 50 hours of battery with ANC on, and 80 hours with ANC off. These are review-reported specifications and a reviewer’s comfort assessment; neither establishes a universal fit. Because it remains on-ear, it may not solve pressure on the ears for people who want to move away from that style.

Alternatives where fit or extra features matter

JBL Tune 770NC and Live 770NC

The Tune 770NC may appeal if you want a lower-cost comparison and softer padding, but its small cups are a meaningful caution for larger ears or long sessions. RTINGS reports that the WH-CH720N fits more people and has better overall noise isolation in its direct comparison. If considering JBL, RTINGS says the Live 770NC fits better than the Tune and offers more effective isolation; the reviewed coverage does not establish how either compares on current local price.

Anker Soundcore Space One

The Space One is worth comparing if longer continuous battery life and EQ options matter to you. RTINGS reports comparable noise isolation to the WH-CH720N and more EQ choices, but says the Sony is slightly lighter and has a much better microphone. Your choice depends on whether customization and battery or weight and call quality matter more.

Sennheiser ACCENTUM Wireless

RTINGS reports that the ACCENTUM Wireless has better battery life, slightly better build, aptX HD support, and better noise isolation than the WH-CH720N. The key connectivity trade-off is that it lacks a standard headphone jack. RTINGS also says the Sony is lighter and has the better microphone.

How to judge comfort and ANC before buying

  • Check the wearing style and cup space. The Major V is on-ear; the WH-CH720N and premium Sony and Bose alternatives are over-ear. Cup size and ear clearance can determine whether a headphone remains comfortable after an hour.
  • Consider weight and clamp pressure. Lighter headphones may be preferable for long sessions, but weight alone does not predict comfort. Head shape, glasses, ear size, and clamp force all affect fit.
  • Compare battery figures with ANC on. The listed endurance changes when ANC is disabled, so use the ANC-on figure if you expect to use cancellation most of the time.
  • Check how you listen and travel. The WH-CH720N does not fold and has no case; the ACCENTUM Wireless lacks a standard headphone jack. These details can matter more than a small difference in cancellation.
  • Check current local pricing and availability. Prices and lineups change, and the reviewed coverage does not establish a consistent current price comparison.
  • Try before committing when possible. If ear pressure or clamp sensitivity is a concern, test the fit or buy from a retailer with a clear return policy. The reviews cited here do not establish controlled fit results across all head and ear shapes.
