The iPhone 12 Pro Max is Apple’s large-screen Pro smartphone from the iPhone 12 generation, introduced in 2020. It has a 6.7-inch OLED display, an A14 Bionic chip, 5G, and three 12-megapixel rear cameras plus a LiDAR Scanner. It is the larger counterpart to the 6.1-inch iPhone 12 Pro.
What “Pro Max” means
Within Apple’s 2020 iPhone 12 lineup, “Pro Max” identifies the larger of the two Pro models. Its screen is 6.7 inches diagonally, compared with 6.1 inches on the iPhone 12 Pro. The name describes the model’s place in that generation; it does not indicate a separate phone family.

How to identify an iPhone 12 Pro Max
Check the model number in the iPhone’s settings or its product documentation, then match it to Apple’s regional list. The model numbers are A2342 for the United States, A2410 for Canada and Japan, A2412 for mainland China, Hong Kong and Macao, and A2411 for other countries and regions.

Size, display and design
The phone measures 160.8 mm tall, 78.1 mm wide and 7.4 mm deep, and weighs 228 g. Its display is a Super Retina XDR OLED panel with a resolution of 2778 × 1284 pixels at 458 pixels per inch. Apple describes it as a 6.7-inch display; the standard rectangular measurement is 6.68 inches, while the actual viewable area is smaller because of rounded corners.
Apple lists typical maximum brightness at 800 nits and HDR maximum brightness at 1,200 nits. The construction includes a Ceramic Shield front, textured matte glass back and stainless-steel design.

Camera system and other generation features
The rear camera system has three 12MP cameras: Ultra Wide, Wide and Telephoto. Apple’s model-specific specifications list 2.5× optical zoom in, 2× optical zoom out, a 5× optical zoom range and up to 12× digital zoom. It also includes a LiDAR Scanner. Listed imaging features include Night mode, Deep Fusion, Smart HDR 3 and Apple ProRAW.
The iPhone 12 Pro Max uses Apple’s A14 Bionic chip and supports 5G, MagSafe and wireless charging. Exact cellular-band support depends on the regional model. Apple’s launch announcement, dated October 13, 2020, introduced these as features of the iPhone 12 Pro generation; launch-era promotional claims should not be read as present-day performance comparisons.

The models share the 2020 Pro generation and its A14 platform, Ceramic Shield design language, LiDAR context and MagSafe support. The most visible difference is size; the Pro Max also has a distinct telephoto implementation.
