What Microsoft Teams Rooms does

How Teams Rooms licenses work
Teams Rooms Basic and Teams Rooms Pro are licenses for room systems, not licenses for an individual’s personal computer. Microsoft defines a shared meeting device as a device in a shared location and requires an appropriate Teams Rooms license.
| License | What it covers | Room-system limit |
|---|---|---|
| Teams Rooms Basic | Core meeting and basic management capabilities | Up to 25 room systems per organization under Microsoft’s current licensing documentation (accessed 2026); additional systems need Pro. |
| Teams Rooms Pro | Enhanced in-room meeting experiences and advanced management features, including device management and analytics | Not stated in the cited licensing material. |
Microsoft’s commercial page describes Basic as available at no charge with a certified Teams device, subject to the 25-room limit. Confirm current entitlements and terms in Microsoft’s licensing documentation before assigning licenses, since they can change.

What Microsoft certification establishes
Microsoft’s certification program sets hardware design and performance requirements across the Teams experience, including audio, video, user interface, security, and accessibility. Certification does not establish support for every feature or cloud environment, so verify the specific deployment and feature requirements separately. Microsoft’s certified-device and peripheral listing changes; check the current status of a model before specifying it.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesHow to think about a Teams Rooms system
When evaluating a room setup, consider its layout and size, Windows or Android platform, console and peripherals, the meeting and sharing features required, and the organization’s management and security needs. Then verify that the exact hardware is certified and that the room has the appropriate license. Basic is positioned for core meeting needs; Pro adds enhanced room experiences and advanced management.
