Meta’s Muse is a personal AI agent; Muse Spark is the model that powers it. In Meta’s description, Spark supplies reasoning and multimodal capabilities, while Muse uses those capabilities to plan tasks, work with connected services and, when permitted, carry out actions. The names also appear in Meta’s media-generation work, so they do not always refer to this agent-and-model pairing.
What are Meta Muse and Muse Spark?
Meta introduced Muse Spark on April 8, 2026, as the first model in a new series developed by Meta Superintelligence Labs. The company described Spark as a small, fast model for complex reasoning and multimodal tasks, and said it had rebuilt its AI stack over the preceding nine months. On September 8, 2026, Meta introduced Muse as a personal AI agent powered by Muse Spark. A useful distinction is that Spark is the model, while Muse is the agent experience that can make plans, use tools and services, and continue work under the user’s permissions. Meta has also used Muse as a family name for media-generation models, including Muse Image and Muse Video; those are distinct from the personal agent discussed here.
How does Muse work?
The following is Meta’s account of the product, rather than an independently verified description of its internals.

- You give it a goal. Meta says users can ask Muse to do something in the Muse app or WhatsApp. For longer requests, it can turn the goal into a personalized plan.
- It works in a dedicated cloud environment. Meta says Muse runs in a virtual machine called Muse Secure VM, which houses the agent and a person’s data and has its own browser. The agent can interact with connected apps and services.
- Spark supplies model capabilities. Meta describes Spark as supporting multimodal reasoning and tool use. Its Spark 1.1 release also describes computer use, long workflows and coordination of parallel subagents. In that arrangement, a main agent can delegate parts of a task to other agents.
- Muse may keep working after you leave. Meta says the agent can continue a task when the user closes the app and return when something changes or it needs approval. The company gives sending email and making purchases as examples of actions that require approval.
Meta’s public materials do not establish Spark’s full architecture or training recipe, nor do they provide independent performance results or independent verification of Muse’s privacy claims.

Meta says Muse can help with tasks such as sending email, booking travel, filling in forms, coordinating plans and negotiating on a user’s behalf. It says the agent can remember information a person has shared to personalize suggestions and work across connected services. These are company-described capabilities; availability and functionality can differ by feature, app and market.

Model capabilities and the 1.3 version
Meta described Muse Spark 1.1 as a multimodal reasoning model for agentic tasks, with improvements in tool use, computer use, coding and multimodal understanding. Meta said that release could actively manage a context window of one million tokens. That figure is specific to Meta’s Spark 1.1 description and has not been independently validated in the sources cited here.

Meta’s developer documentation identifies the API model as muse-spark-1.3 and documents video input, with text returned from video analysis. The same documentation warns that audio understanding is not fully supported in Spark 1.3 and that responses to requests containing audio may be degraded. This is a version-specific developer limitation, not a statement about every Meta AI product or feature.

How is the Muse agent different from the Spark model or AI glasses?
These are related product layers, not simply competing versions. The agent is the consumer-facing experience; Spark is the model, which developers can access through an API; and supported Meta AI glasses can provide an optional hardware surface.

The glasses add a hands-free, camera-equipped way to use Meta AI, but they are not required for Muse app or web access. Meta’s materials do not establish that one access method performs better than another in independent, like-for-like testing.

Where is Muse available, and does it cost anything?
In its September 8, 2026 announcement, Meta said the Muse agent was rolling out in the United States on iOS, Android and muse.ai, with AI glasses described as coming soon. Meta said Muse would be free for most needs and that subscriptions would be available for users who want to do more; that announcement did not specify subscription prices or feature limits.

What does Meta say about privacy and safety?
Meta says users choose which apps to connect and what access Muse receives. The company also says a separate Sentinel agent controls internet access and can ask permission; Muse requests approval before sensitive actions, provides an audit trail, and lets users disconnect services or ask it to forget remembered information. Meta says users can opt out of having interactions used to train Meta AI models, and that Muse conversations and virtual-machine data are not shared with its ad systems.
These are Meta’s descriptions of safeguards, not independently confirmed guarantees. Meta also described a future Muse Confidential VM that would encrypt the entire virtual machine, including data and conversations, with a key held only by the user. In the September 2026 announcement, this was a planned feature, not one Meta said was generally available.
