Visitors can discover places to hang out and play; creators can build and publish their own experiences. Since Meta’s 2026 shift to a mobile-first strategy, it is no longer a current Quest VR destination: Meta said Quest access would end after June 15, 2026.
What is Meta Horizon Worlds?
Horizon Worlds combines a social space with user-created interactive experiences. Meta categorizes it as both “World creation” and “Hangout” in its store listing. In practical terms, you can visit worlds made by others, or use creator tools to build worlds for other people to explore.

It is therefore more than a single game or virtual room: the worlds and activities vary according to what creators make. Meta’s listing also notes user interaction and in-app purchases.
Can you still use Horizon Worlds in VR?
No. Meta’s transition notice said that Horizon Worlds would no longer be available in VR after June 15, 2026, and that the Quest app would be removed. The company said Worlds would instead be available through the Meta Horizon mobile app. Meta had separately announced that Worlds and Events would leave the Quest store by March 31, 2026; favorite worlds could remain accessible in VR until June 15. These dates are now past.

Meta’s Quest store page may still display a Worlds listing, but that listing is not evidence that the VR service remains available. Meta’s dated transition notice specified the end of Quest access. Its separate Quest update also said Horizon Central, Events Arena, Kaiju, and Bobber Bay would no longer be available in VR.
How do people create a Horizon World?
Meta’s creator support documentation describes a desktop editor operated with a keyboard and mouse, TypeScript scripting for interactive behavior and animation, and guidance for publishing worlds on mobile and web.

- For visitors: You do not need to build a world or use the desktop editor to explore worlds.
- For creators: The editor and scripting tools are for making experiences; publishing guidance covers mobile and web distribution.
What happened to Horizon Worlds’ creator programs?
Meta’s 2025 announcement described a $50 million Meta Horizon Creator Fund supporting mobile and mixed-reality creators in eligible countries, as well as a $1 million mobile-focused creator competition for 2025. The competition announcement listed awards of $100,000 for first place in each genre category, $30,000 for second place, and $25,000 for third place. Meta also reported that nearly a quarter of the competition’s winners were first-time world creators.

What the definition does not tell you
Meta’s reviewed official materials do not establish an independently audited total for active users, typical creator income, or audience demographics. They also do not support treating the 2025 fund or competition amounts as a measure of what creators generally earn.
