L0p4Map is a Python desktop application for discovering and monitoring networks, running Nmap scans, and exploring findings in an interactive topology view. Its project documentation lists Linux, Windows, and macOS support. To use its packet-capture and ARP-scanning features, expect extra dependencies and elevated privileges; the project’s compatibility claims have not been independently verified.
What L0p4Map does
L0p4Map brings several network-visibility tasks into one graphical application. According to its project README, it can discover local hosts, collect device clues, launch Nmap scans against targets, and display results as a network map. Its stated audience is security researchers and network administrators.

The functions described by the project include:
- Host discovery: ARP discovery, hostname resolution through multiple methods, and an IEEE OUI vendor database to help identify manufacturers.
- Device fingerprinting: inferring device roles from observed characteristics. These are clues, not guaranteed identifications.
- Target scanning: scanning individual IP addresses, CIDR blocks, or ranges. The README says routed targets are grouped below their last-hop router in the topology.
- Nmap integration: the project describes SYN and UDP scans, operating-system and service-version detection, and NSE scripts, alongside banner collection and vulnerability-related checks.
- Traffic visibility: capturing and summarizing traffic, filtering by device or protocol, and exporting traffic data as CSV.
- Ongoing monitoring: passive ARP and mDNS monitoring with alerts for newly observed devices, traceroute, and configurable graph refresh intervals.
These are project-documented capabilities, not independent test results. A vulnerability-related finding is a reason to investigate and validate a host, not proof that it is vulnerable. The sources do not provide independent accuracy measurements for scans or device fingerprints.
How the topology view helps
The graphical view is intended to turn discovered hosts and scan results into a navigable picture of a network. The README describes hierarchical and force-directed layouts, subnet overlays, and device details. It also says the graph can be exported as CSV or PNG.

This makes the map useful as an exploration surface: an operator can inspect how discovered devices are grouped, then use scan or device details to decide what to examine next. It should not be treated as a definitive inventory. Discovery depends on network reachability, permissions, configuration, and the methods used; the project has not published independent measurements showing how complete or accurate its maps are.
What you need before installing
The README lists Python 3.11 or later and Nmap as requirements. Packet capture requires Npcap on Windows or libpcap on Linux and macOS. ARP scanning and packet capture require elevated privileges for the relevant operations.

Version and package status
The official releases page lists version 1.0.3 as a packaging-fix release. Earlier release notes include entry-point and build fixes; the 1.0.0 notes call it the first stable release and describe range cartography and embedded service fingerprinting additions. Check the release page for current installation guidance and changes.

Consider it if you want a graphical way to bring local discovery, Nmap scanning, traffic summaries, and topology exploration together, and you are comfortable managing Python, Nmap, capture support, and privileged operations. If you only need one narrow task, a dedicated command-line scanner or traffic-analysis application may be a more direct choice; the available sources do not provide comparative testing to establish which tool is better.
