Kojima’s new spy game is PHYSINT, an upcoming action-espionage title from Kojima Productions. It is a new original intellectual property, not an announced Metal Gear Solid sequel. Xbox became the project’s publishing partner in September 2026, and Bill Skarsgård is confirmed as the lead performer.
The useful comparison with Metal Gear Solid is therefore about genre and authorship, not shared continuity. Hideo Kojima is returning to espionage after the series that made his name, while describing PHYSINT as a different creative direction with new ideas. As of October 19, 2026, there is no confirmed release date, final platform list, price, preorder listing, detailed plot, or demonstrated gameplay.

What PHYSINT is
PHYSINT is Kojima Productions’ upcoming action-espionage game and the studio’s third original IP. The company presents it as a project Hideo Kojima regards as the culmination of his 40-year career as a game creator. That description establishes ambition and genre, but it does not establish a sequel relationship with any earlier franchise.

The official positioning uses “action-espionage” rather than the narrower label of a traditional stealth game. Kojima has said the project is intended to redefine that genre, and current interview coverage quotes him wanting “plenty of new ideas and a different kind of spy action.” Those statements explain why comparisons with Metal Gear Solid are inevitable while also warning that PHYSINT should not be treated as a renamed continuation.

Who is making and publishing it
Kojima Productions is developing PHYSINT. In September 2026, Kojima Productions and Xbox announced an expanded partnership naming Xbox as the project’s current publishing partner. A publishing partnership is not, by itself, a complete consumer platform announcement: no final platform list or release program has been confirmed in the official material available as of October 19, 2026.
Who stars in PHYSINT
Bill Skarsgård is confirmed as the lead performer. The announced ensemble also includes Charlee Fraser, Don Lee and Minami Hamabe. Their involvement confirms a prominent performance-led presentation, but the studio has not yet disclosed each character’s name, role, nationality or relationship to the story.
Why the “40-year culmination” description matters
Kojima Productions’ wording places PHYSINT in a career context rather than giving a conventional plot synopsis. Calling it a culmination of Kojima’s 40 years as a creator signals that the project is meant to draw on his experience with interactive storytelling, film language and espionage themes. It does not mean every earlier mechanic or character will return.
For readers, the distinction is useful. The phrase supports expectations of a major, carefully presented project, but it is not a specification for length, budget, camera perspective, mission count or technology. Until the studio demonstrates the game, those details remain open.
Is PHYSINT Metal Gear Solid 6?
No. PHYSINT is not announced as Metal Gear Solid 6, and it is not confirmed to share Metal Gear characters, canon, setting, terminology or organizations. Metal Gear Solid is an established series associated with Konami; PHYSINT is described by Kojima Productions as a new original IP.
The confusion comes from genuine similarities. Both projects are associated with Hideo Kojima, center on espionage-themed action and are built to attract players interested in cinematic spy fiction. That creative lineage makes PHYSINT a spiritual point of comparison, but it does not create continuity. Calling it “Metal Gear Solid 6” would turn a confirmed distinction into an unsupported claim.

PHYSINT versus Metal Gear Solid: the meaningful differences
1. Identity and ownership
Metal Gear Solid is part of Konami’s long-running Metal Gear property. Konami reported that the Metal Gear series had sold more than 62 million copies as of 2025, giving it a substantial established audience and a large body of continuity. PHYSINT begins without that inherited canon. Its characters, terminology and fictional history will have to be introduced from the ground up.

2. Creative lineage
Kojima’s return to espionage provides the strongest link. His authorship is the reason many players expect elaborate conspiracies, cinematic scenes and a mix of political thriller ideas with interactive action. Those are reasonable expectations about tone and ambition, not guarantees about specific mechanics.
The available statements emphasize “new ideas” and “a different kind of spy action.” PHYSINT may therefore preserve an interest in espionage while changing how that interest is expressed. Until the studio explains the world and player role, it is more accurate to describe a creative lineage than a formula.
3. Gameplay evidence
Metal Gear Solid has a demonstrated history of stealth systems, alert states, enemy patrols, equipment choices and mission designs built around avoiding or confronting detection. Those are observed characteristics of released games, not predictions about PHYSINT.

PHYSINT’s official descriptions do not yet specify whether players will hide, disguise themselves, manipulate surveillance, negotiate, fight through encounters or use a completely different structure. No particular stealth mechanic, mission format, player-choice system or progression model should be presented as confirmed. The genre label alone cannot answer those questions.
4. Presentation and performance
Kojima Productions is highlighting a technology-heavy action-espionage experience and a cast of prominent performers. That points toward a substantial cinematic component, but it does not reveal how much of the final game will be interactive play, cutscene presentation, conversation, investigation or simulation.
Metal Gear has historically combined long cinematic sequences with playable stealth scenarios. PHYSINT could use a similar balance, or it could organize its storytelling differently. The confirmed cast and technology emphasis support interest in presentation; they do not prove a particular runtime, camera style or ratio of cutscenes to gameplay.
5. Availability
Released Metal Gear Solid games can be played now, and the franchise has current remake products. PHYSINT has no confirmed consumer release date, retail listing or preorder page in the official information available through October 19, 2026. That makes any availability comparison provisional: one is an established catalog, while the other remains in development.

- Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)

That relationship is useful when setting expectations. Snake Eater lets players examine a known Metal Gear design tradition in a released, playable form: its stealth encounters, equipment, enemy behavior and mission pacing can be experienced rather than inferred from a genre description. PHYSINT may eventually depart from that tradition, and no claim about identical systems is justified before Kojima Productions shows them.
The two projects also have different purposes. A remake revisits an existing game and preserves its place in a known series. PHYSINT is intended to establish a separate property. A comparison with Snake Eater can illuminate the kind of espionage design Kojima has used before, but it cannot predict PHYSINT’s final mechanics or story.
What the Xbox partnership does—and does not—tell us
The September 2026 announcement makes Xbox the publishing partner currently named for PHYSINT. This is an important change in the project’s public business relationship, especially because earlier public discussion associated the game with PlayStation. The latest announcement should be treated as the authoritative partnership update.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →It still does not answer the platform question. A publisher can support a project without every launch system being disclosed at the same time. Until Kojima Productions or Xbox publishes a formal platform list, do not promise a PlayStation release, an Xbox-console launch, a PC version, cloud availability or exclusivity. The safe statement is simply that Xbox is the confirmed publishing partner.
There is also no verified consumer listing to support a preorder link, price, edition breakdown or subscription inclusion. Those details should wait for an official store page or equivalent announcement.
What “action-espionage” tells you—and what it does not
The label combines an espionage subject with an action-oriented format. It indicates that PHYSINT is not being presented solely as a film, television project or noninteractive story. It does not settle whether the dominant activity will be stealth, combat, investigation, dialogue, traversal or another system.
That distinction prevents a common mistake in early coverage. A genre description can establish the broad creative lane, while only footage or a detailed developer explanation can establish controls and objectives. Readers should treat “action-espionage” as a category, not as proof that PHYSINT will reproduce Metal Gear’s alert meters, camouflage, codec conversations or boss encounters.
Why the cast announcement matters
Bill Skarsgård’s lead status and the announced participation of Charlee Fraser, Don Lee and Minami Hamabe show that Kojima Productions is foregrounding recognizable performance talent. This can help distinguish PHYSINT from a purely systems-driven announcement and suggests that character presentation will be part of its public identity.

However, no character names, roles or relationships have been published for these performers. It is therefore too early to infer a protagonist’s nationality, a team structure, a villain, a historical period or a connection to any Metal Gear figure. Casting confirms performers, not story functions.
Who should be watching PHYSINT?
Players looking for another Kojima espionage game
PHYSINT is the clearest upcoming opportunity for players who want Kojima’s next project in the spy genre. The attraction is the combination of his authorship, an action-espionage premise and a new cast led by Bill Skarsgård. The correct expectation is a new interpretation of the genre, not a continuation of Solid Snake’s story.
Metal Gear newcomers
Newcomers should not assume they need to know Metal Gear history to understand PHYSINT. Because it is an original IP, its eventual story should establish its own characters and world. At the same time, playing an existing Metal Gear title can provide context for why Kojima’s return to espionage is significant; Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater is the clearest current comparison point identified by Konami.

Cost, editions and what readers can buy now
PHYSINT has no announced price, retail edition, preorder page or subscription listing as of October 19, 2026. Any figure circulating without an official consumer listing should be treated as speculation. The same caution applies to claims about deluxe editions, collector’s items, early-access periods or bonuses.
If you want a product today that demonstrates Kojima-era espionage design, the honest shopping reference is Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater. Check the current platform, edition, seller, price and availability at the time of purchase, because those commercial details can change. Buying Snake Eater gives you an established Metal Gear experience; it does not reserve PHYSINT or guarantee that the two games will use identical systems.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to interpret future PHYSINT announcements
- Check whether the announcement comes from Kojima Productions or Xbox. Those are the parties identified in the current official partnership and project statements.
- Separate a trailer from a gameplay demonstration. A cinematic trailer can confirm cast, tone or setting without proving playable systems. Look for uninterrupted player-controlled footage before treating a mechanic as demonstrated.
- Look for a platform list and date together. A publisher announcement may precede launch-system details. Wait for explicit wording before assuming a PlayStation, Xbox or PC release.
- Verify retail information. Price, editions, preorder status and subscription access require a current consumer listing, not a rumor or an image of a logo.
- Compare mechanics only after they are shown. Until then, use Metal Gear as a historical reference rather than a specification sheet for PHYSINT.
- Track cast information separately from character information. A newly announced performer may confirm participation without revealing whether the role is playable, supporting or antagonistic.
What remains unknown as of October 19, 2026
- No release date or release window has been announced.
- No final platform list has been announced.
- No price, retail edition or preorder page has been announced.
- No detailed plot summary has been provided.
- No playable demonstration has established the game’s stealth, combat, mission or choice systems.
- No complete character breakdown has been published for the announced cast.
- No hardware requirements or performance targets have been published.
- No confirmed information explains whether PHYSINT will be single-player, multiplayer, linear, open-ended or structured around missions.
These are not minor omissions for a buying guide; they determine whether a reader can purchase, preorder or plan hardware around the game. Until they are supplied, the responsible description is an announced action-espionage project in development.
The bottom line
PHYSINT is Kojima Productions’ new original action-espionage IP, with Xbox as the newly announced publishing partner and Bill Skarsgård as its confirmed lead performer. It is not announced as Metal Gear Solid 6 and has no confirmed shared canon with Metal Gear. The comparison is valuable because Kojima is returning to the genre that defined much of his reputation, but his stated goal is new ideas and a different kind of spy action.
