bsglauncher.exe is the Windows executable for the Battlestate Games Launcher, the program used to start Escape from Tarkov. The filename alone does not prove that a copy is safe: a legitimate installation should come from the trusted Battlestate Games channel, have consistent publisher and version details, and pass security checks.
If the launcher crashes, closes immediately, will not open, or shows an update-related code such as 302009, work through the verification and repair steps below before deleting files or downloading a replacement executable.

Microsoft Q&A identifies BsgLauncher.exe as part of the Battlestate Games Launcher used to launch Escape from Tarkov (EFT). FreeFixer likewise describes it as a Battlestate Games Launcher component and attributes it to Battlestate Games according to the file’s version information.

The executable is normally installed with the launcher rather than as a standalone Windows component. One documented crash record used the path C:Battlestate GamesBsgLauncherBsgLauncher.exe. Your installation can use a different drive or folder, so the path is useful evidence but is not proof of authenticity by itself.

When you start the game, the launcher checks its own files and communicates with the game service before opening the game. A damaged update, blocked connection, broken launcher setting, or ordinary Windows application crash can therefore make the process appear briefly and then disappear.
Is bsglauncher.exe safe?
A genuine copy installed by the official Escape from Tarkov launcher is normally expected. A same-named file copied from a random download site is a different situation. Malware can use a familiar filename to appear trustworthy, so judge the file by its source and integrity rather than its name.
Signals that support a legitimate file
- You installed it as part of the trusted Battlestate Games or Escape from Tarkov launcher process.
- The file is inside the launcher installation directory, such as
C:Battlestate GamesBsgLauncher, rather than a temporary download, a browser cache, or an unrelated system folder. - File Properties show coherent product, publisher and version information associated with Battlestate Games.
- The file has a valid digital signature when Windows displays one.
- A current security scan reports no threat.
Warning signs
- You do not remember installing Escape from Tarkov or its launcher.
- The executable arrived in an email, archive, “DLL download” package, crack, or file-sharing bundle.
- Its publisher information is missing, inconsistent, or unrelated to the game.
- It runs from a user profile’s temporary folder or another location unrelated to the launcher.
- Security software flags it, or a scan finds other unwanted software at the same time.
Do not whitelist an unverified copy merely because the filename looks correct. Microsoft advises downloading applications from trusted sources, keeping Windows and antivirus protection current, and using Microsoft Defender scans when unwanted software is suspected.

Check the file before trying repairs
Record what Windows is actually reporting. This prevents you from treating a malware warning, a launcher update failure and a normal application crash as the same problem.
- Open File Explorer and locate the executable. If you reached it through a shortcut, right-click the shortcut, choose Properties, and use Open File Location.
- Right-click
BsgLauncher.exe, choose Properties, and inspect the General, Details and Digital Signatures tabs. Note the company or publisher, product name, file version, original filename and location. - On the Digital Signatures tab, select the signature and choose Details. A valid signature is supporting evidence, not a guarantee that the file is harmless; an invalid or absent signature deserves extra caution.
- Write down the exact message or code, the time it appeared, and whether the launcher crashed, closed silently, failed during an update, or rejected authentication.
- Do not replace the executable with one downloaded separately. If the file is not from a trusted installation, quarantine it with your security software and obtain the launcher again from the official game channel.
Run security checks safely
Start with Microsoft Defender
- Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
- Select Virus & threat protection, then choose Scan options.
- Run a Full scan so files outside the launcher directory are checked as well.
- Allow the scan to complete and follow Windows Security’s recommended action for anything it detects. Do not restore or allow a flagged executable simply to make the game start.
If unwanted software remains suspected after the normal scan, Microsoft recommends Microsoft Defender Offline. The offline scan restarts Windows and checks before the usual desktop environment loads, which can help with software that interferes with a normal scan. Save open work first and follow the restart prompt.
Do not weaken protection permanently
Antivirus, firewall or endpoint-control software can sometimes block a legitimate launcher during an update. To investigate a possible block, check the security product’s detection history and Windows Firewall notifications first. If you perform a temporary test, use the shortest possible interval, restore protection immediately, and never create a permanent exception for a file whose origin or signature you have not verified.

Basic Windows steps for a launcher that will not open
Restart and update Windows
- Save your work and restart Windows. A pending restart can leave update services or file locks in an incomplete state.
- Open Settings and go to Windows Update.
- Install all available Windows and security updates, restart when requested, and check Windows Update again until no further restart is pending.
- Try the launcher once after the restart. Record whether the symptom changed instead of repeatedly launching it.
Separate a crash from an update or authentication failure
A process that appears for a second and closes, or a Windows message naming a faulting module, is a crash pattern. A message about maintenance, downloading, account access or a numeric code is an update or authentication pattern. The distinction matters because reinstalling Windows will not repair a blocked account response, while repeatedly retrying an update will not repair a damaged local executable.

- Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc to open Task Manager.
- Look for BsgLauncher.exe or a Battlestate Games Launcher entry under running processes.
- If a process remains after the window has disappeared, select it and choose End task once. Do not terminate unrelated Windows processes.
- Start the launcher again from its normal shortcut. If it immediately exits again, continue with the log and reinstall steps rather than repeatedly killing the process.
Fix common bsglauncher.exe failure patterns
“BsgLauncher.exe keeps crashing” or KERNELBASE.dll is named
A Microsoft Q&A crash record lists BsgLauncher.exe as the faulting application, KERNELBASE.dll as the faulting module, and the path C:Battlestate GamesBsgLauncherBsgLauncher.exe. This demonstrates a normal Windows application crash report; it does not establish that either KERNELBASE.dll or the launcher is malware.
- Capture the crash time and the complete Windows error text.
- Confirm the executable’s publisher, signature and location as described earlier.
- Restart Windows and install pending updates.
- Run a full Microsoft Defender scan.
- If the launcher still crashes, reinstall it from the trusted Battlestate Games source rather than replacing only
BsgLauncher.exe. - Preserve the crash details and launcher logs for Battlestate Games support if the reinstall does not help.
“BsgLauncher.exe won’t open” or closes immediately
This symptom can result from a damaged launcher file, a blocked process, a stale setting, security software intervention or an ordinary application crash. Community reports describe brief process appearances, administrator-launch attempts and removal of the launcher settings folder, but those reports are anecdotal and are not proof that one step works for every installation.

- Verify that the shortcut points to the copy you inspected, not to an old or duplicated installation.
- Check Windows Security and any endpoint-control history for a block or quarantine event.
- End a leftover launcher process in Task Manager, restart Windows, and try once more.
- Back up the launcher settings folder before changing it. Rename the folder instead of deleting it so you can restore it if needed. This resets local settings without destroying the original immediately.
- If the process still closes, uninstall and reinstall the complete launcher from the trusted source.
Error 302009
The numeric code by itself does not prove that the executable is infected or that Windows has a specific system-file fault. Treat 302009 according to the message displayed with it: determine whether the launcher was updating, checking maintenance status or handling account access, then record the exact text and time.
- Confirm that you are using the genuine launcher and that its file details are consistent.
- Restart Windows and retry once after applying pending Windows and security updates.
- Check whether security software recorded a block during the failed attempt; do not permanently disable protection to bypass the message.
- If the launcher files may be incomplete, uninstall and reinstall the launcher from the official game channel.
- If 302009 remains after a clean reinstall, send Battlestate Games support the code, full wording, launcher version, Windows version, timestamp and relevant logs. A support team can distinguish a service-side or account response from a local file problem.
Maintenance or update errors
Maintenance and update failures should not be “fixed” by downloading a replacement executable from a DLL site. A replacement may be tampered with, may not match the rest of the launcher, and can make later diagnosis harder. Use the complete installer from the trusted source and keep the original error record.
Reinstall the launcher without creating a new risk
- Confirm that you know your account credentials and that any local settings or logs you may need are backed up.
- Use Settings > Apps > Installed apps (or the equivalent Apps list in your Windows edition) to uninstall the Battlestate Games Launcher.
- Restart Windows after uninstalling.
- Download the launcher only through the official Battlestate Games or Escape from Tarkov distribution channel. Do not use a search result offering an isolated
BsgLauncher.exe, a DLL bundle or a modified installer. - Install the launcher, allow it to update completely, and start it from the new shortcut.
- Check the new executable’s Properties again. The location, product information and signature should be consistent with the fresh installation.
Reinstalling is appropriate when files are damaged or incomplete. It is not a substitute for a security investigation when the original file came from an untrusted source; in that case, complete the Defender checks and review other recently installed software as well.
Use Event Viewer and logs when the problem continues
When a reinstall does not resolve the failure, collect evidence instead of guessing.
- Press Win+R, type
eventvwr.msc, and press Enter. - Open Windows Logs > Application.
- Look for an Error entry at the exact time of the failed launch. Record the faulting application, faulting module, exception code and event ID.
- Keep any launcher logs generated at the installation directory or in the launcher’s user-data location. Copy them rather than editing or deleting them.
- Send the timestamp, Windows edition and build, launcher version, exact message, Event Viewer details and relevant logs to Battlestate Games support. Remove passwords, access tokens and other account secrets before sharing.
The documented KERNELBASE.dll example illustrates why these records matter: the module named in a crash report is not automatically the cause. Support needs the surrounding event details and the launcher’s own logs to identify whether the failure is local, update-related or service-related.
Can you delete bsglauncher.exe?
Do not delete an isolated executable while the launcher is installed. Removing it can leave an incomplete installation and replace a clear error with a missing-file error. If you no longer use Escape from Tarkov, uninstall the Battlestate Games Launcher through Windows’ installed-apps settings, then remove only leftover folders you recognize and no longer need.
If a same-named file was downloaded from an untrusted location and is not part of your game installation, quarantine it with current security software rather than opening or manually replacing it. After a scan, uninstall the associated unwanted software if Windows identifies one, restart, and scan again.

When to stop troubleshooting locally
Stop experimenting and seek support when security software continues to detect the file, the executable came from an unknown source, the launcher fails after a verified reinstall, or the error involves account access or a service response that local file repair cannot change. Keep the original executable quarantined, preserve logs, and provide the exact version, path, message and timestamp rather than downloading more replacement files.
