A larger mobile base called the Cloud Cruiser carries your aircraft, supplies and workshops. The game is planned for solo play and online co-op for up to four players.
Its survival design is built around preparation, travel and maintenance rather than a documented hunger-and-thirst meter. Weather, hostile creatures, drones, alien vegetation, darkness and difficult air currents make every expedition a logistical decision: what to carry, which Wasp to fly, how much fuel to reserve and when to return to the Cruiser.

What kind of game is ATMOSFAR?
ATMOSFAR combines open-world exploration, light base building, crafting and vehicle management. The setting, Tycos, is a layered world of floating islands, distinct regions and multiple biomes. The broad story objective is to investigate what happened to humanity’s final outpost or collapsed colony. Official descriptions also allow two complementary ways to play: follow the story or roam freely in search of resources, artifacts and new places.

The advertised structure puts aerial travel at the center of progression. You are not simply building a permanent camp and walking outward from it. Instead, you maintain a fleet of small aircraft and a mobile airbase, moving between islands while balancing exploration, repairs, fuel and life-support capacity.

ATMOSFAR is planned for single-player and online co-op with as many as four players. In a group, players can share camps, ride in another player’s Wasp, fly in formation and work together on the Cloud Cruiser.
How the survival loop works
The central loop connects scavenging, crafting, flight and upkeep. Each activity creates a requirement for the next one, so preparation matters as much as moment-to-moment combat or movement.
1. Search islands for scrap and useful materials
Exploration begins on foot or in the air. Islands contain scrap and other resources that can be recovered from the environment. The game presents scrap as a practical raw material rather than disposable loot: it is processed into reusable parts that support later crafting and repairs.

2. Convert scrap into parts
Recovered scrap is turned into parts for new items and equipment. This gives expeditions a clear purpose even when you are not following a story objective. A trip can supply components for a tool, a consumable, an aircraft repair or an upgrade to the mobile base.
3. Manufacture fuel and consumables
Fuel is a core survival resource because Wasps are not presented as unlimited-use mounts. Players manufacture fuel and other consumables before setting out, then decide how far they can safely travel before returning to the Cruiser or another camp. The official descriptions do not provide a fixed fuel capacity, recipe list or consumption rate, so those details should not be assumed.

4. Keep the backpack life-support system running
The backpack contains a life-support system that powers the player and their tools. Managing that system is distinct from simply carrying healing items: the life-support unit is described as an energy source for survival and equipment use. Expeditions therefore require attention to the player’s own support system as well as aircraft fuel and physical supplies.
5. Maintain and repair the aircraft
Wasps require fuel, maintenance and repairs. A successful flight is not just a matter of reaching an island; you must also preserve the aircraft well enough to leave. Damage, wear and fuel use make route planning important, particularly when weather or hostile encounters can force detours.
6. Use artifacts to improve flying vessels
Artifacts can upgrade parts and sections of flying vessels. This creates a longer-term progression path beyond replacing damaged components. Upgrades are advertised for aircraft parts and sections, but exact statistics, costs and unlock order have not been published.
What makes an expedition dangerous?
Tycos is designed to punish unplanned travel through several overlapping hazards:
- Alien plants and creatures: The environment itself can be hostile, and creatures may turn a routine salvage stop into a fight or retreat.
- Drones: Mechanical enemies add another threat category beyond wildlife.
- Nightfall: Darkness changes the risk of remaining away from a safe base and makes navigation and resource decisions more consequential.
- Strong winds and jet streams: Air currents affect piloting and can complicate a return journey.
- Rainstorms: Storms are listed among the hazards that reward preparation and careful flying.
The official material does not describe a conventional hunger or thirst system. It is more accurate to understand ATMOSFAR’s survival as management of life support, fuel, equipment condition, consumables and environmental risk than to assume it follows the standard food-and-water formula used by many survival games.

Wasps: the specialized aircraft
Wasps are small flying craft designed for different jobs. They can fly quickly and hover, making them useful both for crossing gaps between islands and for precise positioning around salvage sites. Engine parts, hover sections and hulls can be swapped, and paint jobs can change their appearance.

Steam’s planned Early Access starting content is described as including three Wasps, while the Early Access roadmap separately lists the Scout Wasp as a later addition. The press kit describes four class names: Utility, Cargo, Scout and Fighter. Because those descriptions refer to planned content and use slightly different naming, the safest conclusion is that the roster and exact class labels may change between builds.
The Cloud Cruiser is your mobile base
The Cloud Cruiser is a large aerial base that moves between locations rather than remaining tied to one island. It can carry Wasps and their fuel, provide storage and be piloted to new areas. That makes it the organizing center of the survival loop: small aircraft handle local jobs, while the Cruiser transports the fleet and its supplies across the wider world.
Official descriptions give the Cruiser several functions:
- A hangar for storing and managing Wasps.
- Storage for scrap, craftables and other supplies.
- Space to carry aircraft fuel.
- A lounge and shared working area.
- Crop growing and harvesting, according to the press kit.
- Construction and expansion of Cruiser sections.
The planned co-op design treats the Cruiser as a shared project. Players can cooperate to manage and build it, so base progression is not limited to one person’s private camp. Its mobility also changes the strategic question from “Where should I place my permanent base?” to “Which destination should the whole expedition move toward, and what should we bring?”

Exploration, traversal and progression
Movement alternates between walking and flight. On foot, players can search local terrain, collect materials and interact with threats at close range. In a Wasp, they can cross open air, hover and use a craft suited to the current task. A Cargo Wasp may be appropriate for a heavy salvage run, while a Utility Wasp can establish a temporary camp and a combat-oriented craft can help when enemies block a route.
The world is described as a collection of floating islands spread across regions and biomes rather than one continuous ground map. That structure makes aircraft performance and piloting central to exploration. Strong winds and jet streams are not merely visual effects in the advertised design; they are environmental conditions that can influence routes and the safety of a return trip.
Progression combines practical upgrades with discovery. Scrap supports immediate crafting and repairs. Artifacts improve vessel parts and sections. Cruiser upgrades expand what the mobile base can do. Story objectives provide direction, while free-roam play lets players choose when to pursue exploration, salvage, construction or upgrades.

ATMOSFAR is advertised as online co-op for up to four players, with the same world and survival systems applying to a group. The official examples include shared camps, riding in a friend’s Wasp, flying in formation and cooperating on the Cloud Cruiser.

One person can pilot while another focuses on salvage, a combat-capable Wasp can protect a resource run, and the group can divide Cruiser management and crafting tasks. These are practical implications of the advertised systems, not confirmation of a formal role or matchmaking system; no such details have been published.
Release status, platforms and planned Early Access content
As of October 7, 2026, Shueisha Games lists ATMOSFAR for Steam and the Epic Games Store, with a scheduled 2026 release. The publisher lists eight supported languages: Japanese, English, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, French, German, Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese. The publisher has not announced a price.
Steam still labels the game Coming Soon and states that it is not yet available there. The 2026 date is therefore a publisher schedule, not a confirmed launch date.

In its Steam Early Access FAQ, Apog Labs says, “ATMOSFAR will remain in Early Access for at least 9 months, however this period could be extended with more added content if enough Vagabonds join us on the flight.” The same FAQ says, “Yes, there will be a slight price increase before the game releases into its full version.” Those statements describe the developers’ intended Early Access and pricing approach; they do not establish a current price or a guaranteed schedule.
What is confirmed, and what remains uncertain?
The official descriptions establish the game’s intended pillars: floating-island exploration, aircraft piloting, scrap-based crafting, life-support management, fuel and maintenance, a mobile aerial base, solo play and small-group co-op. They do not establish final performance, exact recipes, aircraft statistics, enemy counts, system requirements, a launch day or a final price.
Because the game is not yet available on Steam, the listed Wasp roster, Cruiser systems or roadmap additions are not confirmed in a playable build. Build availability can differ from the press kit and store plan, and the completed game may change during development.
Who is ATMOSFAR for?
ATMOSFAR is most likely to appeal to players who want aerial traversal to be a primary activity rather than a late-game convenience. Its strongest distinguishing choices are the specialized Wasp fleet, the need to maintain aircraft and life support, and the use of a mobile base instead of a single fixed headquarters.
- Choose it if you enjoy planning expeditions around fuel, repairs, cargo and weather.
- Choose it if piloting, hovering and navigating floating islands sound more appealing than a ground-only survival map.
- Choose it if you want a shared base that can be expanded and moved with your co-op group.
- Wait for more concrete details if you need confirmed launch timing, a published price, final system requirements or evidence of how the mechanics feel in practice.
In short, ATMOSFAR presents survival as a connected expedition system: the player powers tools with life support, the Wasp consumes fuel and needs repairs, the Cruiser carries the fleet and supplies, and Tycos’ hazards force you to prepare before leaving. Its final balance and availability are still unsettled, but that relationship between exploration, aircraft upkeep and a mobile airbase is the defining idea behind the game.
