What Is AMD Sound Wave? Rumored Specs, Architecture and Timing

Sound Wave is a reported AMD codename, not a confirmed retail chip. Reports conflict over whether it is a Zen 6 or Arm design and when it might arrive.

“Sound Wave” is a reported AMD processor codename, not an established retail chip name or a product AMD has publicly confirmed in the sources available here. Reports disagree on its architecture and launch timing: a July 2024 analyst roadmap associated it with Zen 6 and forecast 2025, while a March 2025 leak report described a low-power Arm APU aimed at 2026. Neither account establishes AMD’s final plans.

What is AMD Sound Wave?

Sound Wave appears in third-party reporting as a possible mobile processor or APU codename. The cited reports do not establish a retail processor, a laptop powered by it, or an official AMD specification sheet. Its existence and details should therefore be treated as reported claims rather than confirmed product facts.

The name appeared in KGI Asia’s notebook CPU roadmap dated 26 July 2024 as “Ryzen 400 (Sound Wave).” That analyst roadmap is evidence that the codename was circulating by that date; its forecast is not an AMD launch commitment. KGI Asia’s report

What have reports said about its architecture and schedule?

Source and date Architecture claim Process claim Timing claim Evidence status
KGI Asia, 26 July 2024 Zen 6; listed as “Ryzen 400 (Sound Wave)” TBC in the roadmap 2025 forecast launch Analyst roadmap, not an AMD announcement. Source
TechRadar, 2024 Discussed possible Zen 6 Speculated about TSMC 3 nm Not established in the cited account Secondary coverage of an early leak; the article urged skepticism. Source
IT Home, 21 March 2025 Possible Arm APU TSMC 3 nm 2026 estimate Leak claims credited to Moore’s Law Is Dead; unconfirmed. Source

The descriptions do not line up: KGI Asia’s 2024 entry points to Zen 6, while the later leak report describes Arm. The sources cited here do not resolve that discrepancy with official AMD documentation. Do not treat either architecture or forecast date as a confirmed specification or release window.

What specifications have been rumored?

IT Home’s 21 March 2025 report attributed the following proposed details to a Moore’s Law Is Dead leak. They are not validated AMD specifications, and the report does not establish that they describe final hardware.

Reported item Claim in the March 2025 leak report
Processor design Arm APU; 2 performance cores plus 4 efficiency cores
Power target 5–10 W
Manufacturing process TSMC 3 nm
Cache 4 MB L3 and 16 MB MALL cache
Graphics Four RDNA 3.5 compute units
Memory LPDDR5X-9600
AI hardware Fourth-generation AI engine
Release estimate 2026

These figures should be read together as claims from that particular leak report—not as independently tested performance results, confirmed component specifications, or evidence that a finished product is shipping.

Has AMD confirmed a product or named a laptop customer?

The cited coverage does not include an AMD product announcement confirming Sound Wave, a named OEM customer, or an announced retail device using the chip. IT Home published another report on 13 October 2025 discussing reported shipping-list entries and repeating earlier leak details, but that remains secondary reporting rather than official confirmation.
