A creator adds a question or theme to a photo or video, and other users can tap the prompt to publish their own photo or video responses. Each response is a separate TikTok post connected to the same topic—not a comment, Duet, or Stitch.
You can start a prompt, answer someone else’s, or create a new topic from an existing prompt. The exact controls can vary by app version, language, account, region, and TikTok’s interface tests.

What does Add Yours mean on TikTok?
An Add Yours prompt is a community invitation such as “show your workspace,” “your favorite travel photo,” or “the meal you make when you have no time.” The original creator proposes the topic; viewers contribute their own posts.
Prompts can use a creator-written idea or one of TikTok’s suggested topics, including suggestions based on trending subjects. The prompt appears as a button or sticker attached to a post. Tap it to read the topic and choose Add yours. TikTok says the prompt itself is visible to everyone, while each response follows the responder’s own post and account privacy settings. The original creator, mutual friends, and other participants may receive notifications when someone responds. Notification behavior is not guaranteed to be identical for every account.
What does the Add Yours button look like?
It is generally a button or sticker attached to the post, but there is no permanent icon design that every user sees. Placement, wording, and appearance may change with TikTok updates, language settings, account experiments, or regional rollouts. Tapping the control opens the topic details and the Add yours response option.
How to create an Add Yours prompt
- Open the TikTok mobile app and tap Add post + at the bottom.
- Upload a photo or video, or tap Camera to record one.
- On the editing screen, tap Add Yours. If it is not shown, tap Stickers, then choose the Add Yours sticker.
- Enter your prompt or select one of TikTok’s suggested prompts.
- Tap Done.
- Add text, effects, sound, filters, or other edits as needed.
- Tap Next, review the post settings, and tap Post.

- Make the answer visual and possible with one image or a short video.
- Be specific enough that viewers immediately know what to share.
- Keep participation affordable and simple.
- Do not ask for passwords, exact locations, school details, medical information, or other sensitive data.
- Avoid dangerous stunts, harassment bait, or challenges that pressure people to take risks.
Examples include “Add yours: your current desk setup,” “Add yours: your oldest concert ticket,” and “Add yours: the meal you make when you have no time.” A prompt such as “a view from your neighborhood” can reveal a person’s location, so add a privacy warning or choose a safer subject.

How to answer someone’s Add Yours prompt
- Open the post containing the prompt.
- Tap the Add Yours button to view the topic details.
- Tap Add yours.
- Upload a photo or video, or record one with the camera.
- Add text, effects, sound, filters, or other edits.
- Tap Next.
- Check the audience and other post settings, then tap Post.
Your response is a new post. The prompt creator, mutual friends, and other responders may be notified. The audience is determined by your account and individual-post privacy settings, not simply by the fact that the original prompt was public.
How to start a new topic from an existing Add Yours post
You can launch a related prompt instead of answering the original one:
- Open a post with an Add Yours prompt.
- Tap the prompt button to see its details.
- Tap New topic at the bottom.
- Write a prompt or select a suggested one, then tap Done.
- Upload or record a photo or video.
- Edit it, tap Next, review settings, and tap Post.
New topic creates a separate participation chain. Add yours answers the existing one.

Who can see an Add Yours prompt and response?
TikTok says Add Yours prompts are visible to everyone. That does not make every response public. Before publishing, check the individual post’s audience:

The choices above are documented in TikTok’s video visibility guidance. A profile photo may appear on the Add Yours button associated with a response. Public TikTok content can also be shared on or off TikTok, so avoid posting anything you would not want redistributed.
If you later change a response to a narrower audience, that does not guarantee that earlier notifications, screenshots, downloads, or copies elsewhere disappear.
How to find your Add Yours posts
- Tap Profile.
- Tap the Menu ☰ button.
- Select TikTok Studio.
- Under More tools, tap Add Yours.
- Open Added for prompts you have answered, or To add for prompts you have been invited to create.
If you have not made an Add Yours post, TikTok may show New topic instead. TikTok frequently changes navigation labels. If TikTok Studio is missing, update the app, check the Profile menu again, and use TikTok’s in-app support rather than assuming an alternative path works for every account.
Can you remove Add Yours after posting?
Not directly. TikTok says the Add Yours button cannot be deleted from a published post through ordinary editing. Your documented options are:

- Change the post’s privacy setting.
- Delete the post.
- If TikTok added the button automatically, use the notification about that change to contact TikTok about removing it.
TikTok may automatically add an Add Yours button to a post containing a popular topic to invite interaction. It describes this as a possibility, not a guaranteed action, and does not publish the exact detection criteria or a universal switch to disable it. Why is Add Yours missing?
TikTok does not publish one universal eligibility checklist or rollout schedule. Availability may depend on your account, age, region, privacy settings, app version, or a temporary interface issue. Age-based controls and Family Pairing can also limit features; see TikTok’s teen privacy and safety settings.
Try this sequence:
- Update TikTok through your device’s official app store.
- Close and reopen the app.
- Start a normal photo or video post and check both the editing toolbar and Stickers → Add Yours.
- Open an existing Add Yours prompt and check whether Add yours appears.
- Review your account age, privacy settings, and any Family Pairing restrictions.
- Try another eligible post.
- Use TikTok’s in-app reporting or support tools if the control remains absent.
These checks may help but are not guaranteed fixes. If you can see a prompt but not Add yours, the prompt may be unavailable, interaction may be limited by settings, or TikTok may be showing a temporary or account-specific interface.

Is Add Yours safe?
The feature is not inherently unsafe, but prompts can encourage people to reveal more than they intended. Before posting, consider whether the image or video shows your face, home interior, school, workplace, possessions, daily routine, or identifiable location. Public prompts can attract responses from strangers, and a busy prompt can generate many notifications.
- Use a specific but privacy-conscious topic.
- Do not show addresses, school badges, travel plans, account details, or exact routines.
- Check the individual post audience before tapping Post.
- Assume anything public may be copied or shared elsewhere.
- For minors, consider age-appropriate prompts and review Family Pairing controls.
How creators can use Add Yours effectively
- Connect the prompt to your niche and explain exactly what kind of answer you want.
- Allow either a photo or a short video so participation is easy.
- Avoid expensive purchases, risky challenges, and requests for personal data.
- Moderate responses and report inappropriate content when necessary.
- Decide whether the topic is suitable for a public, mixed-age audience.
- Use a regular caption, comment question, video reply, Duet, Stitch, or poll instead when those formats communicate your idea more clearly.
Notifications and turning them down
TikTok says the prompt creator receives Inbox notifications when people respond, and that the creator, mutual friends, and other responders may be notified. If you do not want prompt-related alerts, TikTok points to turning off notifications for Mentions and tags. That setting may affect other notifications too, so review the broader notification impact before changing it.
Is Add Yours free and available to every account?
Add Yours is a native TikTok feature; no paid subscription or outside service is required. However, TikTok does not state that every account, age group, country, platform, or app version receives every Add Yours control. Availability can change with local law, age settings, Family Pairing, privacy restrictions, and staged rollouts.
