Home Depot Pro Xtra is a free professional loyalty account for contractors and other people who buy for work. Lowe’s PRO Account is a business account that must be registered to a U.S. organization; Lowe’s says organizations of any business type can join its MyLowe’s Pro Rewards program. Neither account is intended for ordinary personal shopping. The important difference is eligibility: Home Depot describes a qualifying professional customer, while Lowe’s requires a business organization, a business name and an administrator authorized to bind it.
What a “pro account” means at each retailer
Both programs combine purchasing tools with loyalty benefits, but they are structured differently. Home Depot Pro Xtra is primarily a professional-customer rewards program. Lowe’s PRO Account is an organization account with user administration, purchasing controls and enrollment in MyLowe’s Pro Rewards.

Professional customers, not resellers
Home Depot describes Pro Xtra as “a rewards program for contractors and other professionals who do business with The Home Depot.” The program is free to join. Its terms say registration is limited to professional customers, and resellers are excluded.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
You do not need to be a large construction company. A contractor, remodeler, electrician, plumber, painter, property-maintenance operator or another person buying supplies for paid work can fit the program’s professional-customer description. The decisive issue is the purpose of the purchases: the membership must be used for business transactions, not ordinary household shopping.
Registration and possible verification
You must complete registration and remain in good standing. Home Depot’s terms allow the company to verify that a member is a professional customer. Be prepared to explain the nature of your work or provide information requested during signup or account review. Approval is not a promise that every applicant will receive every benefit.
How a purchase becomes qualifying
To receive Pro Xtra benefits, you must identify yourself as a member and make a qualifying purchase. In a store, enter or scan your Pro Xtra ID. Online, sign in to the Pro Xtra account before checkout.
Qualifying purchases are designated products or services bought through Home Depot’s U.S. stores, website or mobile app. The terms exclude taxes, fees, returns, prior purchases, gift cards and the value of perks or promotions. A purchase that is eligible in principle may therefore produce no benefit if the account was not attached at checkout or if the item falls under an exclusion.
What Pro Xtra can provide
Home Depot lists possible benefits such as competitive or preferred pricing, special delivery options, business tools, exclusive offers and Perks. Preferred Pricing is described in the terms as better-than-shelf pricing on select in-stock items for Elite and VIP members. These benefits depend on purchase activity and membership status; Home Depot reserves the right to change or end program terms.

Who qualifies for a Lowe’s PRO Account?
A U.S. business organization is required
Lowe’s terms state: “PRO Accounts must be registered under a business name.” The account is available only to business customers in the United States, including the District of Columbia and the U.S. territories and possessions specified in the terms. Some benefits can vary by location.
Recommended Free Tools
Lowe’s help content gives the broadest eligibility answer: “All organizations can join the MyLowe’s Pro Rewards program and receive exclusive benefits.” The type of business does not matter. That wording can include a corporation, partnership, nonprofit, sole proprietorship or another legitimate organization, provided the account is used for business purchasing and meets Lowe’s current terms.
An authorized administrator creates the account
The primary administrator must have authority to bind the organization. That person creates the PRO Account under the business name and can invite other users. This makes the account suitable for a company with employees, field crews or purchasing staff who need to buy against one organization.
Using or creating a PRO Account enrolls the organization in MyLowe’s Pro Rewards and its applicable subprograms. Lowe’s prohibits personal use. If you also want a personal MyLowe’s Rewards Account, Lowe’s says it must use a different email address from the business account.

- Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)

What Lowe’s says the account can do
Depending on eligibility, location and the current terms, Lowe’s lists:
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
- Points, MyLowe’s Money, exclusive rewards and member deals
- Free standard shipping subject to exclusions
- Paint discounts after qualifying annual paint spend
- Online order quoting and purchase authorization
- Spend reports for the organization
- Scan to Pay
- Multi-delivery scheduling
- Project calculators
- Installation services and access to Lowe’s Rental
Some of these are operational tools rather than rewards. They can matter more than points if you need approval workflows, job-cost visibility or deliveries split across several addresses.
Lowe’s Pro status tiers, points and paint threshold
Lowe’s publishes annual status bands for qualifying spend. The following figures are stated for 2026 and can change under later program terms.
| Status | Annual qualifying spend | Points per qualifying dollar |
|---|---|---|
| Gold Pro | $0–$9,999 | 1 point |
| Platinum Pro | $10,000–$24,999 | 1.25 points |
| Titanium Pro | $25,000 or more | 1.5 points |
Lowe’s states that points are earned on qualifying purchases up to the first $1.5 million. One hundred points redeem for $1 of MyLowe’s Money. The earning rate is therefore tied to the organization’s status, while the redemption value is stated separately in the program rules.
Paint discount requirement
Lowe’s states that a 20% member paint discount applies to eligible paint purchases after annual qualifying paint spend reaches $3,000. “Eligible” products, qualifying transactions, timing and exclusions are controlled by the current terms, so do not assume every paint-related item counts.

Do you need a registered business?
For Home Depot Pro Xtra
Home Depot’s published eligibility language focuses on being a professional customer rather than presenting a universal requirement for incorporation, a tax number or a particular legal entity. A person who buys for a trade or other professional service may qualify, but must use the account for business transactions and satisfy any verification request. Resellers are excluded.
For Lowe’s PRO Account
Yes, the account must be registered under a business name, and the person opening it must be authorized to bind the organization. Lowe’s does not limit participation to one industry or a specific company size; its help center says all organizations can join MyLowe’s Pro Rewards. The business-name requirement is the key distinction for a freelancer or sole proprietor deciding between the two programs.
How to decide which account fits your situation
Choose Home Depot Pro Xtra when
- You are a contractor or other professional customer and want a free individual membership.
- Your main need is to associate purchases with a professional account and receive purchase-based Perks or offers.
- You do not need a formal multi-user approval structure.
Choose a Lowe’s PRO Account when
- You represent a U.S. organization and can register under its business name.
- Several people need controlled access to one purchasing account.
- You need quotes, purchase authorization, spend reports or coordinated deliveries.
- You want a published points-and-status system with Gold, Platinum and Titanium bands.
A business can use both retailers. The programs are not mutually exclusive, but each purchase must be attached to the correct account and comply with that retailer’s exclusions.
Signup and qualification checklist

- Respond to any request to verify professional-customer status.
- Save the Pro Xtra ID and scan or enter it for store purchases.
- For online orders, sign in before checkout and review whether the products or services are qualifying.

Lowe’s PRO Account
- Represent a U.S. organization covered by Lowe’s terms.
- Use the organization’s business name during registration.
- Have an authorized primary administrator create the account.
- Invite employees or other approved users only after setting the organization’s access rules.
- Use the account solely for business purchasing.
- Review current location, delivery, product, points and promotion exclusions before relying on a benefit.
Common qualification and rewards mistakes
Using a pro account for personal projects
Both programs are designed for business purchasing, and Lowe’s expressly prohibits personal use. Mixing household purchases into the account can make records, approvals and reward calculations unreliable and may violate the terms.

Home Depot excludes several transaction categories, including taxes, fees, returns, prior purchases and gift cards. Lowe’s points and shipping or paint benefits also depend on qualifying purchases and program exclusions. Check the specific terms instead of treating the shelf price or order total as automatically eligible.

Forgetting to identify the account
A qualifying transaction cannot be credited correctly if a store purchase is not linked to the Pro Xtra ID or an online order is placed while signed out. At Lowe’s, use the organization account and the authorized user process intended for the business.
Treating published thresholds as permanent
Lowe’s status bands, point rates, the $1.5 million earning ceiling and the $3,000 paint-spend trigger are program rules, not guarantees that they will remain unchanged. Home Depot also reserves the right to change or terminate Pro Xtra terms. Verify the live rules before making a large purchase based on an expected reward.
Confusing a loyalty account with a credit product
Pro Xtra membership does not require the Home Depot Pro Xtra Credit Card. A store card introduces separate credit terms, approval criteria and obligations; it should not be treated as an eligibility requirement for the loyalty account.
Geographic and account-use limits
Home Depot’s qualifying-purchase language covers its U.S. stores, website and mobile app. Lowe’s PRO Accounts are limited to business customers in the United States, including the District of Columbia and the territories and possessions listed in its terms. Benefits can vary by location, and delivery services, products, promotions and point expiration can have additional exclusions.
If your organization operates across borders, confirm that the specific account and transaction location are covered before assuming that a U.S. program will apply to purchases elsewhere.
Bottom line: who can qualify?
Home Depot Pro Xtra is the more flexible concept for an individual contractor or other professional customer: it is free, but it is for business transactions, excludes resellers and may involve professional-status verification. Lowe’s PRO Account is more formal: it must be created under a U.S. business name by an authorized administrator, but Lowe’s says organizations of any business type can join and invite users. Choose based on your status, the need for multi-user controls and whether purchase-based Perks or Lowe’s points, tiers and business tools better match how you buy.
