Amazon says Luna needs a sustained internet speed of at least 10 Mbps for a 1080p stream. That is a minimum, not a promise of smooth play: the connection needs to hold steady, and Wi-Fi conditions or other household traffic can still cause problems.
Amazon Luna’s internet speed requirement
For 1080p streaming, Amazon’s published minimum is at least 10 Mbps sustained. Amazon repeats that threshold in its Luna network troubleshooting guidance and its minimum internet requirements.

“Sustained” is the key word. A speed test showing a brief peak of 10 Mbps or more does not show whether your connection will maintain that speed during a game. Amazon says its “Network issues detected” message can mean the connection is fluctuating and is not consistently reaching 10 Mbps.

There is no basis here for naming a higher “ideal” speed as an official Luna requirement.

What to check if Luna warns about network issues
Start with the connection you have before considering a faster internet plan or new router. Amazon’s guidance focuses on consistency, local network setup, and competing traffic.
- Run a speed test, then check performance during play. Treat the test as a first check, not proof of a stable connection. If Luna displays a network warning, Amazon says the connection may be fluctuating below 10 Mbps.
- Try Ethernet if your device and router support it. Amazon recommends a wired network. Its help pages do not specify a cable category, and a cable does not increase the speed included in your internet plan.
- If you use dual-band Wi-Fi, try 5 GHz first. Amazon recommends trying the 5 GHz band in most households, switching bands if that does not help, and moving closer to the router.
- Reduce competing network use. Pause or limit household video streaming, downloads, game downloads, and backups while playing. Close apps using bandwidth on the device running Luna.
- Turn off a VPN or proxy for the session. Amazon identifies VPNs and proxies as possible sources of streaming problems.
- On iPhone or iPad, troubleshoot over Wi-Fi. Amazon recommends Wi-Fi rather than cellular for Luna troubleshooting on those devices.
Why speed-test results may not tell the whole story
A speed test reports performance during its brief test; Luna needs the connection to keep up throughout a session. A connection can meet the minimum at one moment and still fluctuate when Wi-Fi signal conditions change or other devices begin using the network. That is why Amazon’s warning is about consistently reaching 10 Mbps, not merely recording a peak at or above that number.

Mbps means megabits per second, the unit used for Amazon’s requirement. It is not the same as MB/s (megabytes per second); the two units should not be substituted when reading a speed-test result.
