While it is off, treat Apple Intelligence-dependent features as unavailable; turn it back on to start downloading the models again.
How to remove Apple Intelligence’s on-device models
Apple Support says that turning Apple Intelligence off removes its on-device models from the device. Its support instructions do not describe a separate manual model-deletion option. To remove the models, turn off Apple Intelligence in Settings.

Expect Apple Intelligence-dependent features to be unavailable while Apple Intelligence is off. Apple lists capabilities such as Writing Tools, summaries, image features, translation, Siri enhancements and notification features, but does not document the effect of model removal on each one separately or map every feature to on-device versus server-side processing.

That means it would be too broad to assume either that every feature keeps working because some processing may involve a server, or that every server-assisted feature stops in precisely the same way. The practical choice is between keeping Apple Intelligence enabled with its models on the device and turning it off, removing those models and giving up access to Apple Intelligence during that period. What happens when you turn it on again?
On a compatible, updated device, turn Apple Intelligence back on under Settings > Apple Intelligence & Siri. Apple says the on-device models begin downloading after setup. Download time varies; Apple recommends keeping the device connected to Wi-Fi and power for the fastest download experience.

How much storage will turning it off free?
Apple does not publish a per-device estimate of storage reclaimed by removing the models. Its stated storage figures are requirements, not guarantees of how much space a particular user will recover.

Check compatibility and availability before enabling it again
Apple Intelligence support and feature availability depend on the device, software release, language and region. Apple’s July 2026 compatibility information includes iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 16 or later models, iPad mini (A17 Pro) and M1-or-later iPads, Apple silicon Macs, and Apple Vision Pro for the version it covers. That is not a universal list for every later release, so check Apple’s current requirements before relying on a specific feature or model download.
