NBA 2K25’s online services are scheduled to end after December 31, 2026. From January 1, 2027, MyCAREER, MyTEAM, multiplayer and other features that need 2K’s servers will be unavailable, and players will no longer be able to earn Virtual Currency (VC). Owners can still redownload the game and play offline modes, including Play Now, MyNBA, The W and MyWNBA, according to 2K.
What changes on January 1, 2027?
2K says NBA 2K25 will be discontinued as of December 31, 2026, with online play unavailable from January 1, 2027. That includes multiplayer and online modes. Any other feature that depends on a connection to 2K’s servers will also stop working.

The announcement was published September 3, 2026 and updated October 2, 2026. 2K’s general service-status page says planned retirement dates can change, so the dates are announced plans rather than an unchangeable guarantee.
What happens to MyCAREER, MyTEAM and VC?
MyCAREER and MyTEAM will no longer be available after the shutdown, and players will no longer be able to earn VC. 2K does not promise an offline version of either mode or say that a MyCAREER player, MyTEAM collection or related progress will transfer to another mode. Do not count on existing builds, cards or saves being preserved or converted.

Which parts of NBA 2K25 remain playable offline?
2K says existing owners can redownload the game and play offline modes. Its game-specific shutdown notice names these modes:
- Play Now
- MyNBA
- The W
- MyWNBA
Features that need a server connection will not remain available. 2K specifically identifies multiplayer, Online Leagues and community sharing. The publisher’s status page also lists 2KU/Learn 2K among offline modes, but the newer game-specific notice does not include it; whether every connected subfeature will work offline is not established.

Can you buy or redownload NBA 2K25?
2K says the game will no longer be available for purchase as of October 30, 2026. That cutoff is separate from the end of online services: the stated shutdown date is December 31, 2026, with online play unavailable starting January 1, 2027.

If you already own the game, 2K says you will still be able to redownload it and play offline modes. Its notice does not spell out platform-store, account, licensing or regional conditions, so it is not a platform-by-platform or perpetual-access guarantee. Buying the game before it is delisted will not extend MyCAREER, MyTEAM or multiplayer beyond the announced service retirement.

What is not specified?
2K’s notices do not say what will happen to local save files, identify platform or regional exceptions, or detail the shutdown behavior of every individual subfeature. They also do not describe an offline MyCAREER or MyTEAM option. For service timing, 2K says planned retirement dates can be brought forward or extended; check its service-status page and the NBA 2K25 retirement notice for updates.
