When Electronic Arts retires the online services for College Football, server-dependent features stop working: Online Dynasty participation, matchmaking, cross-play, Ultimate Team services, online leaderboards and access to online data. Offline modes are not automatically erased, so an installed copy may still support Offline Dynasty and Play Now, subject to the game launching on your platform.
There is no documented shutdown date for College Football 25 or College Football 26. EA’s College Football 26 disclaimer says online features may be removed 30 days after EA posts a notice on its service-updates page.

What a server shutdown actually changes
A server retirement removes the services that run on Electronic Arts’ infrastructure. It does not, by itself, prove that every mode in the installed game disappears. EA’s general service policy says that, in some cases, a game can still be played offline after its online services are no longer available. The result depends on which services the title requires for launching a mode, saving progress or finding other players.

A mode designed to run locally can remain available, while a mode that reads an online profile or synchronizes a league cannot continue once that service is retired.

Offline Dynasty
Offline Dynasty is the clearest survivor because it is a local mode rather than a shared online league. EA’s support wording specifically says that an offline Dynasty cannot invite other players to the Dynasty, access online data or use cross-play. Those restrictions apply even while the servers are running; after retirement, they become permanent.
You should therefore treat Offline Dynasty as a separate save environment, not as a downloadable backup of an Online Dynasty. Its continued availability is expected, not an unconditional guarantee: the game must still launch, and the console or PC platform must continue to authorize the installed title.
Online Dynasty
Online Dynasty depends on EA’s services to maintain the shared league, synchronize schedules and results, handle invitations and provide online data. Once those services are retired, you should expect online participation and invitations to stop. Cross-play between supported platforms also ends because there is no longer a service coordinating the session.

EA’s published material does not promise that an Online Dynasty can be converted into an Offline Dynasty. It also does not establish that every online save will be downloadable before retirement. If a Dynasty matters to you long term, create a separate Offline Dynasty while the game is still operating rather than assuming the online league can be preserved later.

Play Now
Play Now is generally an offline mode. A normal matchup does not require the online league, marketplace or matchmaking infrastructure, so it is expected to remain playable after server retirement. The qualification is important for custom teams: a Team Builder team has to be imported while the Team Builder service is available.
Ultimate Team
Ultimate Team is service-dependent at several levels. Your account, collection or inventory, marketplace transactions and online games are tied to EA’s backend. When that service is retired, those features become unavailable together; owning a disc or having the game installed cannot recreate the account database or marketplace.
Road to the College Football Playoff, matchmaking and leaderboards
Road to the College Football Playoff and similar competitive modes require online matchmaking and server-side progression. They cannot function as intended without those services. Global leaderboards likewise depend on a central database, so rankings and leaderboard updates end when that database is retired.

Cross-play is not a local console feature that can continue independently. EA says it requires a copy of College Football 26, all relevant game updates, an EA account, an internet connection and a platform account on the chosen platform. Removing the online service removes the coordination layer, so cross-play is disabled even if both players still own the game.

What happens to Team Builder teams?
Team Builder has two distinct stages. Creating or importing content uses the online service, while playing a team that has already been imported can occur in offline Play Now and private Dynasty modes. EA’s Team Builder notice states that an internet connection and EA account are required, and that Team Builder content can be used in those offline modes.
- Import while the service operates. Sign in and complete the Team Builder import before any retirement notice takes effect.
- Confirm the team appears locally. Start Play Now or a private Dynasty and verify that the imported team is selectable. Do not rely solely on a cloud download center.
- Keep the local game installation intact. Deleting the installation or moving to a platform that cannot access the title may remove your practical access even though the team was previously imported.
Previously imported content may remain usable offline, but EA has not published a blanket guarantee that every Team Builder asset will survive every future platform, patch or licensing change. The safe assumption is that the import step must be finished before the service disappears.
Does owning the disc preserve the game?
A physical copy can be a sensible way to retain access to offline-capable modes, but it cannot restore retired EA services. The disc contains the game software; it does not contain the Online Dynasty server, Ultimate Team inventory, marketplace, matchmaking service or global leaderboard database.
Disc ownership also is not an absolute offline guarantee. The installed title must still launch, the console must accept the installation and any required platform entitlement, and the mode must not depend on a service that has been removed. A digital purchase is subject to the same service limitation: ownership does not turn an online feature into an offline one.

For a long-term offline setup, keep the game installed, retain any updates your platform requires for launching it and avoid deleting locally available Dynasty or Team Builder data. Those steps reduce dependence on a future download, but they do not create a supported way to access online features after retirement.
What happens to saves and online data?
Offline saves and online saves should be treated differently. An Offline Dynasty is expected to remain usable because its play does not require a shared EA session. An Online Dynasty, Ultimate Team inventory and other online profiles rely on server-side data. When the service is shut down, access to that data and the functions built around it end.
There is no published promise in the available College Football notices that an Online Dynasty can be exported, that Ultimate Team inventories will be converted to local files or that online progression will be preserved in another mode. Do not assume that a screenshot, console backup or physical disc contains the complete online league or account state.
When could the shutdown happen?
No title-specific shutdown date has been published for College Football 25 or College Football 26 in the available official material. The worldwide launch date for College Football 26 was July 10, 2025, but that date does not establish an end-of-service schedule.

EA’s College Football 26 disclaimer says online features may be removed 30 days after EA posts a notice on its service-updates page. That is a notice window, not a guaranteed lifespan or a promise that every feature will remain available for the entire period. EA also says older online services can become infeasible when they typically account for fewer than 1% of peak online players across all EA titles; that figure is a general policy threshold, not a forecast for College Football.
For an actual date, look for a formal notice on EA’s service-updates page and distinguish it from a temporary outage listed on the server-status page. An outage can interrupt play without ending the service; a retirement notice signals a permanent change to the affected features.
How to prepare before services are retired
- Start an Offline Dynasty. If you want a league you can continue alone, create it in Offline Dynasty rather than relying only on an Online Dynasty.
- Import Team Builder content. Complete every import you care about and test the teams in Play Now or a private Dynasty.
- Finish time-sensitive online activities. Online leagues, matchmaking seasons, leaderboard pushes and Ultimate Team transactions will not be available after retirement.
- Document important information. Keep local notes or screenshots of rosters, settings and league history. These records are not a playable backup, but they preserve information that may otherwise remain online.
- Keep the installation available. A disc or installed digital copy can help with offline access, provided the platform still launches the title.
- Monitor official notices. Check EA’s service-updates and server-status pages for the distinction between a scheduled retirement and a temporary fault.
What you may see after the servers go offline
Offline modes launch normally
This is the expected outcome for Offline Dynasty and ordinary Play Now. Continue using those modes locally, with no invitations, cross-play or online-data access.

That is expected when the mode requires an EA account session, matchmaking, inventory or a shared league. Reinstalling the game or using a disc cannot recreate the retired backend.
A custom team is missing
Check whether the team was imported before retirement. Team Builder downloads that were never completed may no longer be possible once the service is removed. Previously imported teams may still work in the offline modes EA identifies, subject to the installed game and platform.
The game itself will not start
Offline availability is conditional on launch behavior. Confirm that the title remains installed and that the platform accepts your entitlement. If the platform requires an online license check or a title update, the result can differ from one platform edition to another; no universal offline-launch guarantee has been published.
Bottom line for College Football players
Plan for a split outcome. Offline Dynasty and Play Now are the modes most likely to remain, while Online Dynasty, Ultimate Team, matchmaking, cross-play, leaderboards and online data end with the services that support them. Import Team Builder teams before any retirement notice, keep an offline Dynasty separate from online leagues and do not treat a disc as a replacement for EA’s servers. Because no shutdown date for College Football 25 or 26 has been announced, rely on EA’s formal service-update notice rather than rumors or a temporary outage.
