On an Amazon Echo speaker, a pulsing green light means an incoming call. A spinning green light means a call or Drop In is active. If the green light appears unexpectedly, end the call, check Alexa voice history for a misheard command, or turn off Drop In or Communications for that device.
What the green light pattern means
| Green-light pattern | Meaning | What to do |

| Spinning or cycling green | An active call or Drop In | Say “Alexa, hang up” to end it if you do not want it to continue. |
Amazon describes the incoming-call pattern as pulsing green; its developer indicator guidance uses “cycling green” for an active call. The animation can vary by Echo model, so the pattern descriptions are more useful than expecting every device to look identical. What to do when the green light is on
If it is pulsing or flashing
Treat it as an incoming call. Alexa may announce who is calling; you can ask Alexa to answer or ignore the call.

If it is spinning or cycling and no call is expected
- Say “Alexa, hang up.”
- Check Alexa voice history to see whether Alexa misheard a request and started a call or Drop In.
- If you do not want Drop In on that Echo, turn off Drop In for the device.
- If needed, turn off Communications for that individual Alexa device.

Why an Echo with a screen may show a green bar
On an Echo device with a screen, the green status may appear as a bar rather than a ring. Amazon says the bar can mean a call or Drop In is still active after you leave the call screen. End the call by voice if it is not meant to remain active. Amazon’s screen-device indicator help covers this display.
