IP64 protects the Acer Sospiro A70 against dust ingress and splashing water from any direction. In practical use, that means the phone should tolerate ordinary rain, dusty environments and accidental splashes. It is not certified for immersion, swimming, shower use or forceful water jets, so “water-resistant” is accurate while “waterproof” is not.
What IP64 means on the Acer Sospiro A70
IP64 is an enclosure-protection code defined by IEC 60529. The two digits describe different hazards:
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
- 6 is the solid-particle rating: the enclosure is dust-tight under the standard test.
- 4 is the water rating: the enclosure is protected against splashing water from any direction, with no harmful effect under the test conditions.
The code describes resistance of the phone’s enclosure. It does not certify that every component is immune to liquid damage, nor does it promise protection from drops, crushed screens, corrosion or a damaged seal.

What the first digit, 6, protects against
Dust-tight enclosure protection
A level-6 solids rating is the highest dust-protection level in the IP code. Acer’s IP table describes total protection against dust ingress, including testing with continuous airflow. TOYO Electric’s IEC 60529 explanation states that, for IP64, “6” means dust cannot enter and identifies it as a dust-proof type.

For an A70 owner, this is useful in places such as a dry, dusty commute, a workshop, a beach path on a windless day or a household environment where fine dust is present. Dust resistance also reduces the chance that particles will reach internal electronics through the enclosure during normal use.
What level 6 does not mean
Dust-tight does not mean the phone can be buried in sand, subjected to abrasive grit or cleaned with compressed air. A certified test is controlled; real-world particles can scratch glass, clog openings or damage a port even when they do not penetrate the sealed enclosure. Keep the charging port and speaker openings free of debris, and do not force visible grit into them.
What the second digit, 4, protects against
Rain and ordinary splashes
Level 4 is the splash-protection level. The European Commission Joint Research Centre’s IEC 60529 table defines it as protection against splashing water and says water splashed against the enclosure from any direction must have no harmful effects. This is why the A70 can be used cautiously in normal rain or when a drink splashes onto the exterior.

“From any direction” does not mean unlimited water exposure. The rating concerns splashes delivered during the standard test, not a continuous stream, high-pressure spray or prolonged wetting. Wipe the phone dry rather than deliberately testing its resistance.
How level 4 differs from stronger water ratings
| IP water digit | Protection described in the cited tables | What that means for an A70 owner |
|---|---|---|
| 4 | Splashing water from any direction, with no harmful effect in the test | The A70’s certified water level; suitable for ordinary splashes and rain, not immersion |
| 5 | Water jets | A higher jet-resistance category than IP64; the A70 is not identified as IP65 |
| 7–8 | Immersion categories | These are the categories associated with immersion; IP64 does not provide them |
The table shows why an IP64 phone should not be treated like a device with an immersion rating. A higher second digit is not implied by the first digit: dust-tight protection and water-jet or immersion protection are separate tests.
Is the Acer Sospiro A70 waterproof?
No. Notebookcheck’s launch report, published October 14, 2026, describes the A70 as “IP64-certified, meaning it is protected against rain but is not fully waterproof.” That wording is the safest everyday interpretation: rain and splashes are within the stated protection, while submersion is outside it.

Do not take the phone swimming, leave it in a bathtub, use it under a shower or intentionally hold it beneath a tap. A toilet, pool, sink or puddle can expose the device to immersion, movement through water and contaminants that are not covered by the level-4 test.

Walking in rain
Light or ordinary rain is the clearest use case supported by IP64. Keep the phone’s ports facing downward when possible, avoid extended exposure, and dry the exterior before connecting a cable. Heavy wind-driven rain can deliver more water and pressure than a controlled splash test, so place the A70 in a pocket or bag when conditions worsen.
Accidental drink or sink splashes
A brief splash on the exterior is consistent with the rating. Pick up the phone, disconnect any cable, wipe it with a soft dry cloth and let moisture around openings evaporate. Do not shake it aggressively or push a tissue, swab or tool into a port.

Dusty travel or outdoor work
The level-6 rating is designed to prevent dust ingress under the specified test. You can use the A70 in a dusty setting, but protect it from loose sand and abrasive particles that can damage the screen, buttons or port mechanically. Clean the outside with a dry, lint-free cloth rather than blasting it with air.
Shower, hose or pressure washer
These are poor matches for IP64. A shower or hose supplies a sustained stream, while a pressure washer adds substantially greater force. The cited tables distinguish level 4 splashes from level 5 water jets; the A70 is documented only at level 4.

Sea water, chlorinated water and chemicals
IEC 60529 protection is not a blanket approval for salt water, pool chemicals, detergents, solvents or beverages. The JRC explains that an IP rating grades enclosure resistance to dust or liquids and does not establish every other product specification. Chemicals and dissolved salts can corrode contacts or leave conductive residue even if water does not immediately enter.

Limits that remain even when the phone is undamaged
- Charging while wet: Do not connect a charger until the port and cable are completely dry. IP64 does not make electrical connections safe in the presence of moisture.
- Cracked housing or screen: A crack, bent frame or missing part can create a path for water. The original test result cannot be assumed after physical damage.
- Repairs and replacement parts: Opening the phone can disturb adhesives, gaskets or port seals. Unless Acer explicitly confirms otherwise, do not assume the original rating survives a repair.
- Wear over time: Repeated flexing, impact, heat and aging can reduce sealing performance. The code is not a lifetime guarantee.
- Drop resistance: IP64 says nothing about surviving a fall. A phone can remain dust- and splash-resistant while its display or frame is damaged by impact.
- Liquid-damage coverage: The rating does not determine warranty terms. Check Acer’s warranty documentation for the sales region and edition of your phone.
How to use the A70 safely in rain
- Check the phone first. Do not rely on the rating if the frame, back, screen or port is cracked, loose or visibly damaged.
- Reduce exposure. Use the phone briefly, keep it under clothing or a bag when possible, and avoid placing it on wet surfaces.
- Keep openings away from direct flow. Hold the display upward or angle the ports downward instead of pointing them into falling water.
- Dry the exterior. Wipe the phone with a clean, soft cloth as soon as you are indoors.
- Wait before wired charging. Inspect the USB port and cable; only connect them after all visible moisture has gone.
- Stop if behavior changes. If the screen, speaker, microphone, buttons or charging function behave abnormally, power the phone down and seek qualified service rather than repeatedly testing it.
What to do after a splash
- Move the A70 away from the liquid and disconnect its charger or accessories.
- Remove the case if it is trapping moisture, then blot the exterior without pushing liquid toward openings.
- Keep the phone in a dry, ventilated place and allow it to dry naturally.
- Do not use a hair dryer, heater, oven, compressed air or rice. Heat and forced airflow can move moisture or damage components.
- Do not insert paper, metal or cotton swabs into the charging port.
- If the liquid was salty, sugary, soapy or chemically contaminated, arrange professional inspection even if the phone appears to work; residue can cause later corrosion.
A brief exterior splash and a submerged phone are not equivalent incidents. If the A70 was underwater, exposed to a powerful stream or filled with liquid, turn it off and obtain service instead of relying on the IP64 label.
Does the included case or screen protector increase the rating?
Acer Mobile LATAM’s product page identifies the A70 and lists a 6.67-inch display, 5000 mAh battery, 256 GB storage, an included rigid silicone/PVC case and a screen protector. Those accessories can help against scratches and some everyday impacts, but the product information does not claim that they upgrade IP64 to a higher IP level.
A case may cover part of the exterior, yet it is not a tested replacement for the phone’s sealed enclosure. A screen protector also does not seal the charging port, speaker or buttons. Treat the handset as IP64 with or without those included accessories.
How IP64 testing should shape your expectations
An IP code is a standardized test classification, not a promise that every real-world exposure is harmless. The enclosure is evaluated under defined laboratory conditions, and the result applies to the device as tested. Orientation, duration, water temperature, pressure, manufacturing variation and later wear can differ in everyday use.
The rating also does not answer questions about data loss, display operation while wet, biometric sensors, audio quality after a splash or the phone’s warranty. Those issues require the manufacturer’s technical and warranty documents for the relevant region. The JRC specifically cautions that an IP rating does not establish all other product specifications.
Quick decision guide
| Situation | IP64 interpretation | Recommended action |
|---|---|---|
| Fine dust in normal outdoor use | Within the solids rating | Use normally, but keep abrasive grit out of ports and wipe the exterior dry |
| Light or ordinary rain | Within the stated splash protection | Limit exposure, then dry the phone before charging |
| Brief accidental splash | Consistent with level 4 | Disconnect accessories and dry naturally |
| Shower, hose or pressure washer | Outside the documented level-4 protection | Keep the phone away from sustained or forceful streams |
| Pool, bath, sink or puddle submersion | Not covered by IP64 | Do not submerge; seek service if it happens |
| Salt water, detergent or sugary drink | IP code does not establish chemical resistance | Remove from exposure, dry it and arrange inspection if contaminated |
| Cracked frame or post-repair phone | Original rating may no longer apply | Avoid liquid and confirm sealing with authorized service |
The practical answer
The Acer Sospiro A70’s IP64 rating gives it two specific protections: the “6” indicates a dust-tight enclosure, and the “4” indicates resistance to splashing water from any direction. That makes normal rain and accidental splashes reasonable when the phone is intact and handled carefully. It does not provide immersion protection, water-jet protection or a guarantee against chemicals, wet charging, impact damage or a compromised seal.
