Start playback in the video app, tap its AirPlay control, and choose HomeView if it appears. Apple describes HomeView as supporting compatible third-party audio and video apps from a paired iPhone, not as a universal mirror for every app or stream. If HomeView is not offered, use the app’s documented HomeView experience or try Screen Mirroring only for content that permits it.
What you need for HomeView video playback
HomeView video support is compatibility-based. The source is your iPhone or iPad, and the receiving HomeView must be running current software. Apple’s published requirements list an iPhone with iOS 27.2 or later, or an iPad with iPadOS 27.2 or later, together with Wi-Fi internet access. Check the current requirements at Apple’s HomeView specifications.

| Requirement | What to check | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Source device | iPhone on iOS 27.2 or later, or iPad on iPadOS 27.2 or later | These are the software versions Apple lists for HomeView. |
| HomeView software | Install the latest software offered for your HomeView | Older firmware may not expose newer compatible-app handoffs or receiver behavior. |
| Network | Connect the iPhone or iPad and HomeView to the same Wi-Fi network | Standard AirPlay discovery depends on both devices being on the same network. |
| Pairing | Use the iPhone or iPad paired with HomeView for the compatible-app experience | Apple describes third-party app support as coming from the paired mobile device. |
| App support | Use an app that exposes AirPlay or has a documented HomeView-compatible path | Some apps do not support AirPlay, and protected streams can impose additional limits. |
Having a recent iPhone, a fast connection, or an AirPlay-capable television elsewhere in the house does not guarantee that every video app will appear as a HomeView destination. The app, the particular video, the mobile operating system and HomeView software all have to permit the route you are trying to use.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minutePrepare the iPhone, iPad and HomeView
- Update the source device. On an iPhone or iPad, open Settings, choose General, then Software Update. Install an update if the device is below iOS 27.2 or iPadOS 27.2, or if a newer release is available.
- Update HomeView. Use HomeView’s software-update control and allow the installation to finish before testing playback. A receiver that is still restarting or applying an update may not be discoverable.
- Confirm Wi-Fi membership. In Settings > Wi-Fi on the iPhone or iPad, note the network name. Confirm that HomeView is connected to that same network rather than a guest network, a second access point with client isolation, or a mobile hotspot that separates devices.
- Use the paired mobile device. If a household has several iPhones and iPads, begin with the one associated with HomeView. A different device may be able to use ordinary AirPlay elsewhere but still lack the HomeView-compatible app handoff.
- Check the app itself. Update the video app from the App Store, sign in if required, and open the title you want to watch. AirPlay controls can be hidden until a video is actively playing.
Do not treat the “up to nine simultaneous video feeds” figure associated with HomeView’s Home Camera face as an allowance for AirPlay app streams. That figure applies to the camera view, not to video sent from an iPhone or iPad.

- 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
- 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
- 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
- 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
- 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)
Play a video through the app’s AirPlay control
This is the preferred route because the app can hand the stream to a supported receiver instead of attempting to reproduce the entire phone display.
- Open the video app on the paired iPhone or iPad and start the movie, programme or clip.
- Find the AirPlay button. It commonly looks like a rectangle with a triangle at the bottom. Its position varies by app. In Photos, for example, Apple notes that AirPlay may be behind the Share control rather than shown beside the playback controls.
- Tap AirPlay and wait for the destination list.
- Select HomeView if it is listed. Playback should move to HomeView while the iPhone or iPad remains the controller.
- Use the source app for controls. Pause, seek, change the title or end playback from the app unless HomeView provides a separate supported control surface.
If HomeView is absent from the list, do not assume that a setting is missing. The current app, the specific title or HomeView software may not support that handoff. Check the app’s help documentation or App Store description for an Apple receiver or HomeView-compatible version. Repeatedly tapping the icon cannot make an unsupported destination appear.

- SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
- HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
- BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
- COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
- INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.
AirPlay button and Screen Mirroring are different
An app-level AirPlay handoff sends supported playback to a receiver. Screen Mirroring instead attempts to reproduce the iPhone or iPad display, including the app interface. The two controls are independent: an app can expose one, both or neither.

Use Screen Mirroring when the content allows it
- Open Control Center on the iPhone or iPad. On a device with Face ID, swipe down from the top-right corner; on a device with a Home button, swipe up from the bottom edge.
- Tap Screen Mirroring.
- Select an available AirPlay receiver. Choose HomeView only if it appears.
- Return to the video app and play the content.
Mirroring is a fallback, not a way to bypass app licensing. A service can allow normal playback on the iPhone while blocking a mirrored or externally displayed image. You may see a black screen, an error, audio without video or an immediate stop. In that situation, end mirroring and use the app’s supported AirPlay control or its HomeView-compatible experience.

What to do when the AirPlay icon is missing
The icon never appears
- Start a video rather than browsing the catalogue; some apps reveal AirPlay only during playback.
- Look under Share, an overflow menu or the player’s additional controls. Apple specifically notes that placement differs between apps.
- Update the app and check its help page. Apple states that some video apps might not support AirPlay at all.
- Try a different, clearly supported title only as a diagnostic. A result that changes by title indicates a content or rights restriction rather than a HomeView network fault.
HomeView does not appear in the destination list
- Confirm that both devices are connected to the same Wi-Fi network and that neither is isolated by a guest-network policy.
- Verify that HomeView and the iPhone or iPad have current software, including the iOS 27.2 or iPadOS 27.2 minimum Apple lists.
- Make sure you are using the iPhone or iPad paired with HomeView.
- Close and reopen the video app, then retry its AirPlay control.
- Restart the iPhone or iPad and HomeView if the receiver remains undiscoverable after the checks above.
If HomeView is visible to another AirPlay-capable device but not to this app, the app’s support matrix is the more likely explanation. A receiver list is built for the current source, app and content; it is not a complete inventory of everything HomeView can ever display.
The video plays on the iPhone but not on HomeView
Treat this first as an app-support issue. HomeView’s official description promises compatible third-party audio and video apps from the iPhone, not universal playback of every iPhone video app. Confirm that the app documents support for an Apple receiver or HomeView, and use its own AirPlay button rather than assuming Screen Mirroring is equivalent.

You get a black screen, audio only or an error
Protected or otherwise unsupported video may be deliberately blocked when sent to an external display. Test the app’s documented handoff, stop mirroring if it is active, and update both the app and operating system. Do not disable security features or install an unverified add-on to force playback; such a workaround would not establish official compatibility.
The picture has black bars or the layout looks wrong
A phone app may be designed for a tall mobile aspect ratio while HomeView uses a different display shape. That can produce unused space, a cropped interface or controls arranged differently without indicating a hardware fault. Use the app’s playback settings if it offers an aspect-ratio or full-screen option. If it does not, the layout is a limitation of that app’s rendering path rather than something AirPlay settings can universally correct.

AirPlay works to Apple TV but not to HomeView
That result does not prove HomeView is malfunctioning. Apple documents AirPlay multiroom audio involving HomePod, Apple TV 4K and compatible speakers, while it describes HomeView’s third-party video-app support separately. Use the receiver and app combination Apple explicitly lists for the content you are watching; do not infer universal HomeView video mirroring from success on another receiver.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Choosing the right playback path
| Your situation | Try first | What the result means |
|---|---|---|
| The app shows an AirPlay button and HomeView is listed | Select HomeView from the app’s AirPlay menu | This is the supported handoff path for that app and setup. |
| The app shows AirPlay, but HomeView is not listed | Check network, software and pairing; then consult the app’s support information | The app or current HomeView software may not support this destination. |
| No in-app AirPlay button, but HomeView is an available mirroring receiver | Try Control Center > Screen Mirroring | Playback may still be blocked by the app or title. |
| Mirroring starts but video is black or stops | Stop mirroring and use the app’s supported handoff | The content likely restricts mirrored or external playback. |
| Video works on iPhone only | Check whether the app documents HomeView or Apple receiver support | Local playback does not establish receiver compatibility. |
How to stop AirPlay or mirroring
Stop an app-level AirPlay session
Open the source app’s playback controls, tap the AirPlay button, and select the iPhone or iPad. The stream returns to the mobile device. If the app has a separate “disconnect” or receiver control, use that control instead of force-quitting the app.
Stop Screen Mirroring
Open Control Center, tap Screen Mirroring, then choose Stop Mirroring. Ending mirroring does not delete the app or sign you out; it only ends the display session.
Limits worth understanding before you troubleshoot
- Compatibility is per app and sometimes per title. A video app can support AirPlay generally while restricting a particular live event, rental or protected programme.
- HomeView is not automatically a universal receiver. Apple’s wording is limited to compatible third-party audio and video apps from the paired iPhone.
- AirPlay discovery is network-dependent. A cellular connection, different Wi-Fi name or isolated guest network can prevent the receiver from appearing even when both devices have internet access.
- Mirroring is not a licensing workaround. Screen Mirroring can be unavailable or produce no usable video when the app prohibits external display.
- Audio documentation is separate from video documentation. References to HomePod, Apple TV 4K and compatible speakers describe audio arrangements and should not be read as a promise that every video stream can be sent to HomeView.
- There is no published universal performance guarantee. Apple has not established a single frame-rate, latency or quality result for every app-and-network combination, so expectations should be based on the app’s documented support.
A quick pre-play checklist
- HomeView is powered on and has finished any software update.
- The paired iPhone or iPad meets the iOS 27.2 or iPadOS 27.2 requirement.
- Both devices use the same Wi-Fi network.
- The video app is current and playback has started.
- You checked the app’s Share or overflow menu if the AirPlay icon is not beside the player.
- You selected HomeView from the app’s AirPlay list when it was offered.
- You used Screen Mirroring only as a secondary test, not as a method to bypass protected playback.
- You stopped the session from the same control that started it: the app’s AirPlay menu or Control Center’s Screen Mirroring panel.
Bottom line for iPhone and iPad owners
Open the video app, start playback, tap AirPlay and choose HomeView when Apple and the app present it as a destination. Keep the source device paired, updated and on the same Wi-Fi network as HomeView. If the icon or receiver is missing, troubleshoot discovery and software once, then treat the absence as an app-compatibility boundary rather than assuming every iPhone stream can be mirrored. Screen Mirroring can help with supported content, but it cannot override an app’s restrictions.
