For the Steam version of Acts of Blood, an Xbox-layout controller is the safest default. Why the recommendation is provisional
Acts of Blood is described as a third-person beat ’em up built around fast hand-to-hand combat. Its Steam listing indicates that the game is not yet in its final release state. A Steam Community announcement documents a dodge change from Space on the keyboard to LT on a controller. That example demonstrates two things: the game has controller-specific actions, and the mapping can be revised during development.

Do not buy a controller solely because a current preview, video or community post shows a particular button. Recheck the controls in the release build and after substantial updates.

Many PC games display A, B, X and Y prompts. An Xbox-layout pad puts those letters on the face buttons exactly where the prompt expects them. This does not make the buttons faster, and it does not prove that the game was designed around Xbox hardware; it simply avoids mentally translating a letter prompt to a symbol.
Choose the right physical features for a beat ’em up
For a third-person, hand-to-hand game, prioritize a comfortable directional control, reliable face buttons and triggers that you can hold without strain. A standard two-stick pad gives you the expected arrangement for movement, camera control and action inputs. The evidence does not identify a required D-pad type or trigger travel, so treat those as comfort decisions rather than performance facts.
Can you use a PS5 DualSense or another PlayStation controller?
Yes, PlayStation Controllers are explicitly listed on the official Steam page, and SteamDB records both DualShock and DualSense metadata for the app. That makes a DualSense a defensible choice for a player who already owns one; you do not need to replace it merely to play Acts of Blood.

Connect the controller before launching the game, then verify that movement and every action register. If the game shows Xbox letters while you hold a PlayStation pad, use the physical position of the requested button rather than assuming the printed symbol must match. Whether prompts switch to PlayStation symbols is a software behavior, not a guarantee contained in the support label.

Do you need an arcade stick for a beat ’em up?

- Connect the pad before launching. For USB, plug it directly into the PC. For Bluetooth, pair it in the operating system first and confirm that the controller appears as connected.
- Open the game’s Steam page. Confirm that the page still shows “Full Controller Support” and lists your controller family. The live listing is the authoritative place to check for changes.
- Start the game and test the basics. From the title screen or options menu, verify movement, camera control, light and heavy attacks, jump or dodge if present, pause and menu navigation.
- Check the control display. Look for a Controls, Input, Controller or Key Bindings section. Record any action whose assignment differs from what you expect; development builds may use different mappings.
- Use Steam Input only when necessary. In the game’s Steam properties, open the Controller section and review the per-game setting. If native input works, leave the configuration simple. If the pad is not detected or buttons are wrong, try Steam Input’s default layout and test again.
- Restart after changing the input layer. Some games read the controller mode only when they launch. Close and reopen Acts of Blood after changing a Steam Input setting.
- Test in a safe area. Do not judge a remapping while surrounded by enemies. Confirm that every essential action works and that pressing one button does not trigger an unintended second command.
Keep the game’s own control screen as the final authority. A community announcement records one dodge mapping as Space on keyboard and LT on controller, but that assignment can change as development continues.
Will the button prompts match your controller?

Choose an Xbox-layout pad when you are starting from zero
