What the bonfire does—and does not do

Access to the Fortress
The bonfire is inside the Fortress, in a side room reached from the Chapel area or by a route from the Ramparts. If you have not unlocked access to the Fortress, the sword cannot be reached yet.
Fire Transmutation
The required action is an ability cast, not a conventional button prompt on the flames. Bring the Fire Transmutation ability with you. The target is the sword embedded in the bonfire. The guides do not describe a separate switch, lever, or alternate object that can substitute for the sword.
Finding the castle bonfire
Chapel route
From the Chapel lantern, descend into the underground section. The route passes through the drainage or sewer area and a traversal segment before returning to the Fortress interior. After the relevant doors and stair descents, take the left-side route and enter the side room. The sword standing in the bonfire is the visual landmark that confirms you have reached the correct location.
- Start at the Chapel lantern in the Fortress.
- Go down into the underground drainage route.
- Continue through the sewer and traversal section.
- Pass through the doors and descend the required stairs.
- Take the left-side path after the stair sequence.
- Enter the side room containing the sword planted in the bonfire.
Ramparts route
A second path from the Ramparts is also reported to converge on the same room. The exact approach differs, but the destination is identical: look for the side room with the sword embedded in the fire. If you arrive from the Ramparts, you do not need to search for a second bonfire elsewhere in the Fortress.

How to recognize the correct room
Do not use the presence of fire alone as your navigation test. The defining landmark is the sword visibly planted in the bonfire. The interaction is tied to that blade, so a room with a brazier, lantern, or unrelated flame effect is not enough. If you cannot identify the sword, retrace the Chapel or Ramparts route instead of repeatedly casting in another area.
How to ignite it correctly
Once you are in front of the sword, perform the interaction in this order:
- Stand close enough to the bonfire for the sword to be clearly targetable.
- Equip or select Fire Transmutation.
- Aim at the sword itself, not at a wall, floor, or unrelated flame effect.
- Cast the ability and allow the animation to finish.
- Watch for the flame effect and the Frenzied Flame trophy or achievement notification.
The important distinction is the target. The documented procedure treats the sword as the object being transmuted. Merely touching the fire, attacking near it, or attempting to interact with another object in the room does not satisfy the requirement.
How to verify that the objective counted

The fire may not provide a dramatic permanent transformation after the cast. That does not mean the trigger failed. The meaningful change is the external trophy or achievement record. Treat the notification, or the corresponding entry in your platform list, as the authoritative result rather than waiting for a chest, dialogue, map icon, or new interaction prompt.

If nothing happens after the cast
A missing notification usually points to either the wrong target or the wrong room rather than to a hidden follow-up condition. Work through these checks before leaving the Fortress.
Confirm the target
Reposition so the sword embedded in the bonfire is under your aim. The required target is the sword, not the surrounding brazier or a nearby environmental flame. Cast again only after the ability is clearly directed at the blade.
Confirm the ability
Check that you selected Fire Transmutation. The documented trigger is ability-based, so an ordinary attack or another fire-related action will not substitute for it.

Confirm the room
Compare the surroundings with the route description: this is a side room reached through the Fortress underground path, with the sword visibly planted in the bonfire. If you cannot see that sword, you have not reached the documented interaction point.
Allow the animation to complete
Do not interrupt the cast or move away immediately. Wait for the flame effect and give the platform time to display the trophy notification. The guides do not identify a separate delay, but finishing the ability animation removes the most straightforward execution error.

Is Frenzied Flame missable?
One current walkthrough states that the objective remains available after the final boss because previously visited areas can still be explored in free roam. What to do after the trophy appears
Once Frenzied Flame is recorded, you can leave the side room and continue with whatever exploration or story activity remains. There is no documented follow-up marker to chase and no new boss encounter that must be cleared in that room.
If you were visiting the Fortress specifically for completion cleanup, update your personal checklist and move to the next objective. The meaningful state change is recorded outside the room: your platform marks Frenzied Flame as earned. The absence of a new item or quest is not evidence that the cast failed if the notification has already appeared.
