What Cards Are in the MTG Foundations Commander Decks? Complete 2026 Decklists

Magic: The Gathering Foundations has five monocolor Commander decks. They are Calling All Angels (white, led by Giada, Font of Hope), Keen Engineering (blue, led by Sai, Master Thopterist), Wretched Ranks (black, led by Ghoulcaller Gisa), Reign of Dragons (red, led by Lathliss, Dragon Queen), and Tramplesaurus Rex (green, led by Ghalta, Primal Hunger). Each is a ready-to-play 100-card deck with a traditional foil borderless face commander, 99 non-foil cards, 10 double-sided tokens, a reference card, and a deck box.

Wizards of the Coast released the decks on October 2, 2026, through local game stores, TCGplayer, and Amazon. The lists are designed to introduce Commander to new players while giving each deck a distinct color and strategy.

Foundations Commander decks at a glance

Deck Color Commander Strategy Basic lands
Calling All Angels White Giada, Font of Hope Angels and flying creatures 32 Plains
Keen Engineering Blue Sai, Master Thopterist Artifacts, Thopters, and card advantage 34 Islands
Wretched Ranks Black Ghoulcaller Gisa Zombies, graveyard recursion, and death triggers 33 Swamps
Reign of Dragons Red Lathliss, Dragon Queen Dragons, Treasure, and damage payoffs 32 Mountains
Tramplesaurus Rex Green Ghalta, Primal Hunger Large creatures, mana acceleration, and combat pressure 32 Forests

All five decks are single-color products, so their cards, basic lands, and first upgrades stay within one color identity. The most visible differences are the commander’s play pattern, the creature tribe or artifact theme, the number of basic lands, and the included token mix.

How the five decks differ

The Foundations Commander lineup is not one deck with five interchangeable commanders. Each name is a separate sealed product with its own 100-card configuration, mana base, token sheet, and game plan. The monocolor construction makes the decks easy to identify at the table and gives a new player a straightforward way to learn one color’s usual strengths.

  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.

  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
  • Calling All Angels is the white flying-creature option. Giada, Font of Hope heads a list built around Angels, life support, anthem effects, and removal.
  • Keen Engineering is the blue artifact engine. Sai, Master Thopterist rewards artifact play with Thopter production while the deck supplies card-advantage and protection effects.
  • Wretched Ranks is the black Zombie and graveyard deck. Ghoulcaller Gisa points the list toward sacrifice, recursion, and value from creatures dying.
  • Reign of Dragons is the red top-end deck. Lathliss, Dragon Queen supports a large Dragon package, Treasure production, and damage payoffs.
  • Tramplesaurus Rex is the green power deck. Ghalta, Primal Hunger is backed by mana creatures, cost reduction, oversized bodies, and combat finishers.

That distinction matters when choosing a first product. A player who wants evasive attacks will have a very different first few turns with Calling All Angels than with Tramplesaurus Rex, even though both are creature-focused. Likewise, Keen Engineering asks you to sequence artifacts and protect an engine, while Wretched Ranks asks you to plan around your graveyard and sacrifice outlets.

What comes in a Foundations Commander deck?

  • One ready-to-play 100-card Commander deck.
  • One traditional foil borderless face commander.
  • 99 non-foil cards, for 100 cards total when combined with the foil commander.
  • 10 non-foil double-sided tokens.
  • One reference card.
  • One deck box.

The decks are sealed products rather than a single shared Foundations list: each name above is a separate deck with its own commander and complete 100-card configuration. The commander is presented as the traditional foil borderless face card, while the remaining 99 cards are non-foil. The tokens are double-sided, so one physical token can represent the two listed faces; keep the full token set with the deck when storing or trading it.

Reading the decklists correctly

Each list below names the commander first, followed by the other cards in the 100-card configuration and then the basic-land count. A line such as “32 Plains” means 32 copies of that basic land, not one card with a quantity of 32 printed on it. Nonbasic lands are listed individually, including utility lands such as War Room, Bonders’ Enclave, or Rogue’s Passage.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The basic-land totals are not identical. Keen Engineering has the largest basic package with 34 Islands. Calling All Angels, Reign of Dragons, and Tramplesaurus Rex each have 32 basic lands, while Wretched Ranks has 33 Swamps. These figures should not be mistaken for total land counts, because every deck also includes the nonbasic lands shown in its list.

Tokens

Calling All Angels has the most explicit Angel density of the five products. Its support cards cover several white lessons at once: creature-based pressure, life total support, board-wide bonuses, spot removal, and sweepers such as Austere Command, Cleansing Nova, and Day of Judgment. The token mix also reflects a deck that can produce both Angels and the card-drawing Clue and Spirit faces.

Keen Engineering contains the largest basic-land count, but its identity is defined by artifacts rather than by Islands alone. Etherium Sculptor, Foundry Inspector, Chief of the Foundry, and Vedalken Archmage reinforce the central engine, while Counterspell, Negate, Aetherize, and Propaganda show the defensive side of the blue plan. Buried Ruin, Darksteel Citadel, Foundry of the Consuls, Lonely Sandbar, and Remote Isle give the mana base utility beyond basic lands.

Tokens

  • 8 Zombie // Zombie Knight
  • 2 Zombie // The Monarch helper tokens

Wretched Ranks is the most overtly graveyard-focused list. Its Zombie lords and makers include Cemetery Reaper, Death Baron, Diregraf Colossus, Lord of the Undead, and Undead Warchief, while cards such as Gravecrawler, Oversold Cemetery, Eternal Taskmaster, and Undead Butler support repeated use of creatures. The eight Zombie // Zombie Knight tokens match that board-building emphasis, and the two Monarch helper faces support the deck’s card-advantage theme.

Reign of Dragons combines the clearest tribal payoff package with a Treasure subtheme. Dragon Tempest, Scourge of Valkas, Warstorm Surge, and the different Treasure // Dragon token faces show how the deck turns those large creatures into immediate pressure.

Which deck is best for a new Commander player?

There is no single objectively best choice; each deck teaches a different introductory pattern. Choose the play experience you want rather than treating the names as a ranking.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
If you want to… Start with… Why
Play a flying creature and life-support strategy Calling All Angels Giada leads an Angel-centered white deck with board-wide support and removal.
Create creatures while casting artifacts Keen Engineering Sai turns artifact play into Thopter production and card advantage.
Use a graveyard and sacrifice creatures Wretched Ranks Gisa and the Zombie package reward deaths, recursion, and repeated creature value.
Cast Dragons and generate Treasure Reign of Dragons Lathliss and the Dragon payoffs make large threats the center of the deck.
Ramp into very large creatures Tramplesaurus Rex Ghalta’s list combines mana creatures, oversized bodies, and combat finishers.

For a first game, match the deck to the kind of decisions you enjoy. Calling All Angels and Reign of Dragons make the creature type especially visible. Keen Engineering has more sequencing around artifacts and interaction. Wretched Ranks rewards planning several turns ahead around the graveyard. Tramplesaurus Rex is the most direct choice if your priority is accelerating mana and attacking with the biggest creatures available.

How many lands and tokens are in each deck?

The official basic-land counts are different: Calling All Angels has 32 Plains, Keen Engineering has 34 Islands, Wretched Ranks has 33 Swamps, Reign of Dragons has 32 Mountains, and Tramplesaurus Rex has 32 Forests. Those figures refer to basic lands; each list also contains the nonbasic lands named in its decklist.

Every product includes exactly 10 double-sided tokens, but the faces reflect its strategy. Calling All Angels supplies Angel, Clue, Spirit, and Monarch faces. Keen Engineering supplies Thopter, Myr, Phyrexian Germ, and Monarch faces. Wretched Ranks supplies Zombie, Zombie Knight, and Monarch faces. Reign of Dragons supplies several Treasure-and-Dragon combinations plus a Dragon double-face and Monarch. Tramplesaurus Rex supplies Beast, Spider, Phyrexian Beast, and Phyrexian Germ faces.

The token count is a product-inclusion count, not a promise that every token will be on the battlefield in a typical game. It tells you what physical pieces are supplied in the box. The double-sided format is particularly useful in Reign of Dragons, where several Treasure // Dragon combinations are included, and in Calling All Angels, where Angel, Clue, and Spirit faces share the same ten-token package.

Should you buy a sealed deck or individual cards?

Buy a sealed deck when you want a complete first deck

  • You want to play immediately without assembling a 100-card list.
  • You want the matching commander, deck box, reference card, and token package.
  • You are learning Commander and prefer a coherent, single-color strategy.
  • You want every card in one purchase rather than sourcing dozens of singles.
  • You want a ready-made mana base instead of separately finding basic and nonbasic lands.

Buy individual cards when you already own a deck

  • You need only a few cards from one list.
  • You are upgrading an existing Commander deck rather than learning the format.
  • You want specific staples, lands, or tribal payoffs without buying a complete product.
  • You are comparing the cost of missing cards with the cost of a sealed deck at the time you buy.
  • You already have tokens, sleeves, a deck box, and a commander that fit your plan.

Wizards names local game stores, TCGplayer, and Amazon as channels for the sealed products. Availability, seller, and price can change, so check the current listing before ordering. TCGplayer is also a natural place to look for singles when a sealed deck would duplicate cards you already own. A local game store can add the benefit of in-person Commander play and advice, which matters if you are starting from scratch.

There is no fixed price comparison to quote here because sealed-deck and single-card prices vary by seller and date. Compare the current total for the specific cards you need with the current sealed listing, and account for the value of the included tokens, foil borderless commander, deck box, and reference card if those accessories matter to you.

What to check before opening or trading for a deck

  • Confirm the product name and commander: the five Foundations decks are separate products, not interchangeable color variants.
  • Verify that the box contains the 100-card deck, foil borderless face commander, 10 double-sided tokens, reference card, and deck box.
  • Use the decklist above to check the nonbasic lands and named cards before trading away duplicates.
  • Keep the token faces with the deck; several cards create specific combinations such as Angel // Clue or Treasure // Dragon.
  • Remember that the basic-land total differs by deck, with Keen Engineering carrying the largest basic-land count at 34 Islands.
  • Check the commander and color before buying singles: all five products are monocolor, but their themes are not interchangeable.
  • If a listing is missing tokens or accessories, compare it with the complete product contents rather than judging only by the 100-card count.

Release date and availability

The Foundations Commander decks released October 2, 2026. Wizards of the Coast identified local game stores, TCGplayer, and Amazon as purchase channels. The products are intended as ready-to-play introductions to Commander, so a new player can select one color and begin with the complete list rather than buying a separate commander, mana base, and token supply.

The Bottom Line

Magic: The Gathering Foundations includes five ready-to-play monocolor Commander decks, not one generic product. Choose Giada for Angels, Sai for artifacts and Thopters, Gisa for Zombies and graveyard play, Lathliss for Dragons, or Ghalta for large green creatures. Each box supplies a complete 100-card list, 10 double-sided tokens, a foil borderless face commander, a reference card, and a deck box; the basic-land counts range from 32 to 34. The right purchase depends on whether you want the whole introductory deck or only individual cards from its list.
