Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsShort answer: Warzone keeps many recent Call of Duty items, but not everything transfers, and that carry-forward policy does not make old content native to Modern Warfare 4 Multiplayer or DMZ. Operators, Operator Skins, Weapon Blueprints and legacy weapons from Modern Warfare II, Modern Warfare III, Black Ops 6 and Black Ops 7 remain usable in Warzone. Legacy Weapon Camos are explicitly excluded. Legacy weapons also lose the old Gunsmith and Custom Loadout systems: base weapons use fixed five-attachment versions, while existing blueprints keep their previous attachment setups.
The important distinction: Warzone access versus Modern Warfare 4 content
Activision’s Season 1 carry-forward announcement concerns the retained collection in Warzone. It does not promise a universal import of every old item into Modern Warfare 4 Multiplayer or DMZ.

Modern Warfare 4 is a separately purchased game scheduled to launch on October 23, 2026. Its Multiplayer and DMZ modes have their own progression and content rules. An item remaining available in Warzone should therefore not be described as an item that automatically becomes a native Modern Warfare 4 asset.

The announcement’s phrase, “The collection you’ve built remains yours to use,” applies to the retained Warzone collection. It should not be expanded to mean that every old weapon, camo, loadout or cosmetic works identically in every mode.

What remains available in Warzone
| Content | Warzone status | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Operators | Retained | Operators from Modern Warfare II, Modern Warfare III, Black Ops 6 and Black Ops 7 are named in the carry-forward announcement. |
| Operator Skins | Retained | Availability is tied to the retained Warzone collection. |
| Weapon Blueprints | Retained | Existing blueprints keep their established attachment setups. |
| Legacy weapons | Retained through the Warzone Legacy tab | They do not support the old Gunsmith or prior Custom Loadouts. |
| Legacy Weapon Camos | Not retained | An official correction specifically excludes them from Warzone carry-forward. |
Operators and Operator Skins
Operators and their skins from the four named source games remain part of Warzone’s retained collection. This is a Warzone availability statement, not a guarantee that those cosmetics appear as selectable content in Modern Warfare 4 Multiplayer or DMZ.
Weapon Blueprints
Weapon Blueprints from Modern Warfare II, Modern Warfare III, Black Ops 6 and Black Ops 7 remain usable in Warzone. The preserved blueprint is not converted into a fully editable version of the newest Gunsmith. Instead, the blueprint keeps its existing attachment setup.
Legacy weapons
Older weapons can be found under Warzone’s Legacy tab. Each legacy base weapon receives a five-attachment version. This lets players use the weapon in the current Warzone environment without restoring the complete configuration system from its original game.

What does not carry forward, or carries forward only with limits
Legacy Weapon Camos are excluded
The clearest negative answer in the current documentation concerns legacy Weapon Camos. An official correction to the carry-forward announcement says these camos will not be available in Warzone.
That means a camo earned in an older Call of Duty title should not be treated like a retained Operator, skin or blueprint. The absence applies even when the associated weapon itself remains accessible through the Legacy tab.
The old Gunsmith is not restored
Legacy weapons and legacy blueprints do not support the former Gunsmith functionality. Players cannot assume that every old attachment slot, tuning option or weapon-building screen will reappear exactly as it worked in the source game.

For a legacy base weapon, Warzone supplies a five-attachment version. For an existing legacy blueprint, the previously defined attachment arrangement remains in place. Those are different cases: one is a constrained current implementation of a base weapon, and the other is a preserved blueprint configuration.
Prior Custom Loadouts do not return
Old Custom Loadouts are not supported for legacy weapons or legacy blueprints. A loadout saved in an earlier title should not be expected to populate the current Warzone loadout editor. Players must use the current Warzone interface and the options made available for the legacy item.
Does old content transfer to Modern Warfare 4 Multiplayer or DMZ?
There is no official promise that old Warzone Operators, skins, blueprints, camos, weapons, Gunsmith builds or Custom Loadouts become native Modern Warfare 4 Multiplayer or DMZ content. The reliable interpretation is:
Rank #4
- Includes PS5 version of game
- Warzone carry-forward: named items remain available within Warzone, subject to the stated limitations.
- Modern Warfare 4 Multiplayer and DMZ: separate modes in a separately purchased game, with no blanket import announced for the old collection.
This distinction answers several common questions at once. An MW2 or MW3 skin can remain usable in Warzone without being selectable in Modern Warfare 4 Multiplayer. A Warzone blueprint can remain in the Legacy collection without bringing its original Gunsmith editor into DMZ. A camo can be absent even though the weapon it decorated remains available.
Do you need to buy Modern Warfare 4 to use retained Warzone content?
The carry-forward announcement describes continued use of the retained collection in Warzone. It does not say that buying Modern Warfare 4 is required merely to access those retained Warzone items.

Buying it should therefore be understood as buying access to that game’s modes and progression, not as a way to unlock legacy camos or restore the old Gunsmith.
If your goal is only to continue using retained Operators, skins, blueprints or legacy weapons in Warzone, check the current Warzone account and platform requirements rather than assuming ownership of Modern Warfare 4 changes the carry-forward rules.

Online progression is stored on the linked Activision account. If a platform account is connected to a different Activision account, previous progression and beta bonus access do not move to that other account.
Use the same Activision account
To see your eligible Warzone collection, sign in with the Activision account that held the original content and keep the intended console or PC account linked to it. Creating or switching to a different Activision account can make earlier progression and entitlements appear to be missing because they remain associated with the original account.

Supported current-generation platforms
Official platform documentation says Warzone progress and content can continue to supported current-generation consoles or PC when the same linked Activision account is used. The carry-forward policy should not be read as a promise of identical service across every older platform generation.
What happens to beta progression?
Modern Warfare 4 beta gameplay progression resets when the beta ends. Levels, weapon progress and similar gameplay advancement earned during the beta do not become permanent progression.
Cosmetic beta rewards are treated differently: they carry into the full game at launch. Keep the same linked Activision account so those rewards can be associated with the account that participated in the beta.
Quick Recap
| Beta item | After the beta |
|---|---|
| Gameplay progression | Resets when the beta concludes. |
| Cosmetic beta rewards | Carry into the full game at launch. |
| Account association | Requires the same linked Activision account; a different account does not inherit prior progression or beta bonus access. |
How to check what you should expect
- Identify the mode. Decide whether you are checking Warzone, Modern Warfare 4 Multiplayer or DMZ. The carry-forward list applies to Warzone.
- Classify the item. Mark it as an Operator, Operator Skin, Weapon Blueprint, weapon, Weapon Camo or progression reward.
- Check the Warzone Legacy tab. Legacy weapons are accessed there rather than through the newest weapon list.
- Expect the legacy limits. A legacy base weapon uses its five-attachment version; an existing blueprint keeps its established attachment setup. Do not look for the old Gunsmith or saved Custom Loadout.
- Verify your account link. Confirm that your platform account uses the Activision account that originally held the content.
- Separate ownership from compatibility. Buying Modern Warfare 4 provides access to its own Multiplayer and DMZ modes, but does not establish that old Warzone items are imported into those modes.
Common assumptions that are wrong
- “Everything carries over.” No. Legacy Weapon Camos are explicitly excluded, and the retained items are described for Warzone.
- “A retained weapon has its complete old build system.” No. Legacy weapons do not retain the old Gunsmith or prior Custom Loadouts.
- “A Warzone skin automatically works in Modern Warfare 4 Multiplayer.” That compatibility has not been promised by the carry-forward materials.
- “Changing Activision accounts will preserve my unlocks.” No. Progression and beta bonuses stay with the original linked account.
- “Beta levels become permanent.” No. Gameplay progression resets; cosmetic beta rewards carry forward.
