To change Website Typo Protection in Microsoft Edge, open edge://settings/privacy/security in the address bar, find Website Typo Protection, and switch it on or off. If the control is missing or says it is managed, an administrator may be controlling it through Edge policy.
What Website Typo Protection does
Microsoft says Edge’s typosquatting checker warns when you appear to have mistyped a common web address and may be heading to a malicious site. Typosquatting involves registering a misspelled version of another organization’s domain to attract its visitors; Microsoft gives tailspintoy.com as a lookalike of tailspintoys.com. How to turn the setting on or off
- Open Microsoft Edge and enter
edge://settings/privacy/securityin the address bar. - Locate Website Typo Protection in the security settings.
- Switch the setting on to receive warnings, or off to disable them.

Why the setting may be managed
On an unmanaged Edge installation, Website Typo Protection is on by default when its policy has not been configured, and users can choose whether to use it. An organization can instead configure the TyposquattingCheckerEnabled policy to turn the feature on or off. If the setting is marked as managed or cannot be changed, contact your organization’s administrator rather than trying to override its policy.

Other administrator controls
PreventTyposquattingPromptOverridecan stop users from ignoring a warning. Microsoft says it applies only when typo protection is enabled or is not explicitly disabled.TyposquattingAllowListDomainslets administrators exempt trusted domains from warnings in supported managed environments. The policy has specific device-management or domain-join requirements; organizations using Microsoft Defender for Endpoint must manage allowlists and blocklists in the Defender portal instead.

Microsoft lists the TyposquattingCheckerEnabled policy as supported on Windows and macOS starting with Edge 96, and on Android starting with Edge 124; iOS is listed as unsupported for this policy. These are policy support versions, not a guarantee that consumer settings look identical on every platform. Consult Microsoft’s policy support details for the relevant deployment.
