Large Monitors for WFH: Five Picks for Different Setups

Five large monitors for different home-office needs, from ultrawide laptop setups to 32-inch 4K and color-focused displays.

For a wide laptop workspace, consider the Dell 34 Plus S3425DW; for 32-inch 4K, compare the ASUS ProArt PA329CV and LG 32U721SB-W; and for specialized color features, look at the Dell UltraSharp U3226Q. The LG 34BP85CN-B is another ultrawide option, but its older specification sheet makes checking current availability especially important. These are use-case candidates, not tested winners: manufacturer specifications inform this guide, but no hands-on or controlled comparisons were conducted.

Choose the screen shape before the diagonal

A 34-inch ultrawide and a 32-inch 16:9 monitor can serve different workspace needs, so screen size alone is not a useful way to compare them. Dell lists the S3425DW at 3440 × 1440, a resolution and aspect ratio that emphasize horizontal space. The ASUS PA329CV and LG 32U721SB-W are 3840 × 2160 4K UHD displays, providing more vertical pixels than that Dell ultrawide example.

More pixels do not automatically mean a more comfortable desktop. Viewing distance, operating-system scaling, eyesight and the way your apps are arranged all affect usability; the cited manufacturer pages do not test those outcomes.

Five large monitors, matched to different WFH needs

1. Dell 34 Plus S3425DW: wide workspace and laptop connection

Dell specifies a 34-inch curved WQHD screen, up to 120 Hz and USB-C with DisplayPort Alt Mode and power delivery up to 65 W. That makes it a candidate for people who want horizontal room and a monitor-based laptop connection. Check that your computer’s USB-C port supports video over DisplayPort Alt Mode, and that 65 W is enough for its charging needs. Dell’s S3425DW specifications.

Check laptop docking and display compatibility

A USB-C connector alone does not guarantee that a monitor will carry video, charge a laptop adequately or support the resolution and refresh rate you want. Before choosing a display, check the entire signal path, including the computer, cable and any dock.

  • Video: Confirm that the computer’s USB-C or Thunderbolt port supports display output, and check the monitor’s required video mode.
  • Charging: Compare the monitor’s stated power delivery with the laptop’s charging requirements. The listed figures for the S3425DW and LG 34BP85CN-B are maximums, not a promise that every laptop will charge at that rate.
  • Resolution and refresh rate: Verify what the computer can output through the chosen port, cable and dock. A monitor’s maximum refresh-rate specification does not establish what your particular setup will achieve.
  • Desk and ergonomics: Measure desk width and depth, viewing distance, and clearance for a stand or arm. Check height, tilt and swivel adjustments and the VESA pattern for the exact SKU before choosing a mounting plan.

How to narrow the shortlist

  1. Decide whether you need width or vertical pixels. Choose an ultrawide format if arranging multiple windows side by side is the priority; consider 32-inch 4K if extra vertical resolution matters more.
  2. Set your connection requirements. Check video support and laptop charging needs, then rule out monitors whose stated capabilities do not meet them.
  3. Identify any color-work requirements. Treat published gamut and calibration features as useful specifications to investigate, not a replacement for checking that a display and workflow meet your professional standards.
  4. Measure the setup. Confirm that the monitor fits the desk and viewing distance, and verify the stand or mounting options on the specific SKU.
  5. Check the current local listing. Prices, stock, exact configurations and product status can change by region. This matters particularly for the LG 34BP85CN-B’s older document and for models whose cited information is tied to a particular market.
