If images are missing from a website screenshot, first check whether the image request failed, the browser blocked it, or the capture happened before it loaded. Chrome DevTools’ Network panel can connect the blank spot to a specific image request; the Console and Issues panel can help explain browser security blocks. Fix the underlying cause or wait for the required content before capturing again.
1. Find out whether the image loaded
- Open the affected page in Chrome and open DevTools.
- Select Network, reload the page, and filter the requests to images.
- Find the image that corresponds to the missing area. Inspect its request URL, status, response, initiator, preview, and timing.
A failed request points toward a URL, server-response, or request-path problem. A request marked blocked suggests a browser restriction. If the request succeeds only after the screenshot was taken, investigate capture timing. Chrome’s Network panel guide explains how to filter and inspect network activity.

2. Check browser security reports
Open the Console and DevTools’ Issues panel. Look for a report associated with the image, such as mixed content, a Cross-Origin Resource Sharing (CORS) error, or a Content Security Policy (CSP) violation. Follow the affected-resource link and inspect that specific request before changing settings. The Issues panel guide describes how to find reported problems.
When the page is HTTPS but the image URL is HTTP
This is mixed content: a secure page is requesting an insecure resource. Browser handling can vary with the resource and browser, so do not assume every HTTP image is treated identically. Replace the image URL with a working HTTPS URL where available, then reload and confirm in Network that the request succeeds. See web.dev’s guides to what mixed content is and fixing mixed content.

When Console or Issues reports CORS or CSP
Use the report and the request details to identify the resource and the condition that affected it. Check the site’s applicable cross-origin or content-security policy and correct the specific source or policy problem. Do not disable browser protections as a general fix; the issue report should guide a targeted change.
3. Check whether the screenshot was taken too early
In DevTools’ Network panel, enable screenshots and reload. The resulting timeline lets you compare what the page looked like at different loading points with the requests that had completed. If the image appears later, the screenshot may have captured an incomplete page rather than a broken image. Chrome documents this and other loading diagnostics in its Network activity guide.

For automated captures, wait for the content you actually need, then verify that its request and rendered image are ready. Puppeteer and Playwright both provide screenshot APIs and document their capture workflows: Puppeteer screenshots and Playwright screenshots. A navigation wait condition or a fixed delay alone cannot guarantee that every deferred, site-specific, or scroll-triggered image has loaded. Check the relevant image request and page content before taking the screenshot.

A warm cache or fast local connection can hide an image that fails or arrives too late for a first-time visitor or automated capture. In DevTools, disable the cache and simulate a slower connection, then reload and inspect the image requests and loading timeline. Compare the result with the capture environment’s browser and viewport. Chrome’s Network features reference covers the panel’s available controls.

5. Match the symptom to the next check
