What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
First determine whether the audio-video gap stays roughly constant or grows as the stream plays. A stable gap may be corrected with a measured OBS source sync offset; growing drift points to a timing, sample-rate, or playback-path issue that a fixed offset will not solve. If the locally encoded output is synchronized but YouTube playback is not, check stream health and delivery before changing source timing.
Identify what kind of sync problem you have
Choose a recognizable event with visible motion and a matching sound, such as a clap, a spoken word, or an instrument strike. Compare it near the beginning of the program and substantially later. If possible, also check after the loop restarts. Judge the actual YouTube playback or stream monitor, not only OBS’s local preview: local monitoring alone does not establish that the encoded output is synchronized.

| What you observe | What it suggests | Where to investigate |
|---|---|---|
| The audio leads or trails by about the same amount throughout. | A stable timing offset is plausible. | Measure the gap and adjust the responsible OBS source’s timing, then verify the encoded YouTube playback. |
| The gap becomes larger later in the program or after a loop. | There may be an ongoing timing or processing issue; a fixed offset will not correct accumulating drift. | Check the media file, playback behavior, sample-rate consistency, and audio routing. |
| Local encoded output appears synchronized, but YouTube playback seems delayed or unstable. | Platform latency or delivery conditions may be confused with relative audio-video desync. | Review YouTube stream health and connection conditions before changing source sync. |
This pattern-based split is a diagnostic inference from the timing you observe, not a universal root-cause rule.

Run a representative test and inspect stream health
YouTube recommends that “Tests should include audio and movement in the video similar to what you’ll be doing in the stream.” Test with representative content before relying on the setup, and monitor stream health while it is running. See YouTube’s encoder settings and testing guidance.

Use the YouTube playback or stream monitor to check the same recognizable events you used for the comparison. If the apparent problem happens only for viewers, check YouTube’s stream-health messages and the delivery path. YouTube explains that lower latency reduces player read-ahead buffering, which can make encoder-to-player issues more noticeable; network congestion can also delay a stream. Latency is capture-to-viewer delay, not the same thing as audio being out of sync with video. See YouTube’s explanation of live-stream latency.
Check the prerecorded source and loop
In OBS, confirm that the source points to the intended file and is using the intended audio track. Check that playback speed is 100% and that the source’s loop or restart behavior matches the way the program is meant to run. If the stream uses a playlist, verify the order and behavior of each item as well as the transitions between them. OBS documents Media Source file support, looping, and “Restart playback when source becomes active”; its VLC Video source supports playlists and audio-track selection. See the OBS Media Sources guide.

Play the file locally and compare sync near its beginning and end. If the file itself drifts, address the media before adjusting OBS timing. If only one item in a playlist is affected, check that item and its selected track rather than assuming the whole stream has the same fault.
Investigate growing drift and sample rates
When the mismatch widens over time, check that the sample rates in the audio device and OBS are consistent across the audio path. An OBS community support response identifies a mismatch as one possible cause of drift, but it does not establish that this is the cause in every setup. Treat it as a useful check, not a guaranteed fix. YouTube’s encoder guidance lists 44.1 kHz for stereo and 48 kHz for 5.1 audio; choose the setting appropriate to your output configuration and keep the source and device path coherent. See YouTube’s encoder settings and the OBS forum.

- PLUG IN AND HEAR SOUND IN SECONDS - USB Type-A connector with a 3.5mm stereo headphone output and a separate 3.5mm mono microphone input. No drivers, no software, no external power - the adapter is USB bus-powered and is recognized as a standard USB audio device.
- WORKS ON WINDOWS, MAC AND LINUX - Driverless on Windows 98SE/ME/2000/XP/Server 2003/Vista/7/8, Linux and Mac OSX, and compliant with the USB Audio Device Class 1.0 specification, so any system that supports class-compliant USB audio will see it. Select it as the sound output and input device after plugging it in.
- TWO JACKS, TWO JOBS - The green jack is stereo OUT for headphones or powered speakers; the pink jack is mono microphone IN for a 3.5mm mic. It does NOT support 4-pole headsets on a single combo plug, it does NOT power passive speakers, and it does NOT add surround sound - it is a stereo 2-channel adapter.
- FOR LAPTOPS AND DESKTOPS THAT NEED AN AUDIO PORT BACK - Adds a headphone and mic port to a laptop, desktop, or mini PC whose onboard jack has failed or was never there. Managed and work-issued computers can block new USB audio devices by policy - check with your IT department before ordering for a company machine.
- SABRENT SUPPORT AND WARRANTY - What is in the box: one USB audio sound adapter. Backed by a 1-year limited warranty, extended to 2 years when you register within 90 days on the manufacturer's website.
Also recheck playback speed, the selected track, and the behavior at the loop boundary. If the drift is tied to one file or one transition, isolate that part in a short test before changing settings for the full continuous stream.
Correct a stable offset in OBS
Only apply a fixed timing correction after measuring a gap that remains stable. OBS provides an audio sync offset for sources, but the appropriate direction and amount depend on which component leads and on the measured error; there is no universal value. Adjust the source responsible for the offset, then check the encoded YouTube playback again. OBS’s source API documents the audio sync offset capability.

If the mismatch grows over time, do not use a fixed offset to mask the beginning of the stream. Investigate the ongoing timing behavior first. After any adjustment, verify the result in the output: monitor behavior and encoded playback are not necessarily identical.
Distinguish sync errors from connection and delivery problems
If audio and video are synchronized in the local encoded output, but the viewer experience is delayed or unstable, inspect the connection and stream-health reports before moving source timing. OBS describes dropped frames as a sign that the connection is unstable or cannot keep up with the configured bitrate; dropped frames are a delivery warning, not proof of a source sync error. See OBS’s dropped-frames guidance.

Make changes safely on a continuous stream
There is no universal, interruption-free procedure for changing OBS media and audio settings during every 24/7 stream arrangement. Where possible, reproduce the fault in a controlled test, make one measured change at a time, and monitor playback and stream health afterward. The exact safe procedure depends on how the encoder and stream are set up.
- Record the symptom: which event is out of sync, where it appears, and whether the gap is stable or growing.
- Check the media file, selected audio track, playback speed, and loop or playlist behavior.
- If drift grows, check sample-rate consistency and the audio path before applying a fixed offset.
- If a stable offset remains, adjust the responsible source by a measured amount.
- Verify the encoded YouTube playback and stream-health status after the change.
