A UPS can keep a YouTube stream running through a power cut only if it has enough real-watt capacity and runtime for the entire streaming chain: PC, monitor if needed, router or modem, and any essential peripherals. First decide whether you need a few minutes to shut down safely or enough battery capacity to continue broadcasting for hours; those are different sizing problems.
What UPS do you need for a streaming PC?
Choose from the measured combined load in watts, not the wattage printed on the PC’s power supply. A PSU rating describes its capacity; it does not tell you how much power the computer draws from the wall. Measure the PC while gaming and encoding at its heaviest realistic workload, then include every device that must remain on during an outage.

Measure the complete load
- List what must stay powered. Include the PC, modem or router, and any required switch, capture device or audio equipment. A monitor may be necessary if you need to supervise or shut down the system; speakers and other noncritical devices can often be left off the backup circuit.
- Measure wall draw under load. Use a suitable power meter during demanding gameplay and encoding, and also note lower-load periods that matter. If you cannot measure first, estimate conservatively from component specifications, then verify the installed system under representative conditions.
- Allow headroom. Schneider Electric India recommends UPS output watt capacity 20–25% above the load in its sizing guidance; its broader material also gives a 20–30% range. Treat this as manufacturer guidance, not a universal standard. Account for load peaks and inrush where applicable.
Check watts and VA separately
UPS listings commonly state both watts (W) and volt-amperes (VA). The watt rating is the real-power ceiling; the VA rating is apparent power. A high VA number alone does not guarantee that the unit can supply enough watts. Schneider Electric India describes common equipment power factors in the 0.6–0.9 range; check the power factor and both output limits on the exact UPS model.
For example, Socomec India’s ITYS E family lists models from 1,000 VA/800 W through 10,000 VA/8,000 W. These are family ratings, not a recommendation for a particular PC. Select only after calculating your own connected load and checking the model’s runtime data.

How many hours will a UPS run my PC?
Do not infer runtime from VA or battery amp-hour (Ah) labels alone. Runtime changes with actual load, battery condition and age, temperature, conversion efficiency and discharge characteristics. Use the manufacturer’s runtime chart for the precise UPS model at a load close to your measured total.
For safe shutdown
If the goal is to save work and shut down, choose a UPS with enough documented runtime to perform those actions reliably. Schneider Electric India describes consumer and home-office UPS units in the 650–1500 VA range as typically short-runtime products, with broad typical runtime of 5–20 minutes depending on load and model. That category description is not a prediction for your setup.

For staying live through an outage
Hours of autonomy usually require a system designed for external batteries or an appropriate inverter and battery arrangement. Confirm that the exact unit supports the battery type and capacity you plan to use, and check its charging capability, output waveform, transfer behavior and load rating. Battery sizing needs manufacturer discharge data and allowances for efficiency, temperature, aging and design margin; Fuji Electric India’s technical guidance describes these factors and gives 10–15% as one design-margin method. Have a qualified installer handle hardwired or higher-voltage battery systems.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteWhich UPS type and output should you choose?
A line-interactive UPS with automatic voltage regulation (AVR) may suit many home PCs. An online double-conversion model can be appropriate when continuous power conditioning is a priority, but its cost, efficiency, fan noise and heat vary by product. Do not assume every online UPS is silent or necessary.

- KEEP YOUR COMPUTER, WI-FI AND ROUTER RUNNING THROUGH POWER OUTAGES: Supplies short-term battery power during outages to maintain internet connectivity and allow safe shutdown of computer during power interruptions
- POWER PROBLEMS DON'T ONLY HAPPEN DURING STORMS: 23 minutes of runtime (at 100W load) guards against outages, while surge protection shields connected devices from unexpected power events that happen even on a normal day
- PROTECT EVERYTHING ON YOUR DESK: 5 well-spaced outlets with full battery backup and surge protection, plus 2 surge-only outlets for less critical gear
- PHONE CHARGER: Keep your phone charged even when the power's out. The built-in 1.5A USB port works during outages
- EASY BATTERY REPLACEMENT KEEPS COSTS LOW: Swap the internal battery in minutes when it ages out, no need to replace the whole unit (APC replacement battery APCRBC154, sold separately)
Check the exact model’s output waveform and transfer behavior against your PC power supply. Also verify India-appropriate plugs and sockets, local service and battery replacement availability, operating conditions, ventilation and manufacturer clearance requirements. A pure sine-wave output may be a selection consideration for a PC setup, but it does not replace checking watts, runtime and compatibility.
Will your YouTube stream stay live during a power cut?
Not necessarily. A UPS connected only to the PC cannot keep the stream going if the router or modem loses power. Put the required network equipment on backup too, and test the complete chain, including the ISP connection and upload bandwidth. A local UPS cannot prevent an ISP-side outage, upstream network failure or YouTube service disruption.

Check stream settings and upload headroom
YouTube’s published H.264 guidance recommends 17 Mbps for 1080p60 and 14 Mbps for 1080p30. Its encoder guidance recommends constant bitrate (CBR), up to 60 frames per second and a two-second keyframe interval (not more than four seconds). YouTube’s network tips recommend upload capacity with 20% room above the stream bitrate. These figures are platform guidance and can change; check YouTube’s current Help pages before configuring a stream.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Test before relying on the setup
- Connect the PC and all essential network devices to the UPS-backed outlets, observing the UPS maker’s load and outlet limits.
- Run a representative stream workload and check that the UPS is not overloaded and that the network remains connected.
- With the stream in a safe test state, simulate a power loss using the manufacturer’s recommended test procedure. Check for resets, dropped network links, audible alarms and actual runtime.
- Monitor battery condition and repeat the whole-chain test periodically. Replace batteries only with compatible specifications and follow the manufacturer’s instructions.
UPS cost and maintenance considerations in India
Compare products by output watts and VA, topology and waveform, runtime at your measured load, external-battery support, compatible replacement batteries, local service and operating requirements. A low-cost unit that cannot sustain the actual load or has no suitable runtime information may not meet a 24/7 continuity goal. Battery capacity and lifespan are affected by heat, age and cycling, so do not budget or plan around a fixed runtime derived only from a label.
