PC Slower Than It Used to Be?
A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 11Outdated Drivers Are Slowing You Down
One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchFor most creators, OBS is the better starting point for a continuous YouTube bhajan stream: it offers a graphical workflow for connecting an encoder to YouTube. Choose FFmpeg if you are comfortable with command-line media tools and need scripted control over playback or video looping. Neither program by itself guarantees a 24/7 broadcast; the source, computer, internet connection, encoder process and YouTube ingest all need to keep working.
OBS vs. FFmpeg: choose by workflow
| Your need | Better starting point | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Graphical setup for a typical creator workflow | OBS | YouTube lists Open Broadcaster Software as free, open-source software for recording and live streaming, and its encoder workflow uses a server URL and stream key. YouTube’s encoder setup guidance |
| Scripted media handling and documented video-frame looping | FFmpeg | Its video loop filter supports an infinite loop setting. This does not establish seamless looping for arbitrary audio, video or playlists. FFmpeg Filters Documentation |
| Setup by nontechnical volunteers | Usually OBS | A graphical interface is a sensible default, but the cited sources do not provide comparative usability tests. |
| Unattended operation | Neither alone | Long-running service also needs monitoring, safe key storage, tested media and a recovery plan for process, network and ingest failures. |
The choice is not just about the encoder. Consider whether your bhajan source is a recording or live performance, whether the visual is static or a playlist, how much automation you need, and who will notice and recover a failure.

What you need before going live
- A YouTube channel able to live stream and access to YouTube Live Control Room.
- A recording or other source you are entitled to broadcast. Check the rights for the exact recording, arrangement, performance and composition; devotional subject matter alone does not establish permission.
- A stable computer and upload connection for a self-hosted OBS or FFmpeg setup. Leave bandwidth headroom rather than using an ingest rate that saturates your connection.
- A plan for monitoring the broadcast and restarting playback, the encoder or the connection if one fails.
YouTube’s encoder guidance recommends testing representative audio and movement before the broadcast and monitoring stream health. YouTube says: “Make sure to test before you start your live stream.” YouTube encoder settings guidance
Set YouTube’s stream details and encoder settings
- In YouTube Live Control Room, create or select a live stream. Copy its server URL and stream key into your encoder. YouTube’s instruction is: “To start streaming, enter your YouTube Live server URL and stream key into your encoder.” Encoder setup guidance
- Keep the stream key private. Treat it like a password: do not put a real key in a public guide, script repository or screenshot. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube and update the encoder.
- Use RTMPS where available. YouTube recommends RTMPS, a secure streaming option; FFmpeg documents RTMPS as RTMP over SSL. Protocol support does not prove that a particular FFmpeg build or command is correctly configured. YouTube settings · FFmpeg Protocols Documentation
- Set a constant bitrate (CBR) and a keyframe interval of 2 seconds; YouTube says not to exceed 4 seconds. Use AAC or MP3 audio as recommended by YouTube. YouTube encoder settings
- Choose a video profile your connection can sustain. For a static or low-motion devotional visual, 720p at 30 fps is a reasonable starting point if you want video; YouTube’s recommended H.264 bitrate for that profile is 8 Mbps. For 1080p at 30 fps, its recommendation is 14 Mbps. These are platform recommendations, not mandatory settings or guarantees of successful delivery. Test your upload capacity and leave headroom.
- Start the encoder, then check Live Control Room. Confirm that YouTube is receiving the feed, inspect stream health, and verify that audio and picture behave as expected before relying on the broadcast.
Run the stream with OBS
- Install OBS Studio from its official source and open it. YouTube lists OBS as free, open-source streaming software; YouTube’s instructions describe encoder setup through a stream URL and key. YouTube encoder overview
- Build the scene. Add the bhajan video or other intended visual as a source. Add audio if it is separate from the video. Preview the scene and listen to the audio; check that the picture does not unexpectedly go blank when a source ends.
- Configure output and stream connection. In OBS settings, select a streaming service or custom server as appropriate for the current interface, then enter YouTube’s server URL and stream key. Set CBR, the chosen bitrate, a 2-second keyframe interval, and compatible audio encoding. YouTube’s recommendations are the reference for these values; interface labels can change.
- Start streaming and verify the ingest. Use YouTube Live Control Room to check the incoming picture, audio and stream health. Do not assume that a local “streaming” indicator proves viewers are receiving a healthy broadcast.
- Test recovery before leaving it unattended. Determine what happens when the source ends, OBS closes, the computer sleeps or the network drops. Configure the computer not to sleep during the planned session, and arrange monitoring and a way to restart OBS and reconnect.
OBS gives you a visual production workflow, but an unattended stream still depends on the computer staying powered and the software process, network and YouTube ingest remaining available.

Run the stream with FFmpeg
FFmpeg suits operators who can manage command-line media workflows. Its documentation describes a video loop filter whose loop count of -1 means infinite looping. That setting concerns video frames; it is not evidence that an arbitrary audiovisual playlist will repeat seamlessly or that a stopped process will restart itself. FFmpeg Filters Documentation
- Prepare and test the source. Confirm the file plays correctly, has the intended audio, and is suitable for repeated playback. If a seamless join matters, test the actual file at the loop point; do not infer seamlessness from the loop setting.
- Obtain the current YouTube server URL and stream key from Live Control Room. Store the key outside public scripts and logs where practicable. Use a secure RTMPS endpoint if your FFmpeg build and configuration support it.
- Construct and test the command for your media. Set the input, intended looping behavior, video and audio encoding, output bitrate and keyframe interval to match YouTube’s recommendations and the source. The right command depends on the file’s streams, codecs and desired output; test it with the actual input rather than copying an unverified generic command.
- Send the output to YouTube and check Live Control Room. Confirm incoming video, audio and stream health. Adjust the encoder or bitrate if the connection cannot reliably sustain the chosen profile.
- Add external supervision for unattended use. Plan how to detect end-of-file, a crashed FFmpeg process, a dropped network connection and a YouTube ingest failure. A process supervisor or restart policy may help with process exits, but it does not by itself verify that viewers are receiving a healthy broadcast.
Plan for the ways a “continuous” stream can stop
Looping a source and keeping a channel broadcast available are separate jobs. Test the likely failure points individually:

- Source reaches its end: verify that the playback setup repeats the intended material and that audio and video both continue as expected.
- Encoder exits or computer loses power: arrange process monitoring and recovery; a loop option does not restart a terminated encoder.
- Network or YouTube ingest drops: monitor stream health and test reconnection behavior. YouTube recommends testing and monitoring, not assuming a connection will remain healthy.
- Broadcast ends in YouTube: check Live Control Room and the current platform behavior; a working local encoder is not the same as an active public broadcast.
YouTube’s encoder help says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not assume that a broadcast planned to exceed that duration will produce one automatically archived recording under this rule; check current Live Control Room behavior and plan VOD handling separately. YouTube encoder guidance
YouTube currently states limits of 10 active streams per channel and 3 active streams per stream key; both limits apply. These matter for multiple simultaneous broadcasts, not for choosing OBS over FFmpeg. Check YouTube’s current live-streaming guidance for changes. YouTube live-streaming guidance

Troubleshooting common failures
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check or do |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube does not receive the stream | Incorrect server URL or key, encoder not sending, or ingest connection trouble | Recheck the URL and key in Live Control Room and the encoder; confirm the encoder is running and inspect YouTube stream health. |
| Video or audio is missing | Wrong source or track, unsupported output configuration, or media that does not contain the expected stream | Preview and listen locally, inspect the selected sources or input streams, then test the feed in Live Control Room with representative content. |
| Stream is unstable or drops | Upload connection cannot sustain the selected bitrate, or network/ingest interruption | Reduce the output to a profile the connection can sustain, leave headroom, use RTMPS where available, and monitor health. |
| Playback stops at the end of a bhajan video | The chosen playback setup did not repeat the source as intended | Test the loop behavior with the actual file. FFmpeg’s documented video-frame loop control does not establish seamless audio/video playlist looping. |
| FFmpeg does not resume after a failure | The process stopped and no external supervisor restarted it | Inspect the process exit and logs, then use tested supervision and a reconnection plan; a loop filter only affects playback while the process is running. |
| A long broadcast has no expected archive | The stream exceeded YouTube’s stated under-12-hour automatic archive rule | Check current Live Control Room behavior and make a separate VOD plan. |
