Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsTo get notified when a website screenshot is ready, submit an asynchronous capture job with a callback URL, then let the screenshot API POST the result or job status to your publicly reachable HTTPS endpoint. The first response usually confirms that the job was accepted; it does not mean the image is ready. Callback support, payloads, signatures, and delivery rules vary by provider and deployment, so confirm them in the provider’s current documentation before building against them.
How screenshot webhooks work
A webhook is an event-triggered HTTP request to a URL you configure. Apple’s App Store Connect API documentation describes webhooks as event-driven notifications sent to a predefined URL, also called a webhook or callback URL.

- Your application submits the target page URL, rendering options, and the provider’s callback parameter.
- The provider accepts or queues the capture and returns an acknowledgement, often HTTP 202, with a job identifier. This acknowledges processing, not completion.
- After rendering finishes, the provider sends an HTTP POST to your callback endpoint. Depending on the service, the payload may identify the job and include a status, result URL or image data, MIME type, timing, or error information.
- Your endpoint verifies the event, records it, and acknowledges it with the success status the provider requires. Your application can then retrieve or process the result.
The asynchronous pattern is useful when you do not want the client request to remain open while a page renders. It does not imply a particular render duration or guarantee that delivery will succeed.

Do not assume that every screenshot API, account plan, or deployment currently supports callbacks. The cited documentation describes materially different availability: ScreenshotMAX documents asynchronous requests with an optional callback, while ScreenshotRun describes a callback workflow that includes failure events. The screenshotapis.org guide says callbacks are unavailable on the deployment it covers and return 503 without charging a credit. Check the live documentation and your intended deployment rather than relying on a general product description.

| Service or option | What the cited material establishes | What to verify before implementation |
|---|---|---|
| ScreenshotNeo | A one-request screenshot API and MCP server; the supplied product information does not establish webhook or asynchronous-job support. It is useful when a direct screenshot response suits your workflow. | Do not treat it as a callback service unless its current documentation confirms that capability. |
| ScreenshotMAX | Asynchronous requests with an optional callback, a 202 response, a public HTTP(S) destination, POST delivery, 2xx acknowledgement, and optional HMAC-SHA256 signing. | Confirm current plan and deployment availability, exact signature procedure, payload, result retrieval and retention, and retry behavior. |
| ScreenshotRun | A callback workflow and failure events are described. | Confirm current availability, payload fields, signature support, acknowledgement requirements, retries, result retention, and limits. |
| screenshotapis.org deployment covered by its guide | The guide says async callbacks are currently unavailable on that deployment; callback requests return 503 without charging a credit. | Check whether the deployment status has changed before relying on callbacks. |
These distinctions are based on the cited provider material, not a claim that availability is identical across accounts or dates. The available information does not establish a shared retry policy, retention period, latency guarantee, or universal quota. Ask the provider or consult its current documentation for those specifics.
Design the callback receiver
Make it reachable and verify events
- Use a publicly reachable HTTPS endpoint. A callback provider cannot normally POST to a service available only on localhost or a private network.
- Verify the provider’s documented signature before trusting the body. For HMAC verification, follow that provider’s exact signing procedure; where it requires raw-body verification, do not parse and reserialize the request before checking the signature.
- Persist the provider job ID, event status, and enough event data to resume processing. Return the documented success response only after the event is safely recorded.
- Make downstream work asynchronous if it may take longer than the provider’s acknowledgement window. Acknowledge the callback promptly after durable recording, then process the image in a worker.
- Make processing idempotent. A duplicate event must not trigger duplicate billing or side effects in your own system. Check the provider’s current retry and duplicate-delivery rules; they are not universal.
Keep submission and completion separate
Store the initial job identifier and associate it with your own request or record. When a callback arrives, use the provider’s documented identifier to match it to that record. Do not mark a job complete merely because the submit request returned 202. Handle both success and failure events if the service sends them, and preserve error details for diagnosis.

Confirm result handling
Establish whether the callback contains image bytes, a downloadable URL, or only metadata. If it contains a URL, find out how long the result remains available and whether retrieval requires authentication. Avoid assuming that the callback itself contains the image or that a result URL is permanent.
Implementation checklist
- Choose an API and confirm asynchronous capture is enabled for the exact deployment and plan.
- Read its submission schema: target URL, render options, callback parameter name, accepted URL format, and initial response fields.
- Deploy a public HTTPS receiver and configure the callback URL.
- Implement documented signature verification and reject unauthenticated events.
- Persist each event and its job identifier before returning the required 2xx response.
- Process the result idempotently in a separate task where appropriate.
- Test successful captures, render failures, invalid signatures, delayed events, and duplicate deliveries.
- Confirm retry behavior, timeouts, result retention, quotas, and cost with the provider before production traffic.
Or skip the browser setup
If you need the screenshot itself rather than a provider callback workflow, ScreenshotNeo can return a capture from one GET request; the supplied product information does not establish webhook support. Its capture options include accepting consent banners and removing known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture, with each step independently switchable. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and response headers identify the page verdict and billing status. It also offers an MCP server for AI agents.

Troubleshooting webhook integrations
- No callback arrives: Confirm callbacks are enabled for the deployment and plan, the URL is publicly reachable over HTTPS, and the job was accepted. Check provider delivery logs and endpoint logs.
- The submission returns 202 but the app says the screenshot is ready: Treat 202 as job acceptance only. Wait for the callback or use the provider’s documented result-checking method.
- The provider reports callback failure: Check that the receiver accepts POST, responds with the required 2xx status, and completes its durable write within the provider’s allowed time.
- Signature verification fails: Check the configured secret, signing algorithm, header format, and whether verification must use the raw request body. Follow the provider’s precise instructions.
- Jobs process twice: Make event handling idempotent using the provider job or event identifier. Confirm whether the service retries and whether repeated delivery is expected.
- The callback has no usable image: Determine whether the service sends bytes, a temporary URL, or metadata only. Retrieve the result using the documented method and account for its retention period.
- Callbacks return 503: Verify the service’s current deployment status. For the screenshotapis.org deployment described by its guide, 503 indicates callbacks are unavailable and the guide says no credit is charged.
Performance, reliability, and cost decisions
Async capture shifts waiting from the submitter to a later event; it does not remove rendering time or guarantee delivery. Design the receiver so that transient failures can be investigated and safely retried, but do not invent retry timing: obtain the provider’s documented policy. Likewise, compare page-load controls, rendering limits, quotas, result retention, and pricing at your expected volume. The cited material does not establish universal values for these items.

Does an HTTP 202 response mean the screenshot is ready?
No. It commonly means the asynchronous job was accepted or queued. The callback or the provider’s documented retrieval mechanism indicates completion.

Can a webhook endpoint run on localhost?
A provider making an internet HTTP request generally needs a publicly reachable endpoint. A local-only address is not reachable from the provider; use a secure public HTTPS endpoint for deployed integrations.
Should my endpoint return success before image processing finishes?
If the event is durably recorded and the provider expects a prompt acknowledgement, downstream processing can happen separately. Confirm the provider’s acknowledgement window and response requirements.
