For a filed return, form, acknowledgement or receipt, download the record from the Income Tax e-Filing portal rather than printing the page that displays it. Use your browser’s Print command and choose Save as PDF only when you need a copy of a portal page that has no suitable download. A browser-made PDF captures the page’s presentation; it is not a substitute for the portal’s filed document.
Download the official filed record first
The Income Tax Department’s View Filed Forms User Manual and View Filed Forms FAQ describe a post-login route for registered users to view and download filed forms. The manual says the service can provide a PDF of a form, acknowledgements or receipts, uploaded JSON where applicable, status information and other attachments.

- Sign in to the e-Filing portal with your registered user ID and password.
- Open e-File > Income Tax Forms > View Filed Forms.
- Search by form name or number if necessary, then select the relevant form and filing year.
- Choose Download for the form, receipt or attachment you need.
Use the portal’s own file when you need the submitted form or its acknowledgement. A PDF printed from a page showing filing information may not contain the same document or establish the same record.

Download a filed return from the dashboard
The Income Tax Department’s Quick Glance for first time Registration User Manual describes a dashboard option called Download Filed Return. It provides the acknowledgement or the entire filed form for the current assessment year.

If that option is available for your return, use it to save the acknowledgement or full return instead of printing the dashboard page. The manual describes the current assessment year; it does not establish that the same dashboard option covers every past year.
Save a portal page as PDF in your browser
For a page with no suitable portal download, use the browser’s built-in print-to-PDF feature. This is general browser guidance, not a portal-specific instruction: exact labels and print results vary by browser and operating system.

- Open the page you want to keep and wait for its relevant content to appear.
- Open the print dialog: commonly press Ctrl+P on Windows or Linux, or Command+P on macOS. You can also use the browser menu’s Print command.
- In the destination or printer selector, choose a built-in PDF option such as Save as PDF.
- Review the preview. Check that the needed text, tables and page sections are present and not clipped.
- Select Save, choose a folder, and give the file a clear name, such as
portal-page-2026-10-03.pdf. - Open the saved file and verify that it contains the page content you intended to keep.
Print settings such as page size, orientation, margins and scale can change pagination and layout. Adjust them only as needed after checking the preview; available controls differ by browser.

Know which PDF you have

Do not describe a browser printout as an official filed return or acknowledgement. When that distinction matters, retain the portal-provided download.

Common problems and what to try
- You cannot find View Filed Forms: The documented service requires a registered user to sign in. Check that you are logged in, then follow e-File > Income Tax Forms > View Filed Forms. Portal menus can change; consult the e-Filing help center if the route is unavailable.
- The expected form is hard to locate: Search by form name or number, and confirm that you selected the relevant filing year before downloading.
- The PDF is missing content or looks misaligned: Reopen the print dialog and inspect its preview. Try a different orientation, scale or margin setting if available, then save and inspect the new file.
- You need the actual acknowledgement or submitted return: A browser printout may not be that record. Look for the portal’s download for the filed return, form or acknowledgement instead.
