In AV-TEST’s April 2026 Windows 11 home-user round, Bitdefender Total Security 27.0 earned the maximum 6/6 for Protection, Performance, and Usability. Bitdefender Total Security also received AV-Comparatives’ Advanced+ award in its February–May 2026 real-world test.
Webroot Essentials remains a reasonable alternative when its device count, operating-system support, feature bundle, or current subscription cost fits you better. However, Webroot was not included in either of those two cited lab rounds, so the results do not constitute a direct, product-to-product defeat. The sensible choice depends on the exact edition, devices, features, renewal price, and how much weight you place on current third-party testing.

What the independent tests actually show
Independent testing is the clearest way to compare security software, but only when the products, editions, versions, dates, and test conditions match. The latest cited evidence favors Bitdefender, while leaving a meaningful gap for Webroot.
AV-TEST: Bitdefender Total Security scored 18 out of 18
AV-TEST evaluated 14 home-user security products for Windows 11 during March and April 2026. Products used their default settings and the most current public versions, and the lab allowed them to update and query cloud services while facing realistic scenarios and current real-world threats.

That is 18/18 possible points. AV-TEST awards up to six points in each category, and its TOP PRODUCT designation begins at 17.5 points. The result therefore indicates that Total Security 27.0 met the lab’s highest thresholds for this specific Windows 11 test period.
This is not a score for every Bitdefender edition. In particular, it should not be presented as an Antivirus Plus result. Different tiers can include different modules, defaults, and resource behavior.
AV-Comparatives: Advanced+ in a separate real-world round
AV-Comparatives announced its consumer Real-World Protection Test for February–May 2026 on 15 June 2026. The test covered 20 home-user security programs. It examined whether threats could alter the test system and also measured false positives.
Bitdefender Total Security was included and received the lab’s highest award level, Advanced+. Bitdefender was one of seven products at that level in this round. Advanced+ is an award category, not a percentage detection score, and it should not be converted into a claim that Bitdefender blocks a particular percentage of threats on every computer.

What Webroot’s absence means
Webroot was not listed in either of these two 2026 rounds. That is an evidence limitation, not proof that Webroot failed, detected less malware, or is unsafe. It simply means these tests cannot supply a matched result for Webroot.
A 2026 TechRadar assessment likewise described major testing laboratories as rarely evaluating Webroot. That secondary observation helps explain why direct comparisons are difficult, but it does not replace primary test data. The fairest wording is: Bitdefender has recent primary-lab results in the cited rounds; Webroot does not have a result in those same samples.

When Webroot’s bundle may make sense
Webroot is easier to justify when you need a straightforward plan for a known number of devices and value its bundled password manager or browser-focused features. It can also be a practical fit if the current price, renewal terms, or installation requirements are better for your systems than the alternatives you are considering.
Those are fit and value arguments, not independent proof of protection parity with Bitdefender. Because the cited labs did not test Webroot, make that distinction before buying.
