First check whether Hindi looks correct in the original browser tab. If it does, compare the saved text with the source before changing fonts: the problem may be text extraction, the destination app’s rendering, or a clip mode that does not preserve the page as expected. Because the clipper and destination are unspecified, there is no single fix; the checks below help locate the failure.
Why Hindi can look different after clipping
Devanagari text is not always rendered as one independent glyph for each character. Characters can combine into conjuncts, dependent vowel signs, and other shaped forms; their appearance depends on character ordering, the font, and the application or system environment. Unicode explains these rendering behaviors in its Indic FAQ.

That means two different problems can look similar: the saved character sequence may be incomplete or changed, or the sequence may be intact while the destination displays it differently. Unicode says that even when a particular font lacks a combination, conformant systems should retain and transmit the unambiguous sequence without distortion; that is not a guarantee that every clipper extracts it correctly or every app renders it well. Start with a short diagnostic check
- Record the setup. Note the page URL, browser and version, operating system, clipper and version, destination app, and whether you saved editable text, a PDF, or an image.
- Check the original page. Open it in the same browser and confirm whether Hindi already looks wrong there. If it does, investigate the page’s own rendering before troubleshooting the clipper.
- Compare the text itself. Copy a short Hindi passage from the page into a plain-text editor, then compare it with the saved note. If characters are missing or the sequence differs, focus on extraction or copying. If the sequence is retained but the glyphs look different, focus on the destination’s font or rendering environment.
- Check the scope. Try another page with Hindi. If only one page fails, the issue may be specific to that page’s structure or content; keep its URL for the clipper vendor.
Try another capture mode
If the source page displays correctly but the saved copy does not, make a second clip using a different mode. For Evernote, the company’s general guidance for incorrect clipping recommends trying another clip type, selecting content manually, using a screenshot, checking browser settings, clearing the cache, and testing another page. - Manual selection: Select just the affected passage and clip it. This can help distinguish a page-wide extraction issue from a problem with a particular region.
- Screenshot or region capture: Use this when preserving the visible appearance matters more than editing the text. Fix the part that is actually failing
If the original page is already wrong
The clipper is not the first place to troubleshoot. Check whether the same page displays correctly in another browser or environment, and whether the problem is limited to that site. If it is, report the page to the site or its support team.
If the copied characters differ or are missing
Try another clip mode, including manual selection. If the problem occurs on only one page, send that page URL to the clipper vendor with the setup details you recorded. Notion notes that websites are built differently, that formatting in Notion can vary, and asks users to provide the URL when content is missing; see Notion’s Web Clipper help.
If the character sequence is intact but the appearance differs
Test the saved content in another destination or rendering environment. The issue may be the destination’s font support or shaping behavior rather than lost text. Unicode notes that font availability and application or system environment can affect Devanagari glyph appearance. Avoid treating a font change as a fix for an extraction problem unless the underlying sequence is intact.
If one page fails but others work
Retest with another capture mode, then report the failing URL to the clipper vendor. Evernote recommends testing another page, and Notion specifically asks for the URL when content is missing. A site-specific failure does not establish that Hindi capture is generally broken.
If several pages fail
Update the browser and clipper, then check the browser or extension settings relevant to that product. Evernote includes ensuring the browser is current and checking browser settings among its general troubleshooting steps. Clear the cache if appropriate for your browser, then test again; these steps are general checks, not confirmed Devanagari-specific remedies.

- Changing fonts before checking the text: First compare the underlying sequence. A font or rendering change will not restore characters that were never extracted.
- Expecting a screenshot to remain editable: Screenshot capture preserves appearance as an image, not as equivalent selectable text.
- Assuming a fix for one clipper applies to all: Modes and settings differ by product. Follow the guidance for the clipper you use and report the exact failing URL when relevant.
- Calling a page-specific failure a Hindi-wide defect: Test other pages before drawing that conclusion.
