vMix vs XSplit Broadcaster for a Nonstop YouTube Playlist Stream

vMix explicitly documents sequential video playback and looping through List. XSplit documents looping slideshows, but not an equivalent automated playlist; neither is a full time-of-day scheduler.
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

For a nonstop YouTube stream that plays local videos sequentially and repeats them, vMix is the better-documented choice. Its List input is designed to advance through video files and loop back to the beginning. XSplit Broadcaster documents looping media slideshows for BRB or sponsor screens, but the available official documentation does not establish that this works as an equivalent sequential playlist. Neither program’s documented looping feature is a full daypart or time-of-day broadcast scheduler.

Which app fits a repeating video playlist?

For this specific workflow, vMix has the clearer documented path: load video files into a List input, enable automatic advancement, and use Loop to restart playback after the final item. XSplit can output to YouTube and documents a looping Media Slideshow, but its described use is displaying images or videos on a BRB or sponsor screen. That does not confirm an automatically advancing, indefinitely repeating video playlist.

This is a comparison of published vendor documentation, not a hands-on performance test. Treat the XSplit playlist behavior as something to verify in the current free version or trial using your intended files and scenes.

How vMix handles a nonstop list

Build one List input

In vMix, add the List input and load the local video files you want to play. The List presents multiple videos as one input, with playback moving from one item to the next. The vMix guide says it need not load every video at once, which can reduce resource use for a large collection. See the vMix List input guide.

#1 Best Overall
Debut Video Capture Software to Record from a Webcam, Computer Screen or Device [Download]
  • Capture video directly to your hard drive
  • Record video in many video file formats including avi, wmv, flv, mpg, 3gp, mp4, mov and more
  • Capture video from a webcam, network IP camera or a video input device (e.g.: VHS recorder)
  • Screen capture software records the entire screen, a single window or any selected portion
  • Digital zoom with the mouse scroll wheel, and drag to scroll the recording window

Enable automatic advancement and looping

Auto Next advances to the next file and is enabled by default in the documented guide. Enable Loop so the list restarts when playback reaches its end. Test the final-to-first transition before leaving the stream unattended, including any desired audio levels and transitions.

Use a Playlist only if you need a sequence of inputs

A vMix Playlist can include a List input as part of a broader playback sequence. That adds basic automation, but does not turn vMix into a television scheduler. vMix states that it does not support time-of-day scheduling or a full 24/7 programming schedule; its support page says it is primarily designed for live-streaming single events. What XSplit documents—and what remains unconfirmed

Media Slideshow

XSplit Broadcaster’s product page describes a Media Slideshow that loops multiple images or videos for a BRB screen or sponsor display. The page also describes YouTube streaming. Those facts establish looping media in a scene, but not a sequential video-list input with automatic advance and repeat. See XSplit Broadcaster.

Scheduled YouTube events are not playlist scheduling

XSplit’s setup guide explains how to create a scheduled event in YouTube Studio and start it through Broadcaster. Scheduling the event’s start is separate from programming a list of videos to advance and loop automatically. Check the intended workflow in XSplit before purchasing on the assumption that it matches vMix List behavior. YouTube live enablement may require channel verification; XSplit’s guide says approval can take up to 24 hours, so check current requirements in YouTube Studio before planning a launch. Compare platform, licensing, and cost

Factor vMix XSplit Broadcaster
Documented playlist behavior List input explicitly supports sequential video playback, Auto Next, and Loop. Documents looping Media Slideshow for BRB/sponsor display; equivalent sequential playlist behavior is not established.
Scheduling Basic looping automation; no time-of-day or full programming schedule, according to vMix. Documents creation and launch of scheduled YouTube events; that does not establish playlist automation.
Platform and minimum requirements Windows production software; see the vendor’s reference system guides. XSplit Support lists Windows 10/11 64-bit and 8 GB RAM. Its system page lists 500 kbps upload for the lowest streaming settings, while its product page recommends 5 Mbps minimum for HD quality; these figures describe different quality contexts. Check the current system requirements and product page.
Vendor-published price Basic HD $60 USD; HD $350 USD; 4K $700 USD; Pro $1,200 USD lifetime; MAX $50 USD/month, on vMix’s comparison page accessed 2026-10-03. Free $0; monthly $14.99/month; yearly $59.99/year; lifetime $119.99 once, on XSplit’s pricing page accessed 2026-10-03. XSplit distinguishes personal-use Free from commercial-use Premium.

Prices and software requirements can change; confirm the current vendor pages before buying. Match the license to the features you need rather than assuming all editions include the same capabilities. XSplit’s Broadcaster pricing comparison and vMix’s license options are the relevant starting points.

Plan for an unattended broadcast

A repeating list automates playback, not the whole broadcast operation. Neither app’s loop feature guarantees uninterrupted service. Actual continuity depends on the configured computer, power, network, software behavior, and YouTube session. The comparison here does not establish tested uptime, automatic recovery after a dropped stream, or resilience to Windows updates and network failures.

  • Consider what will happen if the computer reboots, loses power, or the connection drops; the documented playlist features alone do not resolve those cases.
  • Use only media you have the right to stream. A playback feature does not grant permission to rebroadcast someone else’s videos or music, and this comparison does not establish that a particular use complies with YouTube rules.
