Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteIf a YouTube live stream gets stuck buffering in VLC on Airtel broadband, first open the same stream in YouTube’s app or a current browser on the same device and connection. If it buffers there too, check the connection, Wi-Fi, household bandwidth, stream quality, and YouTube playback before changing VLC. If only VLC buffers, try its network-caching setting as a cautious, reversible test.
First, find out whether the problem is VLC or the connection
Use the same live stream, device, and Airtel connection for this comparison. It is a useful diagnostic clue, not proof of a specific fault.

- Open the stream in YouTube’s app or a current browser. If it buffers in both places, focus first on the connection, Wi-Fi, other devices using bandwidth, stream quality, or YouTube.
- Try another internet connection if available. If the same stream plays smoothly there, that points toward something about the Airtel connection or its local network path, but does not establish throttling or an Airtel outage.
- Compare another YouTube live stream. If only one stream has trouble, the stream itself or its delivery may be involved. If several streams have trouble, a shared playback or network cause becomes more plausible.
- If YouTube plays smoothly but VLC does not, investigate VLC’s version, settings, and handling of that stream. This narrows the search; it does not identify a single cause.
YouTube Help advises trying another internet connection for buffering or loading problems. Airtel likewise recommends testing another connection when speed is low.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsCheck whether Wi-Fi or shared use is the bottleneck
Repeat the test near the router
Try playback close to the router, then compare it with the original location. A difference suggests that Wi-Fi coverage or interference may matter. It does not show that Airtel’s broadband service is at fault.

Compare Wi-Fi with Ethernet, if practical
If your computer and router support it, connect them with an RJ45 Cat5 or Cat6 cable and repeat the same playback test. Airtel recommends a wired connection as a way to get a faster, more stable link. Ethernet is a diagnostic comparison, not a guaranteed fix for a YouTube, VLC, or broadband-side issue. You do not need to buy a cable if you already have a suitable one.
Reduce competing traffic temporarily
Pause high-bandwidth activities—such as other video streams or large downloads—and disconnect devices that do not need to be online. Then retry the stream. Airtel recommends checking how many devices share the connection; this test can show whether shared use is contributing without proving it is the only cause.

Reduce playback demand and clear simple app issues
- Lower the YouTube playback quality temporarily. In the YouTube app or browser, choose a lower quality and see whether buffering changes. Airtel notes that higher resolution generally needs more speed or bandwidth. A lower setting is a test, not a permanent requirement.
- Close unnecessary tabs and applications. Also check whether other devices are using the connection. Retry the same stream after reducing competing use.
- Restart the playback app and device. If you are watching in the YouTube app, YouTube Help recommends clearing the app cache for buffering or loading problems. The cache-clearing path differs by device and operating system.
- Compare at another time. If playback is worse only during busy periods, congestion is one possible explanation. YouTube Help notes that “Network congestion and other factors may also cause live programming issues, which can delay the stream.” That statement concerns live programming generally; it does not diagnose your connection.
YouTube Help’s TV troubleshooting section recommends a minimum connection speed of 7 Mbps for HD streaming on TV. Treat that figure as scoped to that recommendation—not a universal threshold for all live streams, devices, or VLC playback.

Try VLC network caching only if the evidence points to VLC
Increasing VLC’s network cache gives it more data to prebuffer before playback. Third-party VLC guides for VLC 3.0.x suggest testing approximately 3000–6000 ms. These are guide suggestions, not an official VideoLAN prescription or a guaranteed fix; the controls can vary between VLC versions and platforms. A larger cache can make playback start later, and it cannot make a down or inaccessible stream available.

- WORKS WITH YOUR EXISTING INTERNET SERVICE: Pairs with your existing modem or gateway via ethernet. Compatible with most cable, fiber, DSL, and satellite providers. Some gateways and modem router combos may require bridge mode. No coax needed.
- SET UP AND MANAGE YOUR NETWORK WITH THE NIGHTHAWK APP: Download the free Nighthawk app on iOS or Android for guided setup. Manage WiFi, run speed tests, pause devices, and set up guest networks from anywhere. Active internet required.
- READY FOR THE DEVICES YOU ALREADY OWN: Your phones, laptops, and TVs work right out of the box. WiFi 6 delivers speeds up to 1.8 Gbps across 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. Backward compatible with WiFi 5 and earlier.
- COVERAGE IN EVERY ROOM: Covers up to 1,500 sq. ft. for up to 20 connected devices. Walls, floors, and interference can reduce range. Larger or multi-story homes may benefit from a NETGEAR Orbi mesh WiFi system.
- Open VLC’s Preferences.
- Choose Input/Codecs, then find Access modules and select Network. The precise location or label may differ in your VLC version.
- Find Network caching (ms). If it is available, try a value within the third-party guides’ suggested 3000–6000 ms range. Change only this setting for the test.
- Save the preference, restart VLC, and test the same stream again. Compare startup delay and whether buffering continues.
- If playback gets worse or the change makes no useful difference, restore the previous value and continue with the other comparisons.
These cache steps are based on third-party guidance from vlc.cc, not official VideoLAN documentation. Do not treat a larger cache as a substitute for checking the stream or connection.
Check the Airtel router or fiber equipment
Airtel’s Xstream Fiber guidance recommends checking ONT/router indicator lights and cable connections, then restarting the equipment if needed. These are general troubleshooting steps, not a verified diagnosis of an individual subscriber’s service.

- If you restart the equipment, disconnect its power for 15–20 seconds, reconnect it, and allow the connection to re-establish before testing again.
- For Wi-Fi, try a more central router location, away from a closed box or corner. Airtel notes that 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands have different coverage and speed trade-offs; compare the available band that works best at your location.
- If available in your Airtel Thanks app, Airtel’s published path is Broadband > My Wi-Fi > Wi-Fi > Optimize Wi-Fi.
- If the problem persists, contact Airtel support. Airtel’s fiber guidance lists customer care at 121 from the registered mobile number.
What to record before contacting support
Keep a short set of observations so you can describe the failure rather than report only that the stream buffers:
- Whether the same stream buffers in VLC, YouTube’s app, and a browser.
- Whether it happens on one device or several, and on Wi-Fi, Ethernet, or both.
- Whether other YouTube live streams behave the same way.
- Whether pausing other household internet use or lowering playback quality changes anything.
- Whether playback differs at another time or on another internet connection.
These comparisons help identify which layer to investigate next. On their own, they do not prove an ISP fault, throttling, or a local outage.
