The Vissles LP85 is a compact, low-profile keyboard for Mac and other devices that combines an Apple-like layout with clicky optical switches, RGB backlighting and both Bluetooth and USB-C connectivity. It is a plausible Magic Keyboard alternative if you want more tactile feedback and lighting; it is less compelling if you need a quiet, adjustable, lightweight keyboard or plan to swap keycaps and switches.
What the LP85 is—and what it is not
The LP85 is a 75% keyboard with 85 keys, an aluminum chassis and low-profile optical switches. Vissles presents it as an Apple Magic Keyboard-style option, but its mechanical-style click and RGB lighting make it a different typing experience rather than a direct replacement for every Magic Keyboard configuration.

Its compact layout does not include a numeric keypad. Vissles offers Mac and Windows layout choices, and says the keyboard supports Mac, Windows, Android and iOS. The maker lists an anodized aluminum chassis weighing 1.2 lb, a thinnest section of 0.31 inches, and 19 dynamic plus 8 monochrome backlight modes. Those are manufacturer specifications, not independent measurements.

For the sound and feel, reviewer accounts are useful but personal. AppleToolBox’s Andrew Myrick, in a review last updated January 10, 2022, found the LP85 louder than Apple’s Magic Keyboard but quieter than a conventional mechanical keyboard in his experience. The 9to5Toys reviewer described a clicky sound and reported making more typing errors than on his familiar Drop ALT; that is one person’s experience, not evidence of a general accuracy problem.

Switch specifications and typing experience
Vissles specifies 1.2 mm actuation distance and 2.5 mm total travel for the LP85’s X-optical switches. These are the manufacturer’s figures, not independent test results. 9to5Toys also reported a 50 g actuation force in its November 2021 review; treat that as a review-era figure rather than a current independent measurement.
The short actuation distance and low-profile design may appeal if you want a compact keyboard with more pronounced feedback than Apple’s. The audible click and fixed typing angle are real trade-offs for shared rooms, quiet work, or anyone who prefers to tune keyboard tilt.

Mac compatibility, layout and key placement
Vissles says the LP85 supports Mac, Windows, Android and iOS, and sells Mac- and Windows-layout versions. Its FAQ lists Fn+A to switch to Mac/iOS mode and Fn+S to switch to Windows mode. These shortcuts and layout options make cross-device use possible, but they do not mean the keyboard has identical key placement to Apple’s board.
AppleToolBox reviewer Andrew Myrick noted a learning curve around the Fn key: its position on the left may be where an Apple-layout typist expects Option. If you rely on modifier-key muscle memory, check the layout carefully and allow time to adjust before deciding whether it suits your workflow.

Bluetooth pairing, lighting and battery estimates
Pair over Bluetooth
- Switch the keyboard to Bluetooth mode.
- Hold Fn+P for five seconds to enter pairing mode. The P key should flash white.
- Select the LP85 in the Bluetooth settings on the device you want to connect.
Vissles says the LP85 can pair with up to three Bluetooth devices. It also supports USB-C wired use, useful when you prefer a direct connection.
Control the backlight
- Press Fn+Del to cycle dynamic lighting effects.
- Press Fn+Right Arrow to cycle monochrome lighting modes.
- Press Fn+Up or Fn+Down to adjust brightness.
Battery life
Vissles lists a 2,000 mAh lithium-polymer battery and estimates up to 6 days over Bluetooth with backlighting off, or up to 3.5 days with RGB lighting. These are manufacturer estimates and will vary with use; they are not independent battery-test results.

Can you replace the LP85’s keycaps or switches?
No, not according to Vissles: the company says the LP85’s keycaps and switches cannot be replaced. It also warns that unauthorized removal or modification may damage parts or void the warranty. Do not assume that standard replacement keycap sets or switches will fit.

Is the LP85 in stock, and what does it cost?
Current availability and price are unclear from Vissles’ own pages. The product page showed a price and shipping within 7–10 days, while the catalog labeled the keyboard as pre-order and sold out. Those signals conflict, so check the live product page before relying on a price, delivery estimate or stock status. Prices reported in 2021–2022 launch reviews are historical and should not be treated as current.
What historical reviewers found
MacRumors’ Tim Hardwick reviewed the LP85 on November 9, 2021. He described tactile feedback and said his unit occasionally missed a keystroke when a wireless mouse caused Bluetooth interference; removing the mouse resolved the issue. That is a report about his setup, not proof that LP85 keyboards generally have a keystroke problem.
AppleToolBox’s review, last updated January 10, 2022, highlighted the louder-than-Apple sound, Fn-key learning curve and non-adjustable angle. 9to5Toys’ Jordan Druber wrote on November 23, 2021, about the clicky sound and his personal typing errors compared with a familiar keyboard. These accounts are useful context, but they are dated impressions rather than current independent testing.
