Battleplan is an operational World War II strategy game: you direct formations in battle-sized scenarios rather than running a national economy or diplomacy system. Read the briefing first, use the attack and defence predictions before committing, and let terrain, frontage, supply routes, and campaign deployment limits determine where your force can take risks.
What Victory Battleplan is—and what it is not
Victory Battleplan operates at the battlefield level. Each scenario represents a particular World War II action, generally covering about two weeks, and asks you to plan operations for formations rather than manage an entire country. Your decisions concern regimental assignments, combined-arms support, artillery, fortifications, reserves, and the timing of attacks.

The publisher’s October 2, 2026 campaign preview announced 11 historical missions, running from the D-Day landings through Operation Varsity, plus two tutorial levels. Those are announced launch details, not a guarantee that later patches or editions will contain exactly the same package. The campaign also connects battles: army customization, officer recruitment, historical-unit unlocks, and consequences between missions affect what you can field next.

A useful mental model is an operations staff map. You decide which formations belong in each part of the front, which units should support them, where to accept risk, and when to preserve combat power. Victory is not automatically achieved by capturing the same kind of territory in every scenario; the current mission briefing and objective panel are authoritative.

Set up your campaign before the first battle
- Create your officer. The campaign begins with a fictional officer. That character leads your corps and provides the command identity for the force you build.
- Select a country. Your choice determines the starting division. The campaign can recruit formations from the United States, United Kingdom, and Canada, so the opening choice influences your initial roster rather than locking you out of every other nationality.
- Review the initial division. Before the first tutorial, you receive an infantry division containing infantry, anti-tank guns, artillery, engineers, anti-air guns, and several headquarters. This is a functioning combined-arms foundation, not a reason to deploy every element in one stack.
- Put officers in headquarters. Formations require an officer-led headquarters. Check the command assignment before deployment; a headquarters without its required officer cannot perform the same command role as a properly staffed formation.
- Track deployment weight. Each mission sets a total deployment weight. Restructuring units or recruiting additional formations must fit that scenario limit, so a powerful roster can still be unusable if its selected elements exceed the allowance.
- Spend requisition deliberately. Completing missions earns requisition for additional formations. Historical divisions and officers become recruitable after missions in which they appeared, and you can also create custom formations. Save requisition for a capability the next briefing actually requires instead of buying a duplicate support role.
Know what every unit contributes
Battleplan’s support system rewards a mixed force. The developer’s Combined Arms diary says that different unit types within roughly one square kilometre grant nearby friendly units stat bonuses. A unit does not provide its own same-type bonus to itself, and support bonuses do not stack, so placing three identical support providers together does not multiply one effect. The goal is complementary coverage.
| Unit or group | Nearby support effect | Beginner use |
|---|---|---|
| Infantry, mechanized infantry, and paratroopers | Infantry support, including defence and morale bonuses. | Anchor towns, woods, objectives, and prepared defensive lines; use mechanized or airborne troops where their mobility or scenario role matters. |
| Light and medium tanks | Tank support, including damage and morale bonuses. | Provide mobile striking power and help a supported formation break a defended position. |
| Heavy tanks | A larger damage bonus plus defence and morale support. | Use as an expensive assault or counterattack component where the zone can exploit their protection and firepower. |
| Engineers | Mine immunity for friendly units, mine clearing, stronger fortification destruction, and improved entrenchment. | Lead or accompany attacks through mined ground and improve positions that must hold. |
| Scouts and reconnaissance | Movement support; reconnaissance can reveal spotted enemies beyond the frontline. | Improve operational tempo and expose threats before the main body commits. |
| Anti-tank guns and artillery | Support-gun benefits. Artillery also delivers long-range barrages. | Use anti-tank guns against armored approaches and artillery to soften or disrupt distant positions. |
| Headquarters | Support to nearby friendly units and command for the formation when staffed by an officer. | Keep headquarters close enough to support the plan but protected from unnecessary frontline exposure. |
The June 12, 2026 developer diary gives these example values for the support radius: infantry support adds 20% defence and 30% morale; light- or medium-tank support adds 25% damage and 30% morale; heavy-tank support adds 50% damage, 10% defence, and 50% morale; scout support adds 50% movement speed. These are developer-published 2026 game figures and can change with patches. Treat the values as planning guidance, then trust the current in-game information.
Do not read the table as a recipe for one permanent “best” formation. A tank-heavy group may be ideal for a breakthrough but inefficient in a swamp. Engineers are more valuable when mines or strong fortifications dominate the route. Scouts matter more when movement and enemy visibility are limiting factors. The correct mix changes with the objective, terrain, and available deployment weight.
Read objectives before assigning troops
Battleplan does not establish one universal victory condition for every mission. One scenario may emphasize a route, depot, defensive line, or other operational objective; another may impose different timing or territorial requirements. At the start of each battle, open the mission briefing and read the current objective list before drawing zones or committing reserves. Do not assume that eliminating every opposing unit or capturing every visible position is always necessary.
Use the briefing to answer four questions:
- What must be held, reached, cleared, or protected?
- Is there a time limit or sequence that makes an early advance more important than a perfect encirclement?
- Which routes, depots, or high-ground positions control access to the objective?
- Where can you accept a temporary loss of ground without abandoning the actual win condition?
These answers determine how much force belongs in each zone. A zone that is irrelevant to the objective should not consume the same number of regiments as the decisive approach.

Use Regimental Plans and Zone Orders
Zone Orders are an optional command method alongside the earlier Timeline orders. They are most useful when you want a readable spatial plan: each area you draw is divided into zones according to the regiments assigned to it.
- Open the Regimental Plan. Start from the battle map and choose the plan for the formations you intend to employ.
- Draw the operating area. Mark the portion of the front where the selected regiments will act. The game divides that area into zones based on the regimental allocation.
- Assign regiments to zones. Put enough combat power in the decisive zone while avoiding a paper-thin line elsewhere. Headquarters and support elements can be held in a safer reserve area rather than exposed at the point of contact.
- Select a tactic. Seize Ground is the aggressive advance option. Balanced Hold advances when the developer-described flank and local-strength conditions are favorable: the flanks should be secure and the units should not be outnumbered.
- Inspect the zone information panel. The panel estimates attack and defence outcomes from the allocated units and local enemy strength. It also shows participating divisions, soldier counts, elevation change, and difficult terrain.
- Correct weak plans before execution. If the attack prediction is poor, allocate more troops, reduce the zone’s size, change the tactic, or choose a more favorable approach. A broad order with inadequate local strength is not made safe by a confident name.
- Monitor execution. Zone boundaries can be adjusted as the battle develops. Reassign effort when a flank fails, a route opens, or the original objective becomes less important than preserving a formation.
The key distinction between the two order systems is control style. Timeline orders emphasize when actions occur; Zone Orders emphasize where regiments act and what local conditions must be met. Use whichever presents the plan clearly, and do not issue both systems as if they were independent armies competing for the same units.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesThe developer describes the system this way: “We have a new way of issuing orders – ZONE ORDERS. This is an OPTIONAL way of commanding your troops in addition to the previously described TIMELINE orders.”
Plan attacks around local strength, not the whole army
Battleplan evaluates a planned attack in its zone, not by the abstract size of your entire corps. Before ordering an advance, compare the troops allocated to that zone with the opposing local force shown in the prediction panel. If the result is unfavorable, adding a regiment from a quiet sector or narrowing the zone can be more effective than spreading the entire army thinly.
Build the assault in layers:
- Reconnaissance first: use scouts to improve movement support and reveal spotted enemies beyond the frontline.
- Suppress or disrupt: artillery can barrage from range. Its effect weakens as enemies seek cover, so do not expect one barrage to erase a defended position.
- Break the obstacle: engineers help clear mines and destroy fortifications more effectively.
- Commit the combat arm: tanks add damage and morale support; heavy tanks add the strongest listed damage, defence, and morale package but should be protected from unsuitable terrain and isolated fights.
- Secure the result: infantry and headquarters keep the captured or cleared area connected to the wider plan, while a reserve covers a counterattack.
Support is local. A tank positioned several zones away does not help merely because it belongs to the same division. Keep complementary types within the stated approximate one-square-kilometre support distance, and remember that the non-stacking rule rewards variety rather than duplicate providers.

Defend in depth during deployment
Deployment is an active decision, not a waiting screen. Units positioned before the mission starts gain fortifications, so place the force where you intend to resist rather than moving everything immediately after the opening signal.
| Defensive factor | Effect and practical choice |
|---|---|
| Towns and forests | Improve defence and firepower but reduce movement. Use them for anchors and strongpoints when speed is less important than staying power. |
| Swamps and wetlands | Can impose broad penalties. Treat them as costly avenues unless the objective or enemy pressure makes the route unavoidable. |
| Beaches | Can impose broad penalties and often expose units. Avoid making an open beach your only defensive line when a shorter or covered position exists. |
| Higher ground | Improves visibility and provides firepower and defence benefits. Occupy it when it supports the objective and does not create an unsustainable frontage. |
| Fortifications | Improve defence and firepower. Stationary units dig them, and engineers dig more effective positions; combat wears them down. |
| Artillery and air attacks | Can damage fortifications faster, making a static position less permanent than its initial strength suggests. |
| Minefields | Penalize units moving through them. Engineers can lay or clear mines and provide mine immunity to friendly units. |
Do not try to hold every metre of the map with too few troops. A line that is too wide leaves gaps, weakens local support, and makes every breakthrough difficult to contain. Giving up some ground to shorten the front can preserve the objective and create a stronger concentration.
Keep a reserve behind the line. Its job is to respond to a breakthrough, protect a route or depot, reinforce a threatened objective, or counterattack after the enemy has exposed a flank. A reserve that is already committed everywhere is not a reserve.
The developer’s defence diary summarizes the danger with the deliberately non-authenticated attribution “Defending everything is the same as defending nothing.” It is presented as “Sun Tzu, probably,” not as a verified historical quotation.
Use artillery, engineers, and headquarters as a system
Artillery is valuable because it can influence a zone before direct contact, but barrages are not a substitute for occupying ground. Firepower falls as defenders find cover, and repeated combat degrades fortifications. Time artillery support so that the assaulting formation can exploit the disruption instead of allowing the enemy to recover.

Engineers solve several different problems. They clear or lay mines, improve entrenchment, and help destroy fortifications. Include them where the map makes those tasks decisive; placing every engineer in a safe rear area wastes their specialized advantages.
Headquarters provide nearby support and command a formation only when an officer is assigned. Protect them from needless exposure while keeping them close enough to the units they must support. If a formation behaves unexpectedly, check its headquarters and officer assignment before changing the entire battle plan.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Campaign progression and between-battle decisions
Every mission is also a force-development decision. Requisition earned from completed missions lets you recruit formations, while historical divisions and officers unlock after the missions in which they appeared. Custom formations offer flexibility when the standard roster does not match a scenario’s deployment weight or terrain.
Because each mission imposes a total deployment weight, compare a new formation’s capability with the cost of bringing it into the next battle. A cheaper infantry reinforcement may be more useful than another specialized unit if the immediate problem is holding a long but quiet line. Conversely, a mission dominated by armor, mines, or difficult movement can justify spending requisition on the corresponding specialist.

A repeatable first-mission routine
- Read the briefing and write down the exact objective, timing, and protected routes or depots.
- Check the deployment-weight limit and identify which formations are eligible and properly officer-led.
- Mark terrain that improves defence or visibility and terrain that imposes movement or combat penalties.
- Place the initial defensive line and a reserve during deployment so fortifications begin working for you.
- Draw Regimental Plan zones around the objective rather than around the map’s entire width.
- Mix infantry, armor, engineers, scouts, support guns, artillery, and headquarters according to the local problem; do not duplicate one support type expecting bonuses to stack.
- Read every attack and defence prediction. Narrow weak zones or reinforce them before selecting Seize Ground.
- Use Balanced Hold where the flanks and local numbers support a controlled advance.
- During execution, watch for damaged fortifications, uncovered flanks, minefields, and enemy movement beyond the frontline.
- After the battle, spend requisition only after considering the next mission’s objective, terrain, and deployment weight.
Common beginner mistakes and fixes
Stacking identical units
Symptom: several units of the same type sit together while another support role is absent. Fix: add distinct types within support range; same-type support does not apply to itself and the bonuses do not stack.
Attacking a zone that looks strong on the strategic map
Symptom: the whole army is large, but the zone panel predicts a poor attack. Fix: compare local soldier counts, add troops, narrow the zone, or choose a different approach.
Holding an impossible frontage
Symptom: every sector has a token unit and a breakthrough cannot be contained. Fix: give up low-value ground, shorten the line, and place a reserve behind the decisive sector.

Symptom: an advance stalls in wetlands, on a beach, or below a defended ridge. Fix: inspect elevation and difficult-terrain information, then reroute or allocate engineers and artillery before committing the main force.
Leaving headquarters or officers exposed—or unassigned
Symptom: a formation lacks expected command support. Fix: confirm that its headquarters has an officer and move the headquarters to a protected but useful supporting position.
Assuming every mission has the same win condition
Symptom: troops pursue visible territory while the listed objective is elsewhere. Fix: return to the briefing and current objective panel; let those instructions, not a generic capture-everything plan, control deployment.
How to interpret changing values and future patches
The unit bonuses, support distance, mission package, and campaign systems described here come from official publisher and developer materials released in 2025 and 2026. The percentage bonuses and the announced 11-mission, two-tutorial launch package are especially vulnerable to balance or content changes. There has been no independent gameplay testing established for these figures. When your installed version differs, use the current in-game prediction panels and mission briefing as the final authority.
