A Fitbit vibrates for alarms, notifications, and activity reminders, but only when the device’s vibration is turned on and no quiet mode or phone-side setting is blocking the alert. If your Fitbit is silent, check the vibration strength, Do Not Disturb and Sleep Mode, phone notification delivery, and alarm setup in that order. Only after those checks should you run the motor test for your exact model.
Google Health Help Center’s page “Why didn’t my Fitbit device alert me?” states the purpose plainly: “Your Fitbit device vibrates to alert you at various times, including if you set an alarm, when you hit your step goal, or if you haven’t met your hourly activity goal.” The steps below follow that logic, moving from the easiest fixes to the hardware test.

Start by identifying your Fitbit model
Menus, alarm setup, and motor tests differ across Fitbit device families, so confirm your exact model before following any path below. The model name is printed on the device’s band or case, and it also appears in the Google Health app under your device details. Official Google Health help pages group models differently for each task, so the same model can appear in more than one section. When a step depends on your model, this article says so.

1. Adjust vibration strength
On models that offer the control, open Settings on the Fitbit and look for Vibrations or Vibration. Google Health describes this setting as adjusting vibration strength. The exact label and the path to reach it vary by model, and Google Health does not publish a numeric intensity scale, so compare the feel of the vibration rather than expecting a set percentage. Not every model has this control. If you cannot find it, move on to the next check; the absence of the setting does not mean the motor is broken.

2. Turn off modes that silence alerts
Two modes can stop notifications from making the device vibrate:
- Do Not Disturb suppresses notifications, goal celebrations, heart-zone alerts, and reminders to move.
- Sleep Mode suppresses notification vibration and screen wake. Some models can schedule Sleep Mode, so a device that worked earlier in the day may go quiet at night without any change on your part.
Check both on the device. Quiet-mode controls differ between models, so look for the mode’s own menu item rather than assuming it sits in the same place on every tracker.

Make sure phone notifications reach the Fitbit
Notifications from your phone depend on the connection between the two devices and on settings on the phone itself. Work through these checks:
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
- Bluetooth connection: confirm the Fitbit is paired and connected to the phone you are testing.
- Distance: Google Health’s notification guidance says the phone must stay within 30 feet of the Fitbit. This is the published support figure, not a guaranteed range; walls, interference, and phone placement can shorten it.
- Phone notification permissions: confirm the Google Health app is allowed to show notifications.
- Phone quiet modes: Do Not Disturb, focus modes, and driving mode can stop notifications from being forwarded.
- Android only: the Google Health help page describes an Always Vibrate option in the device’s Notifications settings within the Google Health app. The documentation presents this as an Android control. Do not assume an equivalent setting exists on an iPhone.
Troubleshoot an alarm that did not vibrate
Alarm setup depends on the model, which is the most common reason readers find conflicting instructions. Google Health directs users to set alarms on the device itself for Charge 3 through Charge 6, Inspire 3, Luxe, Sense-series, and Versa-series models. Other devices are configured through the Google Health app. Check where your alarm was created before assuming it failed.

- Low battery on older Versa models: Google Health says alarms on Versa, Versa Lite Edition, and Versa 2 will not go off when the battery is below 8%. Charge the device and confirm the alarm again. This limit is listed for those three models only.
- Separate alarm apps: the help page notes that alarms set in the Alarms app on Sense, Sense 2, Versa 2, Versa 3, and Versa 4 are separate from alarms set through a voice assistant. An alarm created by voice may not appear in the Alarms app, and the reverse is also true.
- Quiet modes: an alarm can still be affected by the modes described above, so confirm Do Not Disturb and Sleep Mode are not overriding it.
Run the motor test for your model
If the settings are correct and the device still does not vibrate, use Google Health’s model-specific motor test. The help page assigns each family a different procedure:
| Model family (as listed by Google Health) | Official test procedure |
|---|---|
| Charge series, Inspire series, Luxe, Sense series, Versa 3, Versa 4, Flex 2 | Connect the device to the charging cable and follow the test on the help page |
| Ace 2, Ace 3 | Connect the device to the charging cable and follow the test on the help page |
| Ace series and Alta series | Charging-cable button procedure described on the help page |
| Blaze, Versa, Versa Lite Edition, Versa 2 | Timer stopwatch test |
The help page lists the Ace line under two different procedures, so confirm which one applies to your exact Ace model before you start. If the test does not produce vibration, Google Health says to contact Customer Support. A failed test is a reason to get professional help, not proof that a specific part will fix the device.

The cable-based tests need a charging cable compatible with your model. If you do not have one, a replacement cable can be used to run the test, but a replacement cable does not repair a faulty motor.

When to stop troubleshooting
Stop at the motor test if every settings and notification check passes and the device still gives no vibration on the prescribed test. At that point, contact Customer Support through Google Health and include your exact model, the test you ran, and the result. Keep in mind that the help pages do not publish repair timelines or outcomes, so a support conversation is the only route to a definitive answer on hardware faults.
