Valor Mortis, a first-person Soulslike from One More Level, is scheduled to launch on October 13, 2026. What is Valor Mortis?
Valor Mortis is a supernatural reimagining of 19th-century Europe during the Napoleonic Wars. You play William Dowsett, a resurrected soldier of the Grande Armée who wakes amid a spreading plague. The story brings him into contact with Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte, whose voice he hears, and the Shrike, a rebel leader opposing the Empire in occupied Eastern Europe.

One More Level, the studio behind the Ghostrunner series, describes the game as a first-person Soulslike. Its announced combat includes swords, firearms, supernatural abilities, stamina management, parries, high-mobility encounters, and boss fights. Exploration takes place in historically inspired environments. The developer also says dynamic field-of-view scaling is intended to make large bosses easier to read during combat.

When does Valor Mortis come out, and where can you play it?
The announced release date is October 13, 2026. Lyrical Games confirmed the date and launch platforms in an August 25, 2026 press release; One More Level repeated it in a September 30 announcement. The game is scheduled for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam. The publisher says it will be available on Xbox Game Pass on launch day.

The developer has also said the physical-disc version is ready for printing. That does not establish which platform editions will be sold on disc, whether retailers have listed them, or whether copies are in stock. Check a live retailer listing for the specific edition before buying.

The developer describes the story DLC as planned for the year after launch and says multiple free updates are planned. Those are future plans, not content available at launch or a guarantee of a particular release schedule.

The choice depends on how you access games and which platform you own. The publisher has announced day-one Xbox Game Pass availability; the available announcement does not specify subscription tiers, duration, or whether access will continue indefinitely. The announced purchase prices are for the Standard and Deluxe Editions, with the Deluxe Edition adding planned post-launch content and cosmetics.

What to know about the demo
One More Level says its Steam demo used bespoke versions of chapters and did not include all the optimization, balancing, and bug fixes intended for the full release. The developer also explained that General Lothaire appeared roughly 30 minutes into the demo, before players had much time to learn the combat. In the full game, the studio intends that boss to appear at the end of Chapter II, after players have had more time with the mechanics and character leveling.
That explanation is the developer’s account, not an independent assessment of the demo or final game. One More Level has also said demo feedback highlighted the first-person combat, parries, challenging bosses, and Napoleonic setting; the studio did not establish that feedback as a representative poll. In an August 2026 announcement, the developer said hundreds of thousands of players had tried the playtest and demo versions, a studio-reported figure rather than an independently audited count.
