To approach it, follow the game’s usual rhythm: advance through a biome’s resources and Forsaken boss before moving on. In the Deep North, the current guide’s route to Kall Fimbulbringer runs through village ruins, Hidden Tunnels, Intricate Keys and Morkhalla. Valheim 1.0, which added the biome, launched on September 9, 2026.
Where the Deep North fits in progression
Valheim’s progression is built around biomes, their distinct crafting resources and the Forsaken bosses associated with them. Iron Gate describes the pattern this way: “Every biome comes with its own difficulty and unique resources for crafting armour and weapons.” See Iron Gate’s Valheim FAQ for its overview. The post-launch progression checklist places the Deep North after the Ashlands; it is a late-game destination, not a beginner’s starting biome.

Iron Gate announced Valheim 1.0 and the Deep North launch for September 9, 2026. Its abbreviated launch notes list 40-plus new weapons, four armor sets, 10-plus creatures, 30-plus crafting materials and 20-plus food items, alongside new locations and mechanics. These are developer-published counts, not a guide to what you need to craft first. Read Iron Gate’s Valheim 1.0 announcement and patch notes.

What to look for in the Deep North
Resources to recognize
PC Gamer’s September 11, 2026 updated resource checklist names Timberwood and Timberwood Cone; Snowballs and Ice/Liquid Frost; Petrified Tissue and Bloodgold; Memorial Coal, Embers, Frostfire Essence and Thunderblood Essence; Lingonberries, Oats, Poteitr Seeds and Kale Seeds; and materials from creatures, including Moose Sinew, Moose Meat, Moose Hide, Seal Blubber, Seal Pelt, Elaking Hair Bundle and Long Claws. It also lists Frozen Branch, Leather Straps, Nornathread, Dead Pulp, Frostcore and Larva. Use this as a recognition checklist, not a complete crafting reference: it does not establish every recipe, gathering route or item priority. See PC Gamer’s Deep North guide.

Terrain and building considerations
In a March 2026 preview, Iron Gate described lingonberries harvested in woods and used in food recipes, slippery ice, and deep snow that must be cleared before building. The preview said a craftable shovel would be available for clearing snow. Those details help explain the terrain, but do not amount to a complete survival loadout. See Iron Gate’s Deep North preview.
How to follow the tunnel and boss-material route
The current post-launch guide describes a chain through village ruins and dungeons. Treat it as a navigation aid, and check current in-game descriptions in case a later patch changes requirements.

- STANDALONE & STREAMLINED: A standalone game in the Black Orchestra series with quicker and simpler gameplay for a fast-paced, accessible experience.
- SOLO & COOPERATIVE PLAY: Work together with friends or play on your own to defeat the Gestapo and complete your mission.
- END HITLER'S REIGN OF TERROR: Focuses on the core objective of a single, high-stakes mission—assassinating Hitler with explosives.
- NEW STRATEGIC ELEMENTS: Introduces new mechanics and a more direct gameplay loop, while maintaining the core tension of the original game.
- HIGHLY REPLAYABLE: With a variety of items, allies, and locations, every mission feels fresh and challenging.
- Search village ruins. Check large, two-story buildings for possible pits leading down to Hidden Tunnels.
- Look for moulds. The tunnels may contain moulds used to make Intricate Keys or for gear upgrades.
- Use an Intricate Key at Morkhalla. The guide says the key opens a Morkhalla door.
- Repeat the tunnel-and-Morkhalla route three times. According to the guide, this yields enough Jotun raids and Malicious Blood for the next step.
- Summon Kall Fimbulbringer. Offer three Malicious Blood at the Strange Bowl. The guide lists Sacrificial Blood and Crown Jewel as rewards.
The tunnel, key and boss-material details come from PC Gamer’s post-launch checklist, rather than Iron Gate’s abbreviated patch notes. The available information does not establish a gear threshold, best-in-slot equipment, exact combat tactics or an optimal gathering route, so this guide does not prescribe one.

Will the Deep North appear in an existing world?
New fixed world content—including terrain, buildings and dungeons—applies only to previously unexplored areas, according to Iron Gate. Its FAQ defines an unexplored area as one no player has entered, within an approximate radius of 500 metres. In an older save, travel to areas your characters have not visited; starting a new world is another option. Iron Gate’s FAQ explains world updates and unexplored areas.
