In V Rising, make Glass by unlocking the recipe from Grethel the Glassblower, then smelting Quartz in a Furnace. The standard recipe consumes 20 Quartz for one Glass and takes 60 seconds; with the listed floor bonus, it uses 15 Quartz and takes 48 seconds. What you need before making Glass
Glass is not an early-game handcraft. Its recipe is tied to Grethel the Glassblower, a V Blood unlock source associated with the Quartz Mine/Glassblower progression milestone. If Glass does not appear in your Furnace recipes, the usual explanation is that this unlock has not been completed on your character or server.

- A character who has unlocked the Glass recipe through Grethel the Glassblower.
- Access to a Furnace, or an Advanced Furnace if that station exposes the recipe on your server version.
- Quartz in your available materials.
- Enough time and fuel capacity to process the Quartz. The listed base processing time is 60 seconds per Glass.
The unlock and recipe tables can change with patches or server settings. If the names, costs or stations differ in your game, use the active server version as the final authority rather than an older item page.
How to make Glass in V Rising
- Unlock Grethel’s reward. Progress to the Quartz Mine/Glassblower milestone and defeat Grethel the Glassblower so the Glass recipe becomes available.
- Open a Furnace. Use an existing Furnace in your castle, or an Advanced Furnace if that station lists Glass for your version.
- Select Glass in the recipe list. Confirm that the input is Quartz and check the quantity shown by your station.
- Load Quartz. The standard listing consumes 20 Quartz for one Glass. The listing with the floor bonus shows 15 Quartz for one Glass.
- Start the smelt. The base duration shown for one Glass is 60 seconds. With the listed floor bonus, the displayed duration is 48 seconds.
- Collect the finished Glass. Keep the output in storage until you know how much is needed for bottles, potions or construction.
The floor bonus is important when planning a large run. It changes both the material requirement and the processing time shown in the recipe entry, so verify that the bonus is actually active in the Furnace you are using instead of assuming every station has it.

Choosing a farming route
There is no single best route for every castle. Compare each target on three practical axes:
- Distance and danger: A nearby source can be more efficient than a richer location if travel or combat repeatedly interrupts the run.
- Raw Quartz versus finished Glass: Quartz is flexible because it can be smelted into Glass, while found Glass skips Furnace time. A location that yields both can serve an urgent bottle requirement.
- Immediate demand: If you need potions now, prioritize any reliable source of Glass or Empty Glass Bottles. If you are expanding the castle, gather enough Quartz for a sustained Furnace queue before spending the output on decoration.
Bring storage space for both forms of material. Quartz and Glass are not interchangeable during a trip: Quartz still requires Furnace processing, while found Glass can be used immediately in recipes that accept it.

Empty Glass Bottles: the main reason to stockpile Glass
Empty Glass Bottles are one of the most important downstream uses for Glass because they feed potion production. The dedicated bottle entry lists four Glass for one bottle, with three Glass shown when its listed bonus applies. A separate item-recipe table presents a batch of five bottles for eight Glass, or six Glass with the listed reduction. Those are different recipe presentations, so read the station or version label rather than combining the numbers into one universal cost.

Empty Glass Bottles are specifically used for Blood Potions and Blood Merlots. Since those consumables can be a higher priority than cosmetic construction, reserve Glass for bottles before committing the remainder to windows, mirrors or decorative glassware.

Buying bottles instead of crafting them
The Empty Glass Bottle entry lists an alternative source: the Rural Goods Merchant sells stacks of five bottles for 10 Silver Coins. This can save Furnace time when you have Silver Coins but lack Quartz or need bottles immediately. It is a purchase option, not a replacement for Glass production when you are building structures that require Glass itself.
Construction and decoration uses

The documented range runs from one Glass for some lamps or tableware to 24 Glass for the listed Castle Heart level 3 recipe. Do not assume every window or furnishing has the same cost; open the individual build recipe before allocating your stockpile.
How to prioritize a building project
- Check survival and progression structures first. Castle Heart level 3, blood-processing equipment and blood storage can affect the rest of your base, so identify those requirements before spending Glass on appearance.
- Set aside bottle reserves. Count the Empty Glass Bottles needed for your next Blood Potion or Blood Merlot batch and protect that amount from construction spending.
- Price the build in the build menu. Clear and colored windows, mirrors, dressing tables, folding screens, lamps and glassware have separate recipes.
- Use the remaining Glass for decoration. This keeps a cosmetic project from delaying potion production or a Castle Heart upgrade.
Further refinement and progression chains
Glass sits in a broader crystal-material progression rather than serving only as a decorative block. A second Glass database lists Empty Glass Bottle, Scourgestone and Empty Crystal Flask among downstream entries, while the wider item database groups Glass with Quartz and other crystal materials. The practical implication is that a Quartz trip can support several later crafting paths, even when your immediate goal is only one bottle or one window.

When estimating a trip, start with the output you need and work backward. For example, a target of 10 Glass requires 200 Quartz at the base recipe, or 150 Quartz when the listed floor bonus applies. If you need 20 Glass, double those figures to 400 or 300 Quartz. These totals describe recipe input only; they do not account for Quartz already in storage or Glass looted directly.

The Glass recipe is missing
Confirm that Grethel the Glassblower has been defeated and that the character is on the intended progression path. If the unlock is complete but the recipe remains absent, inspect the Furnace and Advanced Furnace separately; the listing says the recipe is available in an Advanced Furnace where that recipe is enabled. Server progression settings or a patch change can also alter when the recipe appears.
The Furnace asks for more Quartz than expected
Compare the station’s displayed values with the two documented presentations: 20 Quartz and 60 seconds at the base rate, or 15 Quartz and 48 seconds with the listed floor bonus. If the reduced values are not shown, the bonus is not active for that station or setup. Use the values on screen when calculating the run.
You have Quartz but no finished Glass before a deadline
Look for already-refined Glass at the documented Dunley locations, especially Dunley Monastery, where Glass is specifically listed as lootable. Alternatively, check the Rural Goods Merchant for five Empty Glass Bottles at 10 Silver Coins if bottles, rather than raw Glass, are the urgent requirement.
You ran out of Glass after decorating
Recalculate the next bottle and progression requirements before starting another build. Farm Quartz or loot Glass, then reserve the output in the order of immediate potion needs, Castle progression, and construction. Cosmetic items can wait; a missing bottle can block the next consumable batch.
Patch and server-version cautions
Recipe quantities, unlock conditions, processing bonuses and location tables are database values that may change as V Rising is patched. Server settings can also affect progression. The figures in this guide should therefore be read as the documented values for the referenced item entries, not as a guarantee that every future patch or private server uses identical numbers.
Before a major farming run, verify four things in-game: the V Blood target that unlocks Glass, the Furnace station showing the recipe, the Quartz-to-Glass ratio, and the locations currently populated on your server. This quick check prevents an outdated route or recipe assumption from wasting a trip.
