First, open the same page in a normal browser and let it finish loading. If the font is wrong there too, investigate the site’s CSS and font requests. If the page looks right in the browser but wrong in URL2PNG, check whether the capture happened before fonts finished loading, or whether URL2PNG returned a cached image.
Separate a page font problem from a screenshot timing problem
Web fonts load asynchronously. While a font is on its way, browsers can show fallback text or briefly hide text; the exact behavior depends on the page’s CSS and browser. Google Fonts explains that font delivery and browser behavior affect what appears during loading (Google Fonts technical considerations); WebKit also describes delayed font loading and the CSS Font Loading API (Improved Font Loading).

- Open the target URL directly in a normal browser at roughly the same viewport as the screenshot. Wait for the page to settle and check the intended font family, weight, and glyphs.
- Compare that result with the URL2PNG image. Keep the URL, viewport, user agent, and approximate page state as similar as possible.
- If both renders show the problem, investigate the site’s font declarations and font delivery. If only URL2PNG does, focus on capture readiness, caching, or differences in the rendering environment.
This comparison does not establish the cause for every URL2PNG capture; the page and its network requests need to be checked in the affected case.

When the normal browser render is also wrong, inspect the page rather than adding a screenshot delay. In the browser’s developer tools, review the font-related CSS and the Network panel while reloading the page.

- Confirm the relevant
@font-facerule points to the intended resource and declares the expected family and weight. - Check whether the font request completes successfully and returns a usable resource. A longer wait cannot repair an invalid URL or failed font request.
- Review any
unicode-rangedeclaration if only certain characters or glyphs are missing. - Check that the page’s font-family stack has an acceptable fallback while the custom font loads.
For pages you control, font-display determines how text is presented while a web font loads. Chrome’s documentation describes its effect on text visibility and fallback behavior (Ensure text remains visible during webfont load). For critical fonts, preload may help the browser discover the resource sooner, but it does not fix an inaccessible or incorrectly configured font. See web.dev’s web-font loading guidance.
Make URL2PNG wait for a meaningful ready state
URL2PNG documents a fixed delay after document readiness and a say_cheese option that waits for a specified DOM element. See the URL2PNG Quickstart Guide for the documented parameters and syntax.

Prefer a readiness signal when you control the page
Use say_cheese when the page can expose an element only after the font-dependent content is genuinely ready. The signal should reflect the condition you need—for example, the point at which the page’s own code knows that required content has rendered with its chosen font. A generic element that appears before fonts load is not a reliable signal.

Test a suitable delay after confirming the font request succeeds in a browser. Choose a value based on observed loading behavior, then compare captures. An arbitrary longer delay is less dependable than a page-specific readiness marker and cannot make an invalid or inaccessible font resource work.

Rule out a cached screenshot
A previously generated image can make a change appear ineffective. URL2PNG documents unique for forcing a fresh screenshot and ttl for setting screenshot cache lifetime. Check the Quickstart documentation for the exact request syntax, then request a fresh image after changing one variable. Compare the returned capture rather than assuming a repeated URL necessarily reflects current page state.
Change one variable at a time
For a useful diagnosis, keep a short record of the target URL, viewport, user agent, whether the font request succeeded, the readiness signal or delay, and cache state. First establish the normal-browser result; then adjust only URL2PNG readiness or freshness settings and compare. This helps distinguish an early capture from a page-level font issue or a rendering-environment difference.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will adding a delay fix a missing web font?
Only if the font is valid and eventually loads, and the capture was taken too early. A delay cannot repair a failed or invalid font request.
Why does only one weight or some characters look wrong?
Check the page’s font-family and weight declarations, font resource responses, and any unicode-range rules. Those can affect particular weights or glyphs even when other text looks correct.
