Uptime Kuma has no published numeric minimum for CPU cores, RAM, or disk capacity. The official installation documentation specifies a supported Linux or Windows host, the required runtime (Docker or the non-Docker stack), and persistent storage for /app/data. A 1 GB RAM figure published by UptimeKuma.co in 2025 is a non-official starting heuristic, not a vendor guarantee.
Antihost offers Linux VPS plans with full root access, unlimited traffic on a 1 Gbps port and a 14-day free trial.
For a VPS, storage behavior is at least as important as raw capacity: Uptime Kuma stores its SQLite database in /app/data, which must be on storage supporting POSIX file locking. The official wiki warns that missing lock support can corrupt SQLite and specifically cautions against NFS. Choose CPU, memory, and disk according to monitor count, polling interval, history retention, and notification activity rather than an invented monitor limit.

What the official requirements actually say
The official Uptime Kuma installation material describes platforms and software prerequisites, but it does not publish a minimum CPU frequency, core count, RAM quantity, or disk-size number. That distinction matters when comparing inexpensive VPS plans: a provider cannot be checked against an official “two cores and 2 GB” baseline because no such baseline is documented.
The documented baseline is operational:
- A supported Linux distribution or supported Windows installation.
- Either the Docker deployment or the non-Docker runtime.
- Persistent local storage mounted at
/app/data. - Filesystem support for POSIX file locks so SQLite can coordinate database access safely.
The official wiki states, “Filesystem support for POSIX file locks is required to avoid SQLite database corruption.” It also cautions against NFS-backed data directories. This is a functional requirement, not an optimization: a VPS with ample CPU and RAM can still lose data if its mounted storage does not provide reliable locking.

How much RAM does Uptime Kuma need?
The only published number is non-official
UptimeKuma.co’s 2025 guide labels 1 GB of RAM as “Minimum RAM” and immediately notes that requirements vary with the number of monitoring probes. That page is a third-party sizing suggestion, not an official Uptime Kuma requirement. Treat 1 GB as a sensible starting point for a small, lightly loaded installation, not as a promise that every configuration will fit.
What increases memory pressure
Memory demand changes with the work the instance performs. More monitors create more scheduled jobs and more state to keep available. Shorter polling intervals cause those jobs to overlap more often, while long history retention makes the SQLite database larger and can increase maintenance work. Notification activity, especially during an outage or recovery storm, adds additional processing and network requests. Running Uptime Kuma alongside a web server, control panel, database, metrics stack, or container runtime on the same VPS also reduces the memory available to it.
Recommended Free Tools
A 1 GB VPS can therefore be practical for a modest personal or small-site setup when the operating system has headroom and no memory-heavy neighbors. It becomes a risky choice when you expect many checks, very frequent intervals, extensive retention, or several other services. Because no official monitor-count benchmark exists, do not advertise a guaranteed number of monitors for any RAM size.
How many CPU cores does Uptime Kuma need?
No official CPU floor is published
Uptime Kuma’s official requirements do not specify a minimum core count, clock speed, or CPU model. Monitoring is usually a collection of scheduled network requests, database writes, and notification tasks rather than a continuously CPU-bound workload, but the actual load depends on how those tasks are configured and on what else shares the VPS.

CPU factors to compare on a VPS
- Single-core performance: SQLite maintenance and parts of the Node.js process can benefit more from responsive individual cores than from a large virtual-core count.
- Burst policy: A plan that advertises burstable CPU may be fine at idle but slow during simultaneous checks, alert delivery, or database cleanup if the host enforces a low sustained limit.
- Contention: “Shared” virtual CPUs can vary with neighboring workloads. Consistent latency is often more useful than a headline core number for an availability monitor.
- Background services: Backups, log rotation, container image updates, and other applications can compete with scheduled probes.
For that reason, select a small Linux VPS with predictable CPU scheduling rather than chasing an arbitrary core minimum. If checks begin missing their schedule while memory remains available, inspect host CPU steal time and the VPS provider’s throttling policy before simply adding monitors.
How much disk space does Uptime Kuma use?
Capacity is not stated; persistence is
No official disk-capacity minimum is published. The important requirement is a persistent data location mounted at /app/data. Uptime Kuma’s SQLite database, configuration, monitor state, and related files live there, so an ephemeral container filesystem or a volume that disappears on restart is unsuitable.
Disk consumption depends on retention settings, monitor history, incident frequency, notification records, logs, and the rest of the operating system. A clean installation may occupy little space, but an instance that retains detailed history for many monitors can grow steadily. Leave free capacity for database maintenance, package updates, and temporary files instead of allocating exactly the initial footprint.
Local SSD versus network storage
Local SSD or provider block storage with documented POSIX semantics is generally the safer choice for the data directory. Network filesystems can introduce latency, stale locks, or unsupported locking behavior. The official documentation’s NFS warning is specifically about protecting SQLite from corruption; it is not merely a performance recommendation. If a provider maps VPS storage through NFS, ask whether POSIX file locking is fully supported before placing /app/data there.

Planning resources around workload
The following framework separates documented facts from planning decisions. It does not assign a guaranteed monitor count because Uptime Kuma publishes no such benchmark.
| Workload characteristic | Resource effect | VPS planning response |
|---|---|---|
| Few monitors, moderate polling intervals, short history | Lower scheduling, database, and notification activity | A small Linux VPS can be a reasonable starting point; 1 GB RAM is a third-party heuristic only. |
| More monitors or shorter intervals | More concurrent network requests, jobs, and SQLite writes | Prefer additional memory headroom and predictable CPU; monitor load after enabling the checks. |
| Long retention or frequent incidents | Faster database and disk growth; more maintenance I/O | Use persistent SSD storage with spare capacity and a backup plan. |
| Heavy notification activity | More outbound requests and event processing during outages | Check CPU, memory, and network behavior during an alert storm, not only when everything is up. |
| Uptime Kuma sharing a VPS with other applications | Less predictable CPU, RAM, and disk availability | Reserve headroom or isolate monitoring on its own small instance. |
Measure the running service rather than relying on a static promise. Watch memory utilization, swap activity, CPU steal time, disk latency, filesystem fullness, and whether scheduled checks execute on time. A VPS that is comfortable at normal load but swaps during an outage is undersized for its actual purpose.
Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minutePC Slower Than It Used to Be?
A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 11Can Uptime Kuma run on a 1 GB VPS?
Yes, it can be a reasonable starting configuration for a lightly loaded deployment, but “1 GB” is not an official requirement and does not define a safe monitor limit. Keep the operating system and any companion services in the calculation. A minimal Linux image with Uptime Kuma alone has a better chance of maintaining headroom than a 1 GB machine running a control panel, reverse proxy, database, and several containers.
After installation, create the monitors you actually need and observe peak behavior. If the host starts swapping, the process is repeatedly killed by the operating system, notifications lag, or checks miss their scheduled times, move to a larger plan or reduce workload. Reducing retention and avoiding unnecessarily short intervals can lower pressure, but those changes may reduce the history and detection cadence you need.

Docker deployment requirements and exact paths
What the official Docker example does
The official examples run Uptime Kuma in a container, publish host port 3001 to container port 3001, and mount a persistent volume at /app/data. The older documentation uses the image tag louislam/uptime-kuma:1; the v2 revision uses louislam/uptime-kuma:2. Match the tag to the major-version documentation you are following instead of assuming that a v1 command describes v2.

Basic Docker command
docker run -d
--restart=always
-p 3001:3001
-v uptime-kuma:/app/data
--name uptime-kuma
louislam/uptime-kuma:2
This maps port 3001 and stores application data in the named volume. If you use a host directory instead, ensure the directory is persistent and supports POSIX file locking. Once the container starts, the official documentation says, “Uptime Kuma is now running on http://localhost:3001.” Replace localhost with the VPS address or your reverse-proxy hostname when connecting remotely, and restrict exposure with firewall rules or a proxy as appropriate.
Compose considerations
Docker Compose is also documented. The same two details remain non-negotiable in a Compose file: publish the intended port and persist /app/data on suitable storage. Back up the volume before changing image major versions, and verify that the container can read and write the mounted directory after every migration.
Non-Docker platform and runtime requirements
Uptime Kuma v2
The v2 non-Docker documentation lists major Linux distributions and supports Windows 10 x64 or Windows Server 2012 R2 x64 and newer. It lists Node.js >=20.4, Git, and pm2 as prerequisites. Confirm the operating system architecture and install those dependencies before launching the application.
Best Value
Older v1 documentation
Older v1 instructions list Node.js 14, 16, 18, or 20.4 and npm >=9. These are version-specific instructions; do not mix a v1 runtime recipe with a v2 installation without checking the corresponding documentation. Pinning a compatible major version and recording it in your deployment notes makes upgrades and rollbacks easier.

- RAM: Treat 1 GB as a non-official starting heuristic only, then add headroom for the operating system and other services.
- CPU: Compare single-core performance, sustained limits, and CPU-steal behavior instead of relying only on virtual-core count.
- Storage: Use persistent local SSD or storage with confirmed POSIX file-lock support; avoid an NFS data directory.
- Capacity: Leave room for history growth, logs, updates, backups, and temporary database work.
- Backups: Check whether snapshots or backups are available and whether they can restore the directory containing
/app/data. - Operating system: Verify that the selected Linux distribution or Windows edition matches the Uptime Kuma major-version documentation.
- Networking: Ensure outbound connections for probes and notifications, inbound access for the web interface, and firewall controls for the published port.
- Reliability: Favor stable network and disk latency; an uptime monitor is impaired by the same host-level outages it is meant to report.
Troubleshooting undersized or unsuitable VPS deployments
The process is killed or the host swaps
Check memory and swap usage during normal polling and during an alert burst. Stop unrelated services, reduce unnecessary retention or polling frequency, and move to a plan with more RAM if pressure persists. Do not treat swap as a substitute for adequate memory for a monitoring service that must remain responsive during incidents.
Checks run late or time out
Inspect CPU steal time, sustained CPU limits, network latency, and the number of jobs scheduled at the same interval. Staggering checks or using a less aggressive interval can reduce bursts, but persistent delay indicates that the VPS or network path needs more capacity or better consistency.
SQLite errors or apparent database corruption
Verify that /app/data is persistent, writable by the container or process, and hosted on a filesystem with POSIX file-lock support. Move the directory off NFS or another storage layer with uncertain locking semantics, then restore from a known-good backup before deleting damaged files.
The container loses settings after a restart
Confirm that the volume or host-directory mount targets exactly /app/data. Inspect the container configuration and restart it deliberately; data stored only in the container’s writable layer can disappear when the container is replaced.
