AoA+ targets Minecraft Java Edition 1.16.5, requires Forge, and publishes 4 GB as the minimum memory allocation with 6–8 GB recommended. On Windows, the documented launch path is to extract the server-pack ZIP into its own folder and run start.bat. Every player must use the same Minecraft version, Forge version, and AoA+ release as the server.

What you need before downloading anything
Advent of Ascension Plus is an exploration-focused Forge modpack for Minecraft 1.16.5. A working server is not built from an ordinary client installation: start with the dedicated server pack published for AoA+. The server pack contains the server-side files and launch script intended for hosting.

| Requirement | What to use | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Game edition | Minecraft Java Edition | The pack and Forge server environment are documented for Java Edition. |
| Minecraft version | 1.16.5 | The server and every client must target this version. |
| Mod loader | Forge compatible with the selected AoA+ release | A Forge mismatch can prevent clients from joining or stop the server from loading correctly. |
| Pack files | The AoA+ dedicated server pack, not only the client pack | The server-pack archive supplies the files and Windows launcher used in the documented setup. |
| Memory | 4 GB minimum; 6–8 GB recommended | The project’s published guidance covers the Java process; reserve additional memory for Windows or other services. |
| Java | Java 8 is the project’s documented Prism Launcher troubleshooting choice | Using the Java version recommended by the project avoids a known class of launcher connection or skin problems. |
You also need a computer or hosting environment that can remain available while people play. The project documentation establishes the software versions and memory guidance, but it does not specify a universal operating-system command, port-forwarding recipe, or hosting provider. Those parts depend on your operating system, network, and host.
Pick one AoA+ release and keep both sides on it
CurseForge lists AoA+ client releases and dedicated server-pack releases separately. The file index includes releases such as V64 and V63, along with separate 1.16 server-pack files. These labels are examples of available releases, not interchangeable versions. Select one exact release and download its matching server pack.
#1 Best Overall
- DELUXE COLLECTION — Includes Minecraft: Java & Bedrock Edition, three Bedrock add-ons, three exclusive Character Creator items, and 700 Minecoins.
- CREATE YOUR WORLD — Build whatever you imagine in an infinite world that’s unique in every playthrough.
- EXPLORE AND CRAFT — Discover biomes, resources, and mobs, then craft your way through a sandbox world filled with surprises.

- PLAY TOGETHER — Play cross-platform with friends in Bedrock Edition on console, mobile, and PC, or join community servers in Java Edition on PC, Mac, and Linux. Online console multiplayer requires a platform-specific subscription (sold separately).
How to choose the files
- Open the Advent of Ascension Plus project’s CurseForge file list.
- Identify the client release you want players to use, such as the specific V64 or V63 entry available to you.
- Find the dedicated server-pack file for that same release and for Minecraft 1.16.5.
- Download the server-pack ZIP separately from the client installation package.
- Record the release label and Forge version in a note. Give that information to every player before they install the client.
Do not pair a server pack from one release with a client from another. The dedicated-server listing explicitly requires the separately published server file to match the exact pack release. A mismatch can appear as missing mods, registry errors, or a client that is rejected during login.
Prepare a dedicated server folder
Use a new folder reserved for this server rather than extracting the archive into your Downloads directory or into a client instance. A dedicated folder keeps generated files, configuration, logs, and future backups together and makes it clear which release is running.

Windows preparation
- Create a folder with a clear name, for example one that includes the AoA+ release label and Minecraft version.
- Move the downloaded server-pack ZIP into that folder.
- Extract the ZIP directly into the folder. Avoid adding an unnecessary second layer of folders if your extraction program offers a choice.
- Confirm that the supplied
start.batis in the extracted server location.
HazardEST’s published server-pack instruction is: Extract the .zip file to a folder. Run "start.bat" to launch your server.
That is the documented Windows launch method; do not substitute the client launcher for the server script.

Java choice for Prism users
The AoA+ project tells Prism Launcher users to download Adoptium Java 8 if they encounter connection or skin problems. Treat Java 8 as the project’s documented compatibility choice for that troubleshooting case. If you use a different launcher or operating system, follow that environment’s Java-selection process while keeping the server and clients on a compatible Java installation.
Launch the server for the first time
- Open the extracted server folder.
- Run
start.baton Windows. - Watch the console as Forge creates or completes the server files.
- When the first launch presents the Minecraft EULA prompt, read the license and complete the acceptance step required by the server files.
- Allow the initial generation process to finish. Do not close the window by force while files are being created.
- Stop the server cleanly from its console before changing configuration or moving files.
The first run is expected to do more than simply open a world: Forge must generate the server environment and its supporting files. The exact filenames and console wording can vary with the pack release, so use the messages in your downloaded server pack as the authority. If the server stops at the EULA stage, complete that prompt and start it again rather than repeatedly launching a second copy.
Allocate the right amount of memory
AoA+ publishes 4 GB as the minimum and 6–8 GB as the recommended range. These figures describe memory assigned to the server process, not the total memory in the computer. Windows, Java, background applications, and any other game or service need memory outside that allocation.

| Allocation | When it fits | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|
| 4 GB | The project’s minimum starting point | Leave additional RAM for the operating system and other software; a machine with only 4 GB total cannot safely dedicate all of it to Minecraft. |
| 6 GB | Lower end of the published recommendation | Use when the computer can reserve this amount while remaining responsive. |
| 8 GB | Upper end of the published recommendation | Still reserve memory for the operating system and any other services. |
Use the launch settings supplied by the server pack to control the Java memory allocation. Do not assume that installing more physical RAM automatically gives the server more memory: the Java process must be configured to use it, and the host must have enough left for the rest of the system. If the server is unstable at the minimum, first verify that the machine is not starved of memory and that you selected the correct pack release before changing other settings.
Install the matching client on every player’s computer
A dedicated server does not make clients compatible automatically. Each player should install the same AoA+ client release, the same Minecraft 1.16.5 version, and the same Forge version selected for the server.
Client matching checklist
- Minecraft is Java Edition 1.16.5.
- The AoA+ release label exactly matches the server pack’s release label.
- Forge matches the release expected by that AoA+ build.
- The player is launching the modded profile or instance rather than an unmodified Minecraft profile.
- If Prism Launcher reports connection or skin trouble, Java 8 has been installed and selected as recommended by the AoA+ project.
Have players compare labels before they attempt to connect. “Almost the same” is not enough for a modded server: a newer or older pack can contain a different mod set or registry, even when both entries mention Minecraft 1.16.5.

- Skins! We have biome settlers, city folk, town folk, and more!
- The Nether and all its inhabitants. Fight Ghasts and make friends with Pigmen

- Revamped touch controls, controller support, and a controller mapping screen
- Enhanced Weather effects! Accumulating snow and more
Verify a clean startup before inviting players
After the EULA step, start the server again and let Forge finish loading. Keep the console visible during this test. A successful basic test is that the server reaches its ready state without immediately stopping and that the generated server files remain in the dedicated folder.
Use a controlled first test
- Start the server with the selected memory allocation.
- Wait for the normal Forge loading sequence to complete.
- Connect with one client that has been checked against the release, Minecraft version, and Forge version.
- If the test fails, stop the server cleanly and resolve the version or Java issue before changing several variables at once.
- Once the test succeeds, stop the server cleanly again before making a backup or editing configuration.
This approach separates installation problems from networking problems. If the server cannot complete its own startup, changing router or host settings will not fix it. Conversely, if the server starts normally but intended players cannot reach it, the remaining issue is likely in the operating system, host, or network path rather than in the AoA+ files; the project documentation does not define a universal networking solution.
Common problems and precise fixes
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
start.bat is missing |
The ZIP was not extracted correctly or you downloaded a client archive. | Recheck the CurseForge file entry and download the dedicated server pack for the exact release. Extract it into a new folder and look for the supplied script. |
| The script opens and closes immediately | Java is unavailable, incompatible, or the server files were not extracted as expected. | Run the script from the extracted server folder so the console output remains visible, confirm the archive contents, and use the project’s Java 8 guidance when troubleshooting Prism-related compatibility. |
| The first launch stops at an EULA message | The required EULA acceptance has not been completed. | Complete the EULA step in the generated server files, then launch the server again. |
| Client reports missing mods | The client and server use different AoA+ releases, Forge versions, or Minecraft versions. | Compare the exact release labels and use the matching dedicated server pack and client instance. |
| Client reports a registry mismatch | The mod set differs between the two sides, commonly because the server pack and client pack are from different releases. | Stop the server, identify the intended release, reinstall or replace the mismatched side, and have every player use that same release. |
| Prism reports connection or skin problems | The project identifies Java selection as a possible cause. | Install and select Adoptium Java 8 as recommended in the AoA+ project guidance, then retry the client. |
| The machine becomes unresponsive while the server runs | Too much memory may have been assigned to Java, or the computer lacks enough total RAM for the published allocation and the operating system. | Keep at least the 4 GB minimum for the server only when the machine can spare it; otherwise use a system capable of the 6–8 GB recommendation while leaving headroom for the operating system. |
| The server starts locally but remote players cannot join | Network exposure, firewall, router, or hosting configuration is incomplete. | Check the settings for your particular operating system, network, or hosting service. AoA+ documentation does not specify one universal port or forwarding procedure. |
Updating AoA+ without creating a mismatch
Updating is a coordinated change, not a server-only download. When you move from one release to another, update the dedicated server pack and every client to the same new release. For example, do not leave the server on a V63 server pack while players install V64, and do not assume that two entries marked 1.16 are interchangeable.
Best Value
- Play and share with friends on console, mobile and Windows 10
- discover community creations in the new in-game store
- access new mini games and game modes through servers
- Choose the target AoA+ release from the project’s file list.
- Confirm that a dedicated server-pack file exists for that release.
- Tell players which client release and Forge version they must install.
- Stop the current server cleanly.
- Keep a copy of the existing server folder before replacing or migrating files.
- Install the matching server pack in a new, clearly named folder and perform the first-launch EULA and generation steps there.
- Test with one matching client before inviting the rest of the players.
Using a new folder for an upgrade makes it easier to identify which files belong to which release and to return to the previous installation if the new one does not start. Never overwrite a working installation before you have preserved it.
Choosing where to run the server
You can run the server on a personal Windows computer or on a separate hosting machine. The correct choice depends on who needs access and how much administrative control you want. The documented AoA+ requirements let you compare candidates on software and resources, but networking behavior remains host-specific.
| Decision point | Questions to answer |
|---|---|
| Minecraft and Forge | Can the machine run Minecraft Java Edition 1.16.5 with the Forge version required by the selected AoA+ release? |
| Exact pack release | Can you download and retain the matching dedicated server pack for the client release your group selected? |
| Java compatibility | Can the environment use the Java version required by the pack, with Java 8 available for the Prism troubleshooting path documented by the project? |
| Memory | Can it dedicate at least 4 GB to the server, preferably 6–8 GB, while leaving additional memory for the operating system and other services? |
| Operating-system support | Does the host support the server-pack files and provide an appropriate way to run the supplied launcher or an equivalent documented method? |
| Player access | Can the host expose the running server to the intended players, and can you manage its firewall or network settings? |
No retail hardware product is required by this workflow. The essential items are the Minecraft license and Java Edition installation, a compatible Forge environment, the downloadable AoA+ server pack, and sufficient memory on the machine or host.
Operational habits that prevent avoidable failures
- Keep the server pack ZIP and the release label with your server records so you can identify the installation later.
- Do not edit files while the server is running; stop it cleanly first.
- Make a backup before changing releases or replacing generated files.
- Give players the exact release and Forge information rather than only saying “AoA+ 1.16.”
- Keep one tested client available for troubleshooting so you can distinguish a server problem from an individual player’s installation problem.
- When diagnosing a failure, change one variable at a time: release, Forge version, Java selection, or memory allocation.
With the exact 1.16.5 Forge release selected, the matching dedicated server pack extracted, the EULA completed, and 4 GB minimum (preferably 6–8 GB) reserved with system headroom, the basic AoA+ server installation is complete. Players can join only after their client release, Forge version, and Minecraft version match the server exactly.
