Choose Blue Prince first if you want one connected, single-player mystery to unravel. Choose UFO 50 first if you want a varied collection of 50 complete games, with local multiplayer available in some formats. Neither is a universal winner: the better starting point depends on whether you want a sustained puzzle or a library to explore.
How the games differ
UFO 50 is a library of distinct games
UFO 50 presents 50 games as the catalogue of an imagined 1980s studio. The collection spans platformers, shoot-’em-ups, puzzle games, roguelites, and RPGs. These are described as full experiences rather than microgames, and the complete library is available from the start. Part of the appeal is browsing the catalogue and finding which ideas hold your attention.

Its fictional-studio framing also reflects a collaborative development project, as discussed by Game Developer’s interview with Derek Yu.
Blue Prince is one unfolding manor mystery
Blue Prince is a single-player, first-person puzzle adventure set in Mount Holly, a manor whose rooms shift. You choose what lies beyond each door, plan a route, collect tools and clues, and search for the rumored Room 46. The floor plan resets each day, while some permanent upgrades carry forward.
#1 Best Overall
As Dogubomb architect Tonda Ros put it, “It has elements of mystery, strategy and discovery, merging the world of a first-person puzzle adventure with the drafting mechanics of a tabletop card game.” Ros’s PlayStation Blog article explains that blend.
Which one fits what you want?
| If you want… | Start with… | Why |
|---|---|---|
| One connected mystery and clues that build on each other | Blue Prince | The shifting manor and search for Room 46 organize the experience around a central puzzle. |
| Many mechanics and genres in one collection | UFO 50 | Its 50 games span several genres, from puzzle games and platformers to RPGs. |
| A single-player game | Blue Prince | Xbox lists it as single-player. |
| Local multiplayer as an option | UFO 50 | Steam lists shared/split-screen multiplayer features, and Nintendo lists one to three local players for the Switch edition. |
| An easy way to sample several ideas | UFO 50 | The full game library is open from the start, so you can choose what to try. |
| Taking notes and adapting to randomized rooms and items | Blue Prince, if that appeals to you | A TechRadar reviewer describes note-taking and randomized rooms and items as central to its appeal, but also as possible friction. |
Blue Prince may suit you less if you prefer explicit guidance: the same TechRadar review says it offers little hand-holding and players may need to track clues themselves. That is one reviewer’s assessment, not a universal verdict. Read the TechRadar review.

Fangamer lists standard and deluxe physical editions of UFO 50 for Nintendo Switch. The deluxe listing describes a companion guide of more than 100 pages, two prints, sticker sheets, and other items; it showed out of stock when checked, so current availability is not established. Check Fangamer’s UFO 50 listing.
Nintendo’s UFO 50 listing is for a digital edition. An iam8bit storefront search result indicated a physical Blue Prince Switch 2 edition and showroom bundle, but the product details and current stock were not available to verify. See iam8bit’s Blue Prince search results.
Verdict: pick by the kind of play you want
Start with Blue Prince for a singular mystery built around room drafting, clues, and repeat visits to a changing manor. Start with UFO 50 for a broad sampler of self-contained game ideas and the option of local play with others. The first is a focused puzzle adventure; the second is a collection to browse.
