Twitch Spendable Balance lets eligible monetized creators use certain creator earnings for eligible Twitch purchases, including Bits and gift subscriptions. To use it, finish creator onboarding and the tax interview, enroll in the Creator Dashboard’s payout settings, then select the balance at checkout. Twitch currently requires a stored payment method even when the balance covers the full cost.
What Twitch Spendable Balance is—and what it is not
Spendable Balance is an optional balance tied to a creator’s monetization earnings. It is not a general-purpose bank balance, and it is separate from Twitch gift card balance. Twitch says gift subscriptions and Bits are eligible uses; eligibility for other purchase types depends on the payment option shown for that purchase.

Creators who enroll can use eligible funds on Twitch purchases rather than receiving those funds as a payout. The option is reversible: Twitch says enrollment is optional, and creators can opt out in payout settings. After opting out, the balance cannot be used at checkout unless they enroll again. Twitch’s Spendable Balance help page has the current eligibility chart and checkout details.

Twitch describes the feature as globally available to qualifying monetized streamers. Enrollment requires completed creator onboarding, acceptance of the Monetized Streamer Agreement, accurate onboarding details, and a valid tax interview. The setting is in the Creator Dashboard’s payout settings.

Creator status also affects whether earnings can be paid out as cash. Twitch’s monetization overview says streamers who are neither Affiliates nor Partners are not eligible for cash payout, even if their dashboard balance reaches the ordinary payout threshold. They may still use their Creator Dashboard balance for eligible purchases through Spendable Balance. Affiliates and Partners can choose between eligible purchases and payout, subject to the applicable rules. See Twitch’s monetization options overview.
How to enroll and use the balance
- Complete creator onboarding. Provide accurate onboarding information, sign the Monetized Streamer Agreement when prompted, and complete the tax interview.
- Turn on Spendable Balance. In the Creator Dashboard, open payout settings and enroll. Enrollment is optional, and you can opt out there later.
- Choose an eligible purchase. At checkout for Bits or a gift subscription, check whether Spendable Balance is offered as a payment option. Do not assume it applies to every Twitch purchase.
- Keep a payment method on file. Twitch currently requires a stored payment method even when Spendable Balance covers the entire purchase. If the balance does not cover the full amount, add another payment method, such as a credit or debit card, for the remainder.
Twitch treats gift card balance as a separate payment type. Its support page states that Spendable Balance and gift card balance share a $2,000 USD storage limit and a $2,000 USD per-day spending limit. Because payment options can change and can depend on the account or purchase, confirm what checkout offers before placing the order.

When earnings become spendable
For Affiliates and Partners, Twitch says support events contribute to Spendable Balance on the same Net 15 cycle used to calculate earnings payouts. Its example says funds may become available around the middle of the following month, depending on whether the creator elected payout. If automatic payout is selected and the account qualifies, support may instead contribute to an upcoming payout; Twitch says those funds can appear locked in Spendable Balance while the payment is processed.
Spendable Balance or cash payout?
The choice depends on whether your creator status permits payout, when funds become available, whether your payable balance has reached the relevant threshold, any fees for your payout method, and whether you want to spend the money within Twitch.
