A Twitch password reset usually fails for one of four different reasons: the reset message is going to the wrong verified address, the account or username is being misidentified, the reset link or form is failing, or login is still blocked by a separate verification or 2FA check. Use the matching fix below instead of repeatedly requesting new passwords.
Identify the problem first

Use Twitch’s official password-reset process
- Open the Twitch login page and select Trouble Logging In or Forgot password. Labels can vary between the web site, iOS, Android, and later interface versions.
- Enter the email address or phone number associated with the account.
- When Twitch asks for it, enter the actual Twitch username, not merely a display name.
- Request the reset link by email or the verification code by SMS.
- Open the message, create a new unique password, and submit the form.
- Return to the official Twitch site or app and sign in again.
Twitch’s mobile instructions use the same recovery function: log out, choose Trouble Logging In, enter the account email or phone number and username, then choose Send my password reset link. See Twitch’s password-change instructions. The reset email is sent to the verified email address attached to that Twitch account, which may not be the address you currently remember.

If the reset email never arrives
- Wait several minutes before requesting another message. Twitch’s code guidance says some email or SMS deliveries can take up to five minutes; this is not a guaranteed deadline.
- Check spam, junk, Promotions, quarantine, and any custom filtered folders.
- Search the mailbox for
Twitch,[email protected], and[email protected]. - Make sure you are checking the mailbox verified on the correct Twitch account. An address you used for another account may not receive this reset.
- Add
[email protected]and[email protected]to your provider’s safe-sender or allow list. - Check whether the mailbox itself is disabled or over quota. A provider can block a message before it ever reaches Spam.
- Confirm the Twitch username and submit one more request, rather than sending many requests in rapid succession.
Twitch documents the waiting and spam checks in its account-access guide. If no message appears after these checks, use the Support route below.

If the reset link is invalid or the form will not complete
- Request a new reset message and open only the newest email. Multiple requests can leave you opening an older, unusable link.
- Open the link directly from the email instead of copying a truncated URL.
- Try a private or incognito window, another supported browser, or the Twitch website instead of an in-app webview.
- Temporarily disable extensions that rewrite links, scripts, cookies, or privacy controls.
- Clear Twitch site data, then start a fresh reset request.
Twitch’s published help does not specify a universal reset-link expiration period, so do not rely on a particular number of minutes. If a freshly issued link still fails, record the exact error and contact Twitch Support.

If Twitch does not recognize your email, phone, or username
Use the Twitch Account Recovery Tool. Enter your country code and the email address or phone number, then choose I Don’t Know My Username. Twitch can return usernames associated with that contact method. This helps when you remember a display name, have multiple accounts, or are accidentally trying to recover a secondary or older account.
Do not create a new account as your first response. Twitch advises people trying to regain an existing account to attempt recovery before opening another one; a new account will not restore the old subscriptions, history, or settings.

If the password changes but login still fails
A successful password reset does not remove a separate verification barrier. Twitch may still request an email code, SMS code, new-device verification, an authenticator code, or a backup code. It can also deny access when the account is suspended or when recovery details were changed.
- Check both the registered email and phone, verify the username, wait for delivery, and use Resend code where shown.
- For 2FA, enter the current six-digit code from your authenticator app, or use a saved backup code.
- Do not confuse the password-reset email with the separate 2FA login challenge.
- Do not repeatedly request codes; Twitch notes that rate limiting can occur.
- VoIP numbers such as Google Voice and Skype are not supported for Twitch SMS verification.

If you lost the old phone number, Twitch directs users with 2FA to Authy’s phone-change process, even when another authenticator app was used. Twitch describes Authy processing as 24–48 business hours. Authenticator apps and backup codes remain alternatives when available.

If you lost access to the email or phone
You are still signed in
Open Twitch security settings, change the email address or phone number, and verify the new contact method before signing out.
You are signed out but still have a phone
Try phone-based recovery with the correct country code and cellular number. A disabled email cannot receive recovery mail, so reactivate that mailbox with the email provider if possible.

You control neither method
Use an authenticator app or saved backup code if 2FA is enabled. Otherwise submit an ownership request to Twitch Support. Recovery becomes limited when you cannot prove control of any registered method; Support is the official escalation route, not a guarantee of restoration.

If you signed up with Google, Apple, or Amazon
Try the same Google, Apple, or Amazon account used during signup, and complete any separate provider verification. Confirm that you are signed into the correct provider account when several addresses are present. Social-login accounts use the provider’s credentials, so a normal Twitch password reset may not address the problem. Twitch’s account-creation guidance explains that these accounts cannot simply add a password from the ordinary settings page; a password may need to be created through Account Recovery, with Support assistance where required: Twitch account-creation guidance.

If you think the account was hacked
- Do not use reset links from unofficial senders. Navigate directly to Twitch.
- Secure the associated email account first, then change any other service password that reused the Twitch password.
- Contact Twitch Support promptly if the email, phone, username, or other account details changed without your permission.
- After recovery, review unfamiliar third-party access, enable 2FA, and store backup codes securely.
Never send your password, authentication code, or backup codes to a supposed support agent. Twitch’s security guidance recommends unique passwords and 2FA.
Contact Twitch Support
Use the official Twitch Support contact form when delivery checks fail, recovery information is inaccessible, a link repeatedly errors, social login is confusing, 2FA recovery is unavailable, or the account may be hacked, suspended, or otherwise restricted.
Include:
- Your Twitch username and display name.
- The email address or phone number associated with the account.
- The exact error message and whether email, SMS, or 2FA delivery is missing.
- Approximate times of failed attempts.
- The device, browser, and Twitch app involved.
- Whether you still have a logged-in Twitch session.
- Evidence of unauthorized changes, if applicable.
What changes after a password reset?
Twitch says changing the password invalidates the stream key and revokes existing credentials issued to third-party services. You may need to reconnect legitimate services, including Prime or game accounts used for Drops. Once access is secure, enable 2FA and keep backup codes somewhere safe.
