To turn on the built-in touchpad (sometimes called a “mouse pad”) on an ASUS laptop, press the keyboard key marked with a touchpad icon—often F6 or F9—by itself or with Fn, depending on your model. If that does not work, open Windows Touchpad settings and switch Touchpad to On.
Which key turns the touchpad back on?
Look across the function-key row for a keycap with a touchpad icon. ASUS identifies F6 and F9 as common locations, but the shortcut varies by laptop. Press the icon key once. If the function row is set to use its Fn-layer actions, hold Fn while pressing it. Watch for an on-screen notification confirming the touchpad changed state.

Do not assume every ASUS laptop uses Fn+F6 or Fn+F9. The icon on your keyboard and the manual for your exact model are the best guides. ASUS’s keyboard overview gives F6 as an example of a touchpad toggle, while its troubleshooting guidance notes that key assignments differ by model: ASUS touchpad troubleshooting and ASUS keyboard overview.
Turn on the touchpad in Windows
If the keyboard shortcut has no effect, use Windows’ touchpad control instead. ASUS documents this route for Windows 11 and Windows 10.

This is an independent way to check whether Windows has disabled the built-in touchpad. ASUS’s instructions are available in its Touchpad guide.
Check the setting for a connected mouse
If you have a USB or other external mouse connected, Windows may be set to disable the touchpad while that mouse is attached. In Touchpad settings, find Leave touchpad on when a mouse is connected and turn it on if you want to use both devices. ASUS describes this option in its touchpad troubleshooting guidance.

A mouse can help you navigate Windows while the touchpad is unresponsive, but using one does not enable or repair the built-in touchpad.
ASUS laptop touchpad still not working?
If the keyboard shortcut does nothing and the Windows switch is already on, check the software for your exact laptop model before changing drivers. ASUS says a hotkey that does not work may require reinstalling the ASUS System Control Interface. Driver requirements can vary: an ASUS troubleshooting example calls for both that component and a touchpad driver, but it is model-specific. Use the support page for your laptop’s precise model and operating system to identify the appropriate downloads and instructions. See ASUS’s keyboard troubleshooting guidance.

When to check MyASUS or BIOS
MyASUS does not provide the same touchpad controls on every ASUS notebook. The feature depends on model support and compatible versions of ASUS System Control Interface and MyASUS. ASUS also notes that disabling Internal Point Device in BIOS hides the touchpad item in MyASUS; laptops with ScreenPad are excluded from the described MyASUS touchpad function. Treat these as conditional checks rather than steps every ASUS owner needs. Details are in ASUS’s MyASUS Device Settings guidance.
