To stop a Samsung Galaxy from asking for a SIM PIN at startup, open Settings > Connections > SIM manager > More SIM settings > SIM card security, switch off Lock SIM card, and enter the SIM’s current PIN. Menu names vary by Galaxy model and software version; if that route is missing, search Settings for “SIM.”
Remove the SIM PIN lock in Settings
- Open Settings.
- Tap Connections, then SIM manager.
- Tap More SIM settings and open SIM card security.
- Switch off Lock SIM card.
- Enter the existing SIM PIN and confirm.

Older menu paths
Depending on the device and software, SIM lock settings may appear under Biometrics and security > Other security settings > Set up SIM card lock, Security and privacy > Other security settings > Set up SIM card lock, or Security > SIM PIN options. These are examples, not guaranteed paths for every Galaxy. In the SIM lock screen, disable Lock SIM card and enter the current SIM PIN. Samsung’s UK support instructions cover the older route.
What changes when you turn off Lock SIM card?
The SIM PIN is a security code for the SIM card, separate from the PIN or password that unlocks the phone’s screen. With SIM lock disabled, the SIM PIN prompt will no longer appear at startup. You can turn the setting back on later and enter the SIM PIN to restore it.

The trade-off is that the SIM loses its SIM-level protection against being used in another mobile device. Keeping the lock adds a startup step, but helps prevent someone from using the SIM in another handset without its PIN. Choose based on whether startup convenience or that extra protection matters more to you. Samsung explains the purpose of SIM lock in its support article.
Know which code the phone is asking for

Samsung UK notes that a provider-dependent default SIM PIN may be printed on the SIM’s original packaging. Do not assume a universal default: provider and region can differ.

If the SIM PIN is unknown or the SIM is blocked
Do not keep trying guesses. Contact your mobile carrier for the correct PIN or PUK and its recovery instructions. Entering incorrect codes can lead to further lockout, and carrier procedures vary.

Samsung Korea’s guidance says three incorrect SIM PIN entries lead to a PUK prompt; ten incorrect PUK entries require replacing the SIM through the carrier. Those thresholds come from Samsung Korea’s guidance and may not describe every market or carrier’s process: Samsung Korea’s USIM lock instructions. If a PUK screen is already showing, or you are unsure which credential is requested, stop entering codes and ask your carrier.

If the prompt remains after changing the setting
- Check that you disabled Lock SIM card, rather than changing the phone’s screen lock.
- If the prompt says “network unlock,” it is a handset carrier restriction, not the SIM PIN setting. Contact the original provider or retailer.
- If the phone asks for a PUK, the SIM PIN has been blocked; ask the carrier for the PUK and next steps rather than trying more PINs.
- If menu labels do not match, search Settings for “SIM” and check the SIM security or SIM lock options available on your model.
